I'd love to get into doing/trying some customs, but I don't really know where to start...
I've gone through some of the FAQ stuff for what I should get, but I still dunno what would be a good project for me to start on that won't take lots of skill...
Any tips for a starter?
Thanks to anyone who helps!

Paint Brushes-Get a couple different sizes. Get one really thing one for finer details and some bigger ones for filling in the areas.
Super Sculpey-Something for molding new hair, or modding chests and such. If your making customs for your son to play with I wouldn't recommend using this as it would break with rough play and its probly not worth the trouble to heavily mod the figures.
Fabric-If you want to make shirts or anything fabrics great.
Ref Pics-Always have a good clean picture of whoever your doing just so you can map out how you are going to do everything.
Acrylic Paints-Acrylic is the recommended paint. Its cheap and dries relatively quickly. Here in Canada its around a dollar for a 59 mL bottle which lasts a while.
Paint Sealer-This is used to seal the acrylic paint and make it last. It also prevents chipping.
Toothpicks-These also help when painting slim designs.
Other then that, take your time when painting. If you do it really quickly and don't let the paint and the sealer dry before moving the joints it may cause wrinkling in the paint which sucks
i got this from an ebay member

Thanks theanimalbatista95, does anyone else have any tips...those were great either way. Also, is there a good figure to work off of or to work too? The only figures I have which I'd even try and paint on right now are my old BCA's and stuff that isn't close to being new...I don't exactly know what I'd try though

Well I would recommend not starting with someone who has a really intricate design. Doing that can be pretty discouraging and usually will not turn out as well as you would like and will make you want to do it again later. Do someone who has more simple attire. Most importantly choose someone you like. It will make you make sure that you finish it and do your best on it.

I have a really shitty Austin with kicking action, which I don't really care about if I up.... I'm trying to think of good people I could try, I'd like to try a bald guy since hair wouldn't be something easy to start with...I was thinking maybe, Christopher Daniels, paint the facial hair and then add all his other features... Any other suggestions?

Hey man welcome to customizing, i think you should start off with someone SCSA for a first, build yourself up in steps, starting from easy and getting harder as you go along, when i first got into it i didn't know what the hell i was doing but now i can make some pretty hardcore figs (if i do say so myself).
Like i said start off with something easy - hard.
Hope i helped ya dude.

You did thanks R@M, have any suggestions on what figure I could do that might be pretty simple, based on a Steve Austin?

Daniels might work. The BCA figs didn't look like who they were supposed to so most likely it wont look a ton like Daniels either. The important thing then is to make sure to get the details all right. You will have to sand down part of the goatee to make it into the shape of Daniels'. Go for it. Have fun and take your time.
