I’ve been checking the boards for a few months now so I thought it was about time I introduced myself.
I am a UK collector in my early 30’s. Like a lot of people on here, I began collecting as a kid when Hasbro released its first series of figures. I remember a friend coming into school with a catalogue for a company in Swindon (their name escapes me), which contained all of the series 1 figures available to order. This was just before they hit retail in the UK. I ordered Savage and Dibiase, and after what seemed like months (although in reality was probably only a couple of weeks), my first two wrestling figures arrived in the post. Over the next few years I built up quite a collection, and even started my own ‘Federation’, documenting all of the matches, events, world tours (seriously) and title changes in a notebook. This featured all of my Hasbro figures, and also some WCW Galoobs (Ric Flair holding my WWF title on two separate occasions).
Eventually though, I grew out of this, and the last figure I bought was (red card) Bret Hart. Fortunately, I kept most of my Hasbro figures, although I did sell off a few along with all of my Galoobs.
Last summer I decided that I needed a new hobby, and seeing collecting wrestling figures had given me so much joy as a kid, I decided to start again as an adult. I began collecting Mattel figures, mainly elites and exclusives, but with a few basics thrown in. I keep them MOC, partly for the joy of collecting, and partly as an investment (or so I tell myself, as I can’t see me selling them off anytime soon). I will post pictures at some point.
Anyway, as much fun as this is, it still doesn’t fill the Hasbro-shaped hole in my life. Whilst I intend to keep collecting MOC Mattels, last week I decided that it was time to complete my loose Hasbro collection. Over the past few days I have picked up around 15 figures off eBay to add to my current collection, and am constantly on the lookout for more good deals. Although the prices of the rarer figures (Dusty, green cards etc.) and those with accessories can be a little off-putting at times, I still hope to have my collection completed in the next few months.
Any advice regarding where to look, prices to pay etc. would be much appreciated. I am off to pick up a cabinet to display the figures tomorrow, so I will hopefully post some pictures over the weekend.
Cheers
