wasnt there like a week-long saga about clay buchholz and some kind of "foreign substance" last year or the year before?
either way...what is the deal with pine tar? if it affects the game in any way shouldn't it just not be allowed anywhere near a stadium? if not, then i dont see what the big deal is

Well its illegal to doctor the ball regardless of who does it, are you seriously asking what it does? It helps the pitcher grip the ball better
Pitchers do this, even the Red Sox but dont be so obvious about it like Pineda thats just foolish

yeah so its this sticky crap right....guys use it to help their bat grips but wouldnt it just make a baseball stick to your hands? lol
i guess its just one of those stupid things, you're not supposed to use it, but everyone does anyway and managers only care if they are in a bad mood or something.
whatever it is, Pineda is looking more and more like the real deal can't wait for CC to stink up the stadium tomorrow night

Hitters have gone on record saying they really don't care if the pitcher has pine tar on their hands. Ralpho's right in that you shouldn't make it blatantly obvious because it is illegal but nobody says anything because everyone does it. Umps don't even look out for it.
Rogers in the 06 ALDS, Lester in the WORLD SERIES, etc... nobody says anything because it's so common

What I gathered today: The Sox lost to the Yankees. Meh, still early. Josh Hamilton keeps ing things up for himself Pujols looks like he might have a good year The Astros might threaten to climb out of the cellar later this year The Brewers are on fire right now

I tell you what... watching the Brewers a little bit during the opening week has me thinking they could be sneaky good. A lot of talent and solid pitching on that squad. Just wanted to repeat this. I still think the Brewers can be sneaky good, even if it is this early in the season. Great pitching for Pineda tonight though, loved watching his filthy stuff... ESPN just ing hates baseball so something like this happens they have to talk about it more than the actual game. MLB Network FTW.

They are going to take a couple from the Pirates this weekend I think, and then who knows. The division is going to be interesting. Cards and Pirates are good. Brew Crew could be. The Reds do not suck, and the Cubbies are playing well enough that they could get out if the cellar if they win those close games. Fun.

I love my Tigers so far.
BUT FFS, Joe Nathan is a disaster waiting to happen. Tigers always had trouble closing out games as far as I'm concerned.

Do you not remember 2011? Lol I do but what are you getting at? The fact that Valverde had a perfect year in closing.
