You see I hate to use the word fake. I prefer the term scripted over fake for it's no different than a movie; everything is pre planned, however accidents can happen. So fake; no, so printed yes and that's the entertainment aspect If its no different than a fake movie what makes it not fake? Well the fact that it is live. And accidents can happen live on tv, unlike in movies. It's technically not fake. It's scripted because everything is pre planned hence the term of scripted. Fake is a broad term imo

So fake; no, so printed yes and that's the entertainment aspect I get the negative stigma with the word "fake," but the fact is, it is fake. You say it's no different than a movie, and movies are fake. (Unless they're documentaries, that is, and even some of those are debatable.) The problem is people simply see it as authentic vs. fake, but the truth is fact vs. fiction, and nearly every aspect of wrestling is fiction, from the moves to the storylines to the characters. That doesn't mean it doesn't take a level of athleticism that most don't have and never would, regardless of the amount of training they do. If it were simply scripted rather than fake, punches would really connect. They don't, which is why it's fake. It doesn't make it any less entertaining or worthwhile, but it is, in fact, fake. It's fake and I understand it. But it's pre planned with the use of storylines. And as stated above fake is a broad term that is often misused. Fake is defined as something being not genuine. And that's the reason why I say it's technically not fake. It's more pre planned like a movie. Fake shouldn't be associated with wrestling and movies as much as it is, for it is more scripted than overall fake. I understand what you're saying with the scripted and how the punches would connect, but they are trained athletes. If wrestling was that easy of a sport, everyone would do it. And that's where the few select number of athletic people can partake in the WWE

People should just really get off this "WRESTLING'S NOT FAKE IT'S..." train, especially if you're gonna be one of those people that get angry about it for some bizarre reason.
Wrestling is fake, always has been and always will be. Do wrestlers get hurt? Sure, but actors get hurt too and acting is still fake.
It just makes you look like the biggest mark in the world to try and sit and debate that wrestling's not fake, knowing full well that its not real.
The main reason people still try and tell others that wrestling is fake is that there are still people that will sit there and try to tell them it's not.

No need to create an unnecessary post

FOUR! . . . those punches are "genuine"? You can't argue the semantics of this. It's fake AND scripted. If it were just fake they wouldn't plan it, like impromptu acting. Impromptu acting is just fake. Most acting, like wrestling, is fake and scripted. Look at the thesaurus for "fake." "Simulated" "imitation" "feigned" "artificial." It's everything wrestling is.

I can script a punch with my friend to win over a girl's affection. I may pay him so I can really punch him. That was scripted, but not fake. If we script it and I feign punch him, like the WWE does, then it's BOTH scripted and fake.

Usually when people tell me its fake or give me a hard time about it, I pull my pants down and start thrusting my hips and moving towards them.....They tend to leave me alone after that. Words to live by

It's not fake. The matches are just predetermined....like boxing.

In the year 2014, the fact that the "you know it's fake" conversation still occurs is ridiculous. WWE Raw is a tv show.
"Oh you watch Star Trek? You do know its fake right, Like they're not really in space and those aliens- not real aliens either."

"Oh you watch Star Trek? You do know its fake right, Like they're not really in space and those aliens- not real aliens either." Guess I need to redo my thesis. It's not fake. The matches are just predetermined....like boxing. Except boxers actually hit each other, and not every boxing match is predetermined.

Like stated I prefer the term scripted over fake. One does not simply run around saying law & order is fake. They use the word predetermined or scripted. Is it fake? Yes, however I use the word scripted over fake for fake does not justify the scenario imo. Wrestling is 65% scripted, 30% fake, 5% real. So that's why I use scripted over fake

WWE is both scripted and fake. Whether you think one or more pronounced than the other (which can't even be verified or measured since we don't really know how much of the fakeness is imprompu) doesn't discount the FACT that both are true.

Wow, this thread is kinda making me sad.
There is an actual ARGUMENT between wrestling fans about this. And not a good one...

The biggest misconception of wrestling fans by non-fans is that we all think it's real. TBH I don't think most of us even care. Doesn't make it less entertaining to me. Makes it more like an action movie.
I wouldn't run around saying "Liam Neeson is a phony and Taken is fake!" because A.) duh and B.) Liam Neeson is terrifying.
