I wonder if this has been about Latinos or any other race, would this story have gotten this much exposure....

Oh, it is the maximum, but even then 2.5 million dollars won't do anything to his bank account, that's for sure. And he'll also be a hell of lot richer once he sells his team. But this is a huge win for the NBA and Adam Silver. So many sponsors were pulling out and had Silver not taken the actions that he did today, there would've been a player revolution across the league, not just the Clippers. Silver did the right thing and he started off his reign as the commissioner on the right foot. If Sterling fights this, it's going to get ugly and he's only going to look like a bigger bunghole than he already is. If the conversation was taped without his knowledge things could get ugly VERY fast though. If they rule in favor it sets a dangerous precedence on how people obtain things like that and how they can use them within the guidelines of the law. The NBA is a private organization. They can run things how they want. If they want to use private recordings (which his girlfriend said he ok'd because he thought someone was secretly taping him and he wanted his own tapes to set the record straight should anything happen), then they should be allowed. This isn't a government organization that is obtaining information illegally to prosecute someone.

I read that the league had no idea how they were going to handle it because it was in his own home. It sets a precedence because these guys now have to worry about their conversations being recorded. I am not condoning this, but everyone has a right and an expectation or privacy.

You don't have first amendment protections in a business. They can bar you from saying stuff that the government never could. There is a league constitution and under it the commissioner is allowed to ban him and force a sale of the team. If he didn't want to agree to that constitution then he shouldn't have bought the team.

I think they can put the screws to him though. In any event, the team up go for a billion dollars. So, he bought the team for 15 million. That is a hell of a profit. Justice served though, right?

They can and will. If he's banned from attending games and doing business, there is no reason at all for him to continue owning the team. It's a shame the penalty could only be $2.5 million and not a percentage of the sale price.

I am not sure what Justice would be.. maybe for him to have to hand the keys to the castle over to a black dude.. I have no idea honestly.

"I dont want you hanging out with black people" = Life Time ban, $2.5 Million dollar fine (NBA) " you Ni**a, Imma break your neck" = 15yd Penalty, automatic First down (NFL) Yep, sound logical. Now, now. Blacks can be as racist towards each other or whites all they want. Don't you get that? Sheesh.

Yeah...this thread is done. It was a discussion on his punishment that turned into a battle about race. It is 2014. Sure, it was obtained in a questionable manner, but there is absolutely no reason to be a bigot in this day and age. I get freedom of speech, but this is an opinion and thought process that should be nixed from existance. This is why people need preached on race and tolerance so while there will sadly always be racists, homophobics, anti-Semites and sexists, we can lower the number our kids and grandkids have to deal with. The less people like this guy the better. And if we all cannot agree on that, then I have lost what faith I have left in humanity.
