This thread is getting weird because everyones like I like nuts. What, you're telling me that you don't love grabbing a handful of nuts and popping them in your mouth? You go from Mr smarty pants one minute to Señor toilet humor the next.....you enigma you.....

I've heard about how they're healthy for you so I decided to give them a go, they tasted like crap. Usually if people offer me them, I'll just say I'm allergic even though I'm not.

When I was in hardcore/annoying/dogmatic/picky paleo mode, I avoided peanuts because they are legumes and legumes are allegedly evil. However, I have since developed a 'who gives a damn if I eat a spoon-or-three of natty PB once in a while?" mindset. Peanuts themselves, though, don't really do it for me. Cashews are probably my favorite nut, but I usually can only find them "roasted" in some sort of questionable vegetable oil (despite my more lax dietary rules, I still think a lot of the soybean oil/canola oil types should be avoided).
For lunches at my office, I tend to eat almonds (just plain, unadulterated ones). I store my almonds in a freezer and transfer them in a chilled lunch bag. I just love me some cold almonds. A half cup of them (320 kcals/12 g carbs/12 g protein) and 2 scoops of O.N. Gold Star Cake Batter whey get me through the day.
My only problem with nuts in general is that they are just so easy to over-eat. I think this may be partly psychological due to the fact that they are perceived as a "clean" food. Despite their apparent cleanness, they are extremely caloricly dense due to the fact that they're almost entirely fat. Simply put, calories matter. There is nothing wrong with dietary fat in general (even saturated fat [but I would still try to avoid the veggie oils]), but I can easily find myself up 800 kcals after a couple visits to the 2 lb Blue Diamond value bag.

Eating nuts as part of a healthy diet can be good for your heart. Nuts, which contain unsaturated fatty acids and other nutrients, are a great snack food, too. They're inexpensive, easy to store and easy to pack when you're on the go.
The type of nut you eat isn't that important, although some nuts have more heart-healthy nutrients and fats than do others. Walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts — you name it — almost every type of nut has a lot of nutrition packed into a tiny package. If you have heart disease, eating nuts instead of a less healthy snack can help you more easily follow a heart-healthy diet.
People who eat nuts as part of a heart-healthy diet can lower the low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or "bad") cholesterol level in their blood. High LDL is one of the primary causes of heart disease.
Eating nuts may reduce your risk of developing blood clots that can cause a fatal heart attack. Nuts also appear to improve the health of the lining of your arteries.
