Surprised there's no thread yet.
I liked Spiderman 2, quite a bit. I'd go 7 out of 10. Good, not great. One thing that stood out as a negative was that the movie was about the villains and not Spidey. We watched the birth and death of one villain, birth and defeat of another, some jobber villain's entire thing, and what'd Spidey do? He was in love with the girl from the first movie. They broke up. They got back together. So the step forward is erased. Then she dies. So we took one step forward with Spiderman across the whole movie.
Andrew and Emma's chemistry is still unreal. So good. New Goblin was great, too.
On my phone. More later.
Discuss.

There is a thread, everyone's been posting in the Marvel thread about it...
But it was stellar. Best movie of the year, so far.

I really enjoyed it. I know its getting a lot of hate but I notice a common trend with the haters. They never read the comics and they were all too obsessed with the Raimi trilogy. This was by far the BEST on screen adaptation of Spider-Man to date. They couldnt have done the character any better.

I got no problems with it getting it's own thread. It deserves it. I was just saying that's why there hadn't been one, lol. I came looking for one too, and just found that everyone was posting in the Marvel thread.
Acting was legit. Garfield IS Spidey. His chemistry with Stone is incredible. The movie made me a DeHaan fan -- and they took a C-level Villain in Electro, and made him a legit, and entertaining, threat. I was on the "Why Foxx?" bandwagon. -- That was why.
The music, and creative decisions visually during Electro's scenes were awesome. The jokes were on point. There was just enough drama to let you come down from the action prior.
Smythe, Felicia, JJJ were all welcome additions, the Sinister Six set up is awesome. I actually thought Giamatti as Rhino was a lot of fun. He went over the top with it, and that's cool with me. It suited the character.
As I said in the other thread, and have been defending it all day long to people on the fence because of negative reviewers -- the movie's positive message seems to be rubbing people the wrong way. It's not a movie about a sad, depressed hero -- it's a movie about hope through all that sadness...that's Spidey, man. And I LOVE that they finally nailed it.

I throughly enjoyed it. My friends thought the story-line was wonky and I agree, but still, I throughly enjoyed it. I think Stone and Garfield are great together and DeHaan just has so much charisma. Can't wait for #3.

But a LOT of people are having issues with it's pacing. What was the issue with the story, that I must not be seeing?

They were mad that the whole film was meant to be about Electro and he was gone after two fight scenes, how quickly he got rid of Goblin and Goblin's time in the film, how Gwen died when the had so much chemistry, how he just bounced off of villains... Some more things but that's what I remember.

Maybe they feel like I did, that this movie was about the villains rather than Spider-Man. Spider-man has sort of ALWAYS included a lot about his villains, though. Much like Batman. Usually happens when you have such a deep, and awesome, rogues' gallery. A hero is often defined by his opposition. I think we got enough of his personal story as he worked through things about his dad, with May, and ultimately Gwen. We got what we needed to move the character forward. With the exception of a scene or two at the Bugle. I really would have enjoyed seeing that -- with JK Simmons back, at that. Just my opinion.

I loved that Harry Osborn was a "what if Peter went down a darker road" type of character. I don't know that Electro is gone. Just -- defeated. Electricity doesn't die, it just gets displaced. Could have given him a BIT more adversity, I'll agree with that, but -- we needed to buy he could handle himself in this movie, if we're ever to buy him surviving the S6...I LOVED that they used ingenuity, and science, to help him improve, and have a better chance (magnetising the web shooters, etc) I hate that she died, too, but -- it's integral to the story/character that she does. I'm glad we got it this time around, as opposed to the Raimi flicks. It makes his character that much deeper, and I can't wait to see how he is with Felicia/MJ moving forward. Also, I ADORED the use of Capt. Stacy in the movie. Few people I've read complain that he was pointless. No way. If we're to understand his struggle, seeing those ghosts with him is vital.

I seen it 2 weeks ago here in Ireland and thought it was excellent. When I seen it the 2nd time with my Godson Sean? I enjoyed it even more and he was glued to the seat.
Spideys movements and attitude was spot on. Im currently 2/3 thru reading ASM 300-400 so Im quite in touch at the moment.
Also the movie wasn't about the villians.....It was about Spidey/Pete. Don't understand for a second where that notion is coming from. But pickers will pick.
Also the pacing of the movie was spot on....there was ZERO drag time. Impressive considering EVERYBODY got done justice and May and his parents were also further fleshed out.
Garfield, Dehaan, Stone, Foxx & Cooper were great. LOVED the part near the end where they talk about the potential SS.Also good to know that Gustav Fiers was the guy from the post credit scenes in ASM1. Excellent choice for a character to connect the bad in Oscorp. Some may not know but Fiers is from the Books of Spidey and not the comics. I also HIGHLY doubt Norman is dead. The lingering camera shot on his hands was enough proof of that for me.....Hardy is obviously his agent too.
Also huge admiration for the way Gwens death was handled. The sequence of events leading up to this was unreal.....and the way the movie itself ended? Absolutely excellent.
Excellent through & through.

That was one of the first things I said after leaving the theater. It didn't seem like a near 2.5 hr movie. At all.

I haven't seen it. And I don't think I'll bother after seeing the first (which I thought was terrible), especially as this one has had worse reviews than that one.

Didn't have you pegged as someone who listens to reviewers AF.....they are pretentious wankers. But since you despise Garfield as Pete and disliked the first one intensely I wouldn't recommend you go either. Save yourself a tenner ol son!!

I'm just saying that if I didn't like the first, and this one is generally considered worse then I'll probably hate it more lol. Some of my favorite films were heavily panned by critics lol.

As I've been thinking, I hope if they bring MJ in, it's as a classmate for Peter in college, and have him dating Flash for ASM3...
But not a love interest.
Let him get involved with Felicia Hardy, and turn her to Black Cat. Then he has to deal with losing Gwen, his next GF going to the dark side -- and a super model quality potential love interest, who's dating a -- friend -- of sorts.
That's how I'd do it, anyways.

I'm actually currently re-watching ASM, right now. And I'll agree with Joker...if you really, really didn't dig this one, then probably save your cash...HOWEVER -- there's a very noticeable difference between ASM, and ASM2, to me. As far as tone. Marc Webb and Co. improved exponentially between the two films. At the very least, it deserves a Red Box rental when it comes around. At the VERY least. If I have any major issue with the first ASM, it's that it seems bogged down by this "We JUST told this story, ten years ago. How do we tell it again, while making it worth telling." -- that's not the fault of the filmmakers, to me. That's the production company. They wanted to keep the rights, but clearly needed to make a change from Raimi's vision... Webb and them did the best they could, with what they had to do, for the first flick. Those proverbial gloves are off for the second flick. It will be even MORE so with the 3rd one.
