He didn't come back to win the title, that's probably the last thing he wants right now, is to have the belt and need to do all the media. I think he came back for the paycheck and because he still enjoys wrestling, and there's nothing wrong with that. Rob's never been the kind of guy (outside the ring) who gives a sh*t if he loses or not. His first run back last year he said he came back for the title but no Del Rio was the obvious choice.... As of now he could be feuding with Bryan last year he could've feuded with Punk as the heyman guy instead of ing RYBAXEL who Ryback even said was a part of his career he'd like to forget what terrible booking. RVD should be champion one more time or at least a feud with Bryan!! He doesn't need the title at all and RVD as World Champion in 2014 is a bad choice.

I'm perfectly fine with watching him have matches with Cesaro, etc..
Win or lose, I get a dose of RVD and all the cool things he can do that still entertain me. He doesn't need to be a main event player.

Win/loss records don't mean all that much to me. I enjoy watching RVD perform in the ring. Thinking too much about how a wrestler is booked is something that takes away from my enjoyment of the product. I have been a fan for long enough to realize that WWE isn't always going to see things the same way I do and I'm ok with that. RVD is one of my favorites, so him getting tv time is enough for me.

Uhh how is he being mis-used? He's a 40-year-old part timer. He should be being used to put other people over. He doesn't put on that great of matches anymore and doesn't need to be WWE champion to get over. This is the silliest thread I've ever seen... and I saw the original STONG thread.

I think there are 2 major reasons we are seeing RVD in this position:
1: The WWE isn't going to put him in a high profile program when his contract let's him come & go every few months.
2: I think he's at a point in his career where he is content with what he's done, so its more about a paycheck now. Normally that's terms for some groans, but the guy has nothing more to prove. He's had amazing matches & still continues to perform at a high level. I would much rather see him mix it up with the mid card like he's been doing instead of more stuff with Orton, ADR, etc.

He's not here to be main eventing and become champion if that's what you're thinking. Although Rob Van Dam vs. Daniel Bryan would be pretty awesome though.

I was under the impression that he was just here to put people over.
It seems like he will start with Cesaro (at Payback) and maybe after that he could face a heel Sheamus for the US Title or even Wade for the IC Title?

I get what the original poster is saying in the sense that RVD being beat all the time is no good for the guys beating him and by elevating him a little bit he would give a bigger rub to someone.
but since he is on a 4-5 month contract? You cant really expect WWE to do that.

I love RVD and dont think he deserves to be treated this way. I personally think that he should be a main event superstar, I'd love to see Daniel Bryan vs. RVD!

Everything has pretty much been said already...
He's around for short periods of time so he can put on good matches with new talent.
That's all.

Turn him heel. Pair him with Heyman. Have him be a credible challenger to Bryan's title. They would put on clinics. I agree with this.

His character has been pretty boring for years. Cocky 2001 RVD was epic, i would have loved this. RVD vs. Daniel Bryan would be a killer match. Build it up, and finish off with a scorcher.

It was clear to me as soon as they paired him with Ricardo that they have zero long-term plans for him and are only using him to help get other guys over. It really sucks because I was hoping for RVD vs. Punk, Bryan, etc. when he first came back and it's clear none of that will be happening now.

Rob Van Dam is irrelevant. He's not here to be in storylines or win titles, or even win matches. He came back to WWE because it's easier and pays more than TNA. Plain and simple. He's getting huge paychecks to wrestle a few matches, then take 6 months off, then wrestle a few matches and take 6 more months off. I really think he could care less. Titles, wins, and storylines would mean more work and more time for him to have to put in. And this works out for WWE because Rob Van Dam's name looks better on the card than Kofi Kingston. Same with Brock. Same with Jericho when he comes in. These guys just use WWE to cash in a huge payday for minimal work. The only guy getting screwed around here is Batista. He came back full time and was promised the Championship and he got screwed. He's jobbed to Bryan, he's jobbed to the Shield....this is not what he signed up for. So anybody bitching that hes not sticking around for Payback to job to Bryan once AGAIN..... Batista has done everything and more than what was expected of him and has received NOTHING that was promised to him. So he has the right to leave for as long as he wants. At least when he films movies they actually have his character do what was promised and what was written in the original scripts instead of pulling a swerve on him and having his character be a joke. Good. BUH BYE!

Its a win for everyone: 1. He gets a big paycheck of course 2. We get to see a nostalgic upper mid-card wrestler each week
Thats all he will be, like Jericho. Unless he ever comes back for the long term.
