I know this figure is a few years old, but it still baffles me. How did they take his hair right here and create this?

That it got made at all amidst that sea of John Cena figures that we got that year is a miracle (it really felt like so many in 2010 and 2011, and like fewer now, although that may just be an illusion since there were fewer figures to pick from back then).
Anyway, it is a little baffling that this "scan" has a lot more hair on it. It's an okay figure, but I still couldn't pull the trigger yet, even though it is the only modern roster figure I don't have at least one of.

Maybe Steamboat himself asked them not to showcase it. No different than the rumor that Hogan stopped letting Jakks do bald scans.

It's been said a million times but WWE figures are idealized versions of all the characters. They're obviously not going to give the guy that terrible hairline.

Man, some of you guys are ridiculous and will find a reason to complain about on every figure.....sometimes all you can do is laugh.

I just ordered this figure on ebay for $7 w/ shipping. Thought it was a pretty good deal myself.

Kinda answered your own question with the picture comparison.
Which one looks better?

I didn't realize this was a Battle Pack. Have more classic wrestlers made it in early iterations of the Battle Packs, with the black/red packaging?

Obviously they based the figure off of the heavily photoshopped image on the package. That said, the picture you're referencing is a really bad pic for Ricky. His male pattern baldness didn't look quite that bad when watching him in live action. That still photo seems to have captured him at his very worst angle. On a related note. The creation of that figure was something that really sold me on mattel. Surely they knew that they'd never have occasion to use that scan again and they still went forward with it. Jakks would have used the legends scan and either called it some kind of fantasy match up, or, just used the young steamboat scan and not even tried to over an explanation for why they put the young head on the current attired body. They would claim that it couldn't be justified in their budget to scan and create a new mold for a head that would only be used once in a basic line.

I don't think it's too far off. I'd rather have it than no current version at all.

I love the figure. Just for the fact that it's a modern day Steamboat and he still remains my all time favorite. The head sculpt would actually make a decent custom for when he cut his hair during his feud with Jake.

I have it and am glad they made it even though the head and body are all wrong. The body bothers me more than the head.
