I really could care less about professional soccer but I always enjoy the World Cup....Doesnt matter much though. Both Americans & Brits will both think they have a chance, only to get early boots and watch Brazil win again. America...a chance...I love your sense of comedy. I actually hear lot of people talk like they've got a chance. The same thing happened 4 years ago. Its just not "our" sport. The rest of the world is so far ahead of us.

Both Americans & Brits will both think they have a chance, only to get early boots and watch Brazil win again. England, not Britain. Scotland haven't qualified for a major tournament in about 15 years, Wales and Northern Ireland about 30 years. And I doubt there's many English or Americans who think that, they are definitely a small minority. Everyone knows there's only about 4 or 5 teams who have a realistic chance of winning. But that's not what the World Cup is about. It's about the excitement, the drama, the spectacle, the underdogs, the great goals.

Going for Australia I don't have very high hopes for the World Cup in the legit Group of Doom...Spain, The Netherlands and Chile.
Doesn't look good for the Socceroos.

NYC FC is going to kick ass!!! Lampard and David Villa!!!!! Didn't the MLS have a policy of only allowing one overseas player per team? Or has that been scrapped now? Either way, Villa is a massive gain for the MLS as a whole. The guy is still at a fairly high level so he's going to destroy teams next season if he plays to the best of his ability.

No no...I really *could* care less....I dont mind professional soccer, its way above say the NBA...so technically, I actually could care less.

Well the MLS is trying to bring in names and hype to make it a top five world league. It is arguably top 15 now, but landing names like that and putting more effort into our own talent (surely there are plenty of Donovan's out there just waiting to try the sport) so I imagine they tossed it.

That's a step in the right direction. It's the only way the MLS can become an attractive league. As more internationals come in, the homegrown Americans will step up their game to ensure they retain their place in the team. Eventually implement a second tier to help produce young stars too. Altidore's just scored in tonight's friendly. Having said that, it was a tap in that even my mother could've scored.

Well we are still in a country where the dominant sport is a rugby offshoot, not soccer. People still look down on soccer...I think the only thing that might change that here is (eventually) a decent Cup run. You have to figure they will eventually get a favorable bracket where they can advance a couple of rounds, then maybe things for the sport will get better here.

Women's football is like that everywhere though. If you don't have an active interest in it then you wouldn't be able to name anyone because of how little coverage it gets. Even those who don't follow the men's game here could probably name a few players like Beckham and Rooney. As an example, I don't follow rugby or cricket so I couldn't name anyone for sure. Maybe a name I caught on Sky Sports News once in a while.
But because I follow the sports at least somewhat, I could name hundreds of footballers and a decent amount of women's footballers, NFL guys and some NHL ones too.

The US don't have a chance of winning at this World Cup IMO. They've got Landon Donavan but I don't rate any other outfield players highly.
Overall I see Brazil winning this one. I live in Australia and we have less of a chance than the US, in the first round we have the two players in the World Cup 2010 final in Spain and the Netherlands, as well as another good team in Chile.
I really hope that an underdog can get a win though, Bosnia is my team that I hope to win the most, given it's their first time in the World Cup since the Yugoslavia days plus naturally they're my second pick as my family is from there. I think that if they beat Argentina this Sunday they could get to the Group of 16.

Shows how much I've been paying attention overall to teams outside of Europe/South America :x He is getting a bit old now but based on the little I've seen from him in the MLS doesn't make it seem like he's lost his touch a whole lot.

Nope. The guy is still a top tier (American standards) player. But even if he had lost a step, he is one of those players that even if you begin to decline, you make the team on name and merit alone because you have proven that you are a GREAT player at both the paid and international level. Just my thoughts though.
