Dowels also come squared. They come in varying dgrees of thicknesses too. I've got some square ones for my TNA ring that I am currently making. You can also get metal dowels, which I'm going to use to make a six sided cage and a hell in a cell once both of my rings are done.

wooden dowels are thing long wooden cylanders. You can buy them at wal-mart for less than a dollar.
