I boil it on high for about 30 seconds. you keep the water boiling you can let the figures touch the bottom of the pan if the pan is thick. if it is thin then the paint will chip off.

Ugh. Sculpey sucks. Try Aves Apoxie Sculpt. A two part epoxy putty that won't chip after a year. No boiling/baking needed for it to cure either.

Put sealer on it after you sand it down.
