Basically, what if Austin had done a HBK and come back from a 'career-ending' injury a few years later for a solid second run? What do you think the main changes to the WWE would have been, what would he have done and who would he have faced?
He obviously would've put Cena over at WM, maybe at 25. I think he would've had a title run or two but more as a go-to guy rather than a long run because he would never have needed the title of course. I would have loved to see a rematch with HBK and for him to add to Undertaker's Streak, but I also can think of plenty of other matches. I would've liked to see him face RVD around 2006 if he was back by then, and a long one-on-one feud with Jericho towards the end of the decade would've been great. Punk is obviously another one, and a feud with Austin could've been perfect for a guy floundering like Ziggler or someone. However, I think the one I'd want to see the most is Legend-Killer Orton. That would've been brilliant.
So yeah, anyone else got any suggestions? Would've been great to see.

I would've wanted a full blown SES CM Punk vs. Stone Cold feud.

Tough. 2006 sucked. If he came back around then, would he of had a hand in ECW?

I would have LOVED for Austin to be the guy that halted Ortons Rampage as the Legend Killer. Even in defeat Orton would have looked brilliant.

Interesting thought. Say he'd had a four-year layoff after WM19, and then come back for WM23... He could've had epic feuds with Edge and Orton. The big money matches would have been in face vs face matches with Cena, Batista and Michaels. He'd have challenged Undertaker's streak, too. Austin vs Miz could have been a fun mini-feud at some point in 2009 or 2010 as well. Austin vs Cena at WrestleMania 25 would have been spectacular.

Speaking as a massive Rock fan (in the same way I know you're a massive Austin fan), I didn't mind Cena pinning him. No matter how much you dislike Cena you can see why they did it, and it was so obvious we all had months to come to terms with it. At least Rock got to pin Cena too.

LOL of course.....I was joking man. Cena's the top guy and for a good reason he would have HAD to go over Austin same as Rock.. Not everyone may like him but that's what makes the world turn I suppose.

I love the idea of him main eventing against Rated-R Edge, SES Punk, and big WM matches against Cena & Undertaker. I think him having feuds with Triple H, Chris Jericho, and Batista would have been incredible.

But think about it this way, if Austin/Cena happened at Wrestlemania 25 like everyone assumes in this fantasy timeline, there's no way in hell Cena would have gone over Austin in Texas. They probably woulda went the Rock/Cena route and have Austin win first.

He would've stepped up to Taker at WrestleMania, and he would've been sat down

I feel like I would've enjoyed Austin/Cena more than Rock/Cena. A match can look good on paper, it the finished product is what matters. John Cena & The Rock had zero chemistry, their two encounters were flat, boring affairs. Their WrestleMania XXIX match nearly put me to sleep. As for John Cena & Steve Austin, it would have been given the same result as Rock/Cena. If Austin was healthy post-2003, I don't think he would have been in the ring for much longer. The WWE was changing towards a new direction with the OVW Four (John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Batista, & Randy Orton). Austin sticking around as an active performer would have been like saying seeing Hulk Hogan trying to fit in the WWF New Generation Era. Certain guys can fit in any era, Austin would look out of place as an active performer say in 2005. We can dream up of potential dream matches and type them on a computer. What matters most is how these guys execute in the ring and if they can have chemistry in the ring.

Maybe HBK wouldnt have had a second run had Austin stayed wrestling? Maybe Ziggler, Orton, and RVD would have never gotten pushes to the main event? Maybe Austin would have rejected the thought of wrestling with certain people to protect his longevity?

Maybe Austin would have rejected the thought of wrestling with certain people to protect his longevity? Longeviy was not on Steve Austin's side. Austin was 33 years old when the rocket was strapped on his back. The impression I am getting from hearing Austin's podcast is he has zero regrets riding off into the sunset when he did. Not to mention, it took Austin three years to get the bug out of him. Being at the right place and time can aid to the success of any talent. Like Austin in 1998, Cena was in the same situation in 2005.
