Quick question for those who read these; which format of mine is better? The one I just used for Survivor Series 95 or the one I had been using. They aren't that much different but still. The newer one. Btw, going through Renee's twitter last night (as you do) and saw her quote your tweet haha. Unless there's another Kevstaaa of course Yea, it was me. It was glorious. So I've got two votes so far, 1-1.

Ground Zero (1997)Disappointed as I spent 30 minutes typing out the review for this PPV only for my PC to freeze. Can't be bothered doing that again so for continuity purposes, I will just post the match, my star rating and a few words about it. Brian Pillman d. Goldust
Pillman's last PPV match, pretty much just like their last one. Brian wins by hitting Goldust with brick purse. ** Rest In Power Brian Pillman. Brian Christopher d. PutskiPutski gets legit injured and counted out. Forgot this match was on the card and I watched it an hour ago. N/A
Savio Vega d. Farooq and Crush
One of the worst matches I think I have ever seen. Not even train wreck bad, just terrible. Nothing
Max Mini d. El Torito
Fun match with midgets who fly around and put on a decent showing. ***
Headbangers d. L.O.D, Godwinns and Hart Foundation - WWF Tag Team Championships
Bulldog and Hart are barely in this match until the end which shows as this was a dud. Austin runs in at the end to a huge pop to cost The Hard Foundation the belts. **Bret Hart d. The Patriot - WWF Championship
Good technically sound match with Hart winning by Sharpshooter. Hart brandishes every American in The WWF a loser and says that he looks forward to One Night Only as The UK appreciate good wrestling. Thanks Chap! ***1/2
The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels
Wrote a lot about this match in the original review but don't have it in me to do it again. Crazy brawl, referees knocked out, Rick Rude, Undertaker diving on 20 guys. Lots of fun. ***3/4
Bit of a filler PPV with 2 very good matches. Will be back doing a proper review for the next show.. One Night Only

WrestleMania X8 March 17th, 2002 – Skydome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Heading into this show, the WWE had the nWo, Triple H feuding with his wife more than Chris Jericho for the WWF Undisputed Championship and Steve Austin in the mid-card. Regardless, the card looks pretty good even with some filler matches. I do love 2002 so let's see how it's WrestleMania holds up. Also, this is the last WrestleMania held under the WWF name.
Instead of opening with American the Beautiful, Saliva performs “Superstar”. So much for patriotism, but I do like this song. The intro video is built to be pretty epic even though some of the matches are less than that.
Intercontinental Championship William Regal (c) vs. Rob Van Dam In 2001, Rob Van Dam was one of the most over guys in the company. He's still very over here and would make for an ideal Intercontinental Champion. William Regal walks out with his title upside down. RVD hits a spin kick and moonsault to begin. “RVD” chants from the excited crowd. Regal brings out the brass knuckles but RVD kicks them off his hand. Regal starts to plead and eats another back kick. RVD goes for the Five Star Frog Splash but misses. KNEE TREMBLER only gets two. Old school style as Regal goes for two more quick covers. RVD wisely counters a European uppercut into a backslide for two. Lots of early near falls, which I'm all for. Another one after a suplex from the Champion. Sick looking neckbreaker from Regal gets another near fall. After taking a kick to the jaw, Regal gets his knees up on Rolling Thunder and hits the butterfly bomb for two again. Regal Stretch gets reversed into a small package for two. The Champ is bleeding from the mouth as he goes for the bomb again, but RVD blocks it. RVD gets in some of his usual stuff like a monkey flip. He goes for the step over enziguri but Regal counters into a nasty looking half nelson suplex. Seriously, it looks like he folded RVD in half. Regal tries brass knuckles again but gets kicked. The challenger goes up top and hits the Five Star Frog Splash to become the new Champion.
Winner and New Intercontinental Champion: Rob Van Dam in 6:20 Damn that was a fun ass six and a half minutes. They git a lot into the time and it was exciting throughout. Stiff offense and the crowd was into it. Really good stuff. ***1/2
Christian is making fun of DDP's smiley face as Lillian Garcia interviews him backstage. He says that he didn't need DDP's help once he started winning again. He quickly gets the Toronto crowd to turn on him by saying that he moved to Florida.
European Championship DDP (c) vs. Christian Christian still had his awesome entrance with the pyro that Randy Orton and Alberto Del Rio stole from him. Cool note, DDP drove a car to the ring during WrestleMania VI in Toronto and gets his one and only WrestleMania match in Toronto. Christian attacks at the bell and poses with the belt. They trade shots as DDP's vest isn't even off yet. Gutwrench rib breaker from DDP which is unique. They spill outside for a bit before Christian uses a low blow in the ring to turn the tide. Back outside for a few seconds before oddly going right back in. Christian mocks the Diamond Cutter taunt before they go outside and quickly back in again. What's with that? Abdominal stretch time, DDP breaks it but eats a reverse DDT anyway. Christian goes to the top but gets brought down hard by the Champion. DDP hits a discus clothesline, followed by a powerbomb. That only nets him two and when they get up, we get a series of reversals, including both the Unprettier and Diamond Cutter getting countered. Christian again blocks the Diamond Cutter and hits another reverse DDT for two. He nearly has a temper tantrum but calms down. DDP pulls him into an inside cradle for two. Diamond Cutter from out of nowhere and DDP retains.
Winner and Still European Champion: DDP in 6:08 Decent little match here. The crowd was kind of dead for it, but it wasn't bad. **
DDP gets a microphone and says he's proud of Christian for not losing his temper. “You lost in front of 67,000 people in your hometown. That's not a bad thing, that's a good thing.” Christian then throws a temper tantrum.
Jonathan Coachman interviews The Rock backstage. Of course, Rock has to mess with Coach which is always funny as hell. He makes Coach say his prayers and Coach starts with “what up G?” The Rock is flabbergasted and kicks him off the area.
Hardcore Championship Maven (c) vs. Goldust I totally forgot that Maven had a WrestleMania match. Goldust brings out golden trashcans. The fighting starts outside and Goldust tosses Maven into the guardrail before laying him across it, leaping off the apron and driving his forearm into Maven. Back inside, Goldust tries to slingshot Maven into the can, but they botch it. Maven dropkicks the garbage can into Goldust's face for two and gets a small package for two. Neckbreaker from Goldust earns a near fall. A front suplex and Goldust gets a golden shovel from under the ring. Let the Triple H burial jokes commence. He levels Maven with it and sets up the trashcan in the corner. Hard Irish whip into the can gets two. They each get a trash can lid and knock each other with it. Spike Dudley runs down and pins Maven for the belt.
Winner and New Hardcore Champion: Spike Dudley in 3:20 Crowd wasn't into it and they messed up some spots. But it was short and not boring. *1/2
Crash Holly runs out and chases Spike through the crowd. Goldust and Maven follow. Drowning Pool performs “Tear Away”, the other theme to WrestleMania, with a video package for the Undisputed Title match playing. I mainly now know this song for being Kevin Steen's old indy theme.
Still following the Hardcore Title action, Crash and Spike are brawling backstage. Spike escapes but is hit by the Hurricane who flies in, complete with “whoosh” sound effect. He covers and wins the Hardcore Title.
Kane vs. Kurt Angle So since winning the WWF Title in 2000, Kurt Angle has had two WrestleMania matches. One was against Chris Benoit and it was made less than a week before the show and this is another thrown together match. Not cool. Kurt's black attire is cool and a precursor to his “Wrestling Machine” role. Angle attacks before the match with the ring bell, using one of his three I's. Kane shakes off the effects and they trade shots before Kane takes a German suplex. Kane again shakes this off and choke throws Angle around. Chokeslam is blocked when Angle grabs the ropes. Angle fires back with a well executed overhead belly to belly. I don't remember what happened, but apparently Kane cost Angle his chance to main event this show. Angle gets a near fall after a pair of suplexes and its REST HOLD TIME! Kane tosses Angle to power out of the front face lock. Kane catches Angle with a big sidewalk slam. Kane's all like “I CAN SUPLEX PEOPLE TOO KURT” but Kurt's like “NOPE” and reverses into rolling Germans for two. Kurt steals Kane's flying clothesline off the top and showboats. He stupidly goes for it again and takes a clothesline instead. Kane hits a big boot and huge powerslam for a near fall. Kurt runs into a Chokeslam and gets his hand on the rope to save the match. Tombstone attempt is thwarted when Kane tries to remove the mask. Angle Slam gets him two and he's stunned. Straps are down and Ankle Lock is locked in. Kane reaches the ropes and gets to his foot but Angle won't release so he busts out an enziguri. Those years tagging with X-Pac finally pay off. Kane climbs up but struggles, so Angle leaps to the top and impressively snaps off a belly to belly. Kane blocks an Angle Slam and goes for a Chokeslam, but Angle counters that into a rollup. He uses the ropes for leverage and steals it.
Winner: Kurt Angle in 10:40 For the second straight year, Kurt Angle cheaply wins a mid-card WrestleMania match. Still though, it was a good battle and Kurt was on fire tossing Kane around. The score would've been higher had the “Kane has head trauma” story not disappeared. ***
The Hurricane is sneaking around backstage when he accidentally sneaks behind a silhouette thing with a broomstick. Some chicks that I've never seen walk in and start disrobing, somehow not noticing that someone is hiding. The girl thinks her boobs are too big, because this is a conversation that real women have when they disrobe together. They finally see Hurricane and his broomstick being inappropriately placed and run. Oh, they're the Godfather's Hoes. But he's not on the card...
The Undertaker badly wanted to face Ric Flair at WrestleMania but Flair kept declining. Undertaker beat the crap out of both Arn Anderson and David Flair to get Ric to say yes. Ric should have just remembered that David turned on him at SuperBrawl IX. I can't take the rest of the video seriously because the future La Resistance theme plays over it.
No Disqualification Ric Flair vs. The Undertaker In the moment of the night where you realize just how long ago 2002 was, Jim Ross mentions that The Undertaker is just 9-0 at WrestleMania. Ric Flair does his best run to the ring and lights up Undertaker with short arm lefts and rights. They fight by the announce table in front of NBA bench players in the crowd. Flair is in control until he tries to jump off the apron for some unknown reason and is caught and driven into the ring post. Back inside, Undertaker delivers SOUPBONES in the corner. As Taker whups Flair into the corner, he nearly does the HBK bump, but hits his shoulder. They try it again and it works before Taker big boots him off the apron. By the way, the Booger Red nickname for Taker was great. Taker has a cut on his cheek, but with more right hands, he busts Flair open. Surprise, surprise. The beating continues as Flair is gushing. Flair burns Undertaker's chest with some chops but takes a clothesline. Flair is placed on the top as Undertaker has punched him about a hundred times. Huge top rope superplex and Undertaker covers but picks up Flair after two. We get more of the Undertaker beating Flair and not pinning him. Has he never watched a match before? That's a bad move. Undertaker misses a leg drop and Flair gets in a few chops before going down. Old School fails as Flair pulls Taker down from the top. Taker still holding serve but misses a big boot and gets crotched on the top rope. Flair pulls out a lead pipe from the motorcycle and hits Taker with it, busing him open more. Two more shots do damage, but Taker comes back. However, Flair grabs a sign and beats on Taker with it. Short punches galore from Flair before a strut and low blow. Figure Four and the place is going crazy. Taker falls to the mat and gets counted for two but he sits up and uses a chokeslam to break the hold. Flair kicks out and Taker is pissed. He takes it out on LIL NAITCH before getting the pipe. Flair fights back and from literally out of nowhere ARN ANDERSON appears and hits a spinebuster on Taker! Flair covers but gets a near fall as Taker goes outside and beats on Double A. He's bleeding too. Taker puts him in a dragon sleeper so Flair comes in with some chair shots, but Taker brushes them off with a big boot. Taker goes for Last Ride but they mess it up twice so he opts for the Tombstone which gets it done.
Winner: The Undertaker in 18:45 Brutal brawl that I enjoyed the hell out of. Undertaker makes it to 10-0, and, after disappointing matches early in his WrestleMania career, has now had two really good brawls in a row. ***1/2
The Undertaker does his infamous count of his ten victims on his hand before riding off. Michael Cole interviews Booker T, who is wearing glasses for some reason. Oh, Edge said that he was stupid. Well they're both dumb for wrestling over a shampoo commercial.
Booker T vs. Edge Never will I understand why this had to be about a Japanese shampoo commercial but it was. Nice little sequence as Edge hits a dropkick and facebuster for two. EDDIE GILBERT hotshot from Booker! Can't seem to go a show without one. A clothesline takes Edge over as Booker hops off the apron and clubs Edge. Booker pulls off a missile dropkick for a near fall. Shots in the corner from Booker are reversed but he hits Edge with a stiff spinebuster. Booker goes up again, but Edge crotches him. They both a frankensteiner spot as Booker lands on Edge. Spinning heel kick from Edge, who is starting to string together offense. Booker does a reversal and goes for the Scissors Kick but Edge dodges and hits the Edge-o-matic for two. Top rope spinning heel kick gets Edge two again. Booker goes for a rollup, but Edge counters with a slingshot. He goes for the Spear but Booker leaps over him and hits an axe kick. SPINAROONIE! Scissors Kick follows but Edge manages to kick out. He goes for the Bookend but Edge counters and connects with the Spear. Booker kicks out which surprised me. EDGEAROONIE! A series of reversals leads to the Edgecution and the win for Edge.
Winner: Edge in 6:32 Solid little match even if it was based around something dumb. These are two really good workers and the ending sequence was really good. **1/2
The Coach catches up with Hurricane for an interview. Hurricane is so in character that it's breathtaking. Mighty Molly appears, hits him with a frying pan and steals the Hardcore Title.
Scott Hall w/ Kevin Nash vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin I can see why Steve Austin was unhappy in 2002. He was still ridiculously popular, but was saddled in the mid-card with Scott Hall as the secondary nWo feud. I still think we should've gotten Austin/Hogan but I digress. Austin attacks before the bell and stomps a mud hole in the former Razor Ramon. A thumb to the eyes works for Hall but he ends up taking a Lou Thez Press. That move isn't as cool without JR shouting “RIGHT HANDS RIGHT HANDS THE RATTLESNAKE STRIKES! PISTON LIKE RIGHT HANDS”! Hall exits to gather his thoughts and Austin takes out Kevin Nash. Hall does get the upper hand while Nash exposes a turnbuckle. Of course, Austin goes back first into that corner. Fallaway slam, which was so cool back in the early 90's, gets Hall a near fall. Austin blocks a hip toss but gets clotheslined hard. Hall stomps away on Austin before Nash gets in a cheap shot. Despite Hall running things, Austin gets the Stunner from out of nowhere and Nash pulls out the ref. He enters and beats down on Austin. Austin takes their offense and gives both guys Stunners but there's no referee. Out comes Jack Doane, sliding in, but takes an elbow from Big Sexy. Hall sets up for the Razor's or Outsider's Edge, but Austin flips him over and out. Nash gets booted by a bunch of referees and the crowd boos that decision. Hall has enough finishers stored to steal the Stunner but the ref is slow to get in, and Austin gets his shoulder up. Austin hits a Stunner followed immediately by another Stunner and wins.
Winner: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in 9:52 Not a bad match but Steve Austin deserved better. He had really good to amazing matches at WrestleMania besides this and WM 12. Decent stuff and the hot crowd helped it. **1/2
Axxess highlights are shown, which is always cool. Best part is Booker T played a kid in a video game, beat him and then celebrated.
WWF Tag Team Championship Billy & Chuck (c) vs. The Dudley Boyz w/ Stacy Keibler vs. The Hardy Boyz vs. The APA Well, elimination rules make this interesting for sure. Dudleys get the live performance treatment and Stacy dances with Saliva's lead singer. Billy and Chuck's theme was great. Bradshaw and Chuck open the match as the APA attack the Champs before the bell. The Hardys and Dudleys don't get involved for the first few minutes. D-Von gets tagged and it's hard to pay attention when Stacy Keibler is bent over in front of the hard camera. I do see Billy take a Clothesline from Hell, but the Dudleys 3-D Bradshaw and the APA is gone. Hardys come in and do some double team offense. Double DDT on Chuck as the Dudleys bring out a table. Hardys take them out though. Whisper in the Wind from Jeff as Stacy gets on the apron and pulls up her shorts before shaking her ass to distract Jeff. He spanks and kisses her before knocking her off. Bubba Bomb on Billy shortly after. Dudley double team on Jeff for a bit. REST HOLD TIME! Jeff fights free but eats a clothesline. We get more Dudleys/Hardys, which has to be like their one millionth match together or something. Billy and Chuck have literally just stayed on the apron for the most part. It's honestly the same thing each time by now. Twist of Fate and Swanton on Bubba eliminate THOSE DAMN DUDLEYS! Hardys control the work with the Champs, and even hit the Swanton but a Fameasser manages to earn Chuck a near fall. Billy now takes out Jeff with the belt and that does it.
Winners and Still WWF Tag Team Champions: Billy and Chuck in 13:51 Mediocre stuff. Same old stuff from the Hardys and Dudleys before the Champs got a tainted win. **
Scott Hall and Kevin Nash speak about taking out their anger on The Rock, when Hogan appears to a pop. He tells them that he wants to do this alone. They agree, but after he leaves they say there's no way they won't get involved.
Molly Holly is running backstage with the Hardcore Title. She gets taken out by a door and Christian pins her for the Hardcore Title.
“Hollywood” Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock Interesting that this was built as the past vs. the future when the Rock would leave a little over a year later. Hogan gets an absurd pop as the crowd is pro-Hogan. The stare down stuff after the bell is great. Talk about a big fight feel. They lock up and Hogan overpowers Rock and flexes to a massive pop. Rock fights out of a headlock and get tackled. More posing from Hogan draws an insane reaction. Hogan hammers away on Rocky and clotheslines him. Rock retaliates with a huge clothesline and tells Hogan to bring it to big heat. Rock lays in some punches and Hogan can't fall over the top, so he sloppily rolls outside. Hogan blocks a Rock Bottom and drops some elbows on him. Instead of a third elbow, he rakes Rock's face and gets a pop. Hogan could do anything here and not get booed. JR mentions that this is the building where Hogan lost his only singles match at 'Mania. Hogan pulls out a belly to back suplex for two. ABDOMINAL STRETCH! The most devious move in the history of the sport. Hogan gives up on it and does the first school boy I've ever seen from him. Vicious back rake from Hogan, which he did even as a face back in the days. Punches in the corner from Hogan before he bites on the People's forehead. Rock runs into a chokeslam as Hogan is pulling out all the stops. Hogan, ever the heel, chokes Rock a bit. Rock fires away with right hands but Hogan sends him over and out to another pop. They brawl outside for a bit as Hogan clears off the announce table. Rock fights back and talks smack to boos. He grabs a chair but is stopped by the ref, allowing Hogan to clothesline him. Who's the face here again? Back inside, a double axe handle knocks Rock into Mike Chioda. Spinebuster from Rocky has both men down, until Rock slaps on the Sharpshooter. Hogan taps but Chioda is dead. “Rocky Sucks” chants get louder as Hogan nails a low blow and Rock Bottom as the crowd goes nuts. Rocky kicks out to the crowd's dismay. Hogan removes the weight belt and whips Rock with it a few times. Rock reaches down and delivers a DDT. Rock grabs the belt and whips Hogan with it. He spits on the Hollywood name, as he is going full heel tonight. Rock Bottom but Hogan kicks out and Hulks up. Big boot and leg drop connect as the crowd is deafening but Rock gets his shoulder up. Another big boot, but the second leg drop misses. Second Rock Bottom is good but no cover. Rock picks him up and gets a third Rock Bottom. THE MOST ELECTRIFYING MOVE IN SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT! People's Elbow earns him the three.
Winner: The Rock in 16:24 Match of the night. Not a mat classic, but the spectacle of this was incredible. The crowd could not be hotter and it made this amazing to watch. Tremendous stuff between two of the greatest ever. ****1/2
Post match we get a handshake and this leads to the return of red and yellow Hogan. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall come down, pissed at Hogan being all non-nWo like. Hall throws his toothpick at Hogan and they beat on him. Rock runs back to the ring, getting the pop he normally would and they clean house. Rock and Hogan pose for the crowd.
The Big Show is at WWF New York in one of the WrestleMania moments of his that Cody Rhodes poked fun at. Two years ago he was in the main event of WrestleMania and now he can't make the card.
Women's Championship Jazz (c) vs. Lita vs. Trish Stratus Trish is sporting her outstanding Maple Leaf shorts, which she reveals from behind a Canadian flag. It's a beautiful sight. The crowd is really dead after that previous match. Jazz and Lita brawl before Trish gets in. Once she enters, they double team the powerhouse that is Jazz. The Champ has none of that and gets Trish in a half crab before doing a variation of the Glam Slam on Lita. Butterfly suplex from Jazz, who then spin kicks Trish out of the ring. Head scissors from Lita and a spin out bomb gets her two. Impressive moves here. Jazz perches Lita up top for a superplex, but Trish interrupts. She rolls Jazz up for two and Lita nails her with a flying cross body. Chick Kick from Trish followed by a bulldog might've gotten three but Jazz stops it and splashes Lita. Jazz plants Lita with a fisherman's suplex for two. Trish counters a slam into a reverse DDT for two. Lita and Trish face off and trade shots. Trish lands awkwardly on a back body drop and Lita goes for the Twist of Fate. She yells just like Matt unfortunately. She goes to remove her shirt but can't and her moonsault attempt is blocked by Trish's knees. Trish chops away at her before they run into each other. Lita tosses Trish when she tries Stratusfaction and her leg gets tangled horribly in the ropes. Jazz destroys Lita with a top rope fisherman suplex in a holy crap ending.
Winner and Still Women's Champion: Jazz in 6:16 Good women's match. The girls were bringing out big moves for WrestleMania, but the crowd was so dead. **
Christian celebrates as he tries to exit with the Hardcore Title. Maven appears and rolls him up to get back his belt. And he steals Christian's cab.
WWF Undisputed Championship Chris Jericho (c) w/ Stephanie McMahon vs. Triple H As always, I must note how great Stephanie looks. Poor Chris Jericho got to be in the WrestleMania main event, though he's an afterthought in the Stephanie/HHH rivalry. Early on, it's clear that the focus is going to be on Triple H's leg and Jericho goes after it. Triple H hits a high knee and is hurt from it. HHH is knocked outside before he tosses Jericho from the top onto the guardrail. Suplex on the outside from the Game. He wants to put Jericho through the announce table, but the Champion attacks the leg. Back inside, Jericho continues to focus on it. HHH works Jericho's leg in some turnabout is fair play. He puts on the figure four but Stephanie takes his eyes. HHH pulls her up to the apron and moves as Jericho charges, and he spears her. HHH goes to Pedigree his wife but takes a missile dropkick. More leg work from Jericho as he uses Brock's future “Brock Lock” for a bit. Stephanie gets involved again by slapping HHH. Jericho goes all Bret Hart and uses the ring post figure four. More leg work until a neckbreaker stops Jericho. A clothesline gets a near fall for Hunter. HHH hits another knee to the face, but is hurting. HHH's offensive comeback is thwarted when Jericho knocks him outside. HHH is placed on the announce table, and in a nice callback to the day he tore his quad, Jericho goes for the Walls on it. Triple H kicks him to stop it and goes for the Pedigree. He instead suffers a back drop through the other table. Inside, HHH kicks out of a Lionsault. He again blocks the Walls but eventually gets put in it anyway. HHH is a manly man though as he reaches the ropes. Jericho gets a chair but it gets kicked in his face and he gets a DDT on it while Steph distracts the ref. Stephanie takes the chair and Hebner snatches the chair from her. She turns into HHH who Pedigrees her and nearly pops her boobs probably. Jericho lays him out with the chair but only gets a near fall. Jericho calls for the Pedigree, but HHH counters and slingshots him. Jericho lands on the second rope, turns and leaps right into a kick and Pedigree.
Winner and New WWF Undisputed Champion: Triple H in 18:40 People give this match a lot of crap but it's not bad. It's disappointing for sure and should've been more, but still. The dead crowd didn't help matters. ***1/4
Overall: 7/10; Good. Everyone only remembers one match from this show and for good reason. Rock/Hogan is easily the only memorable thing. However, everything on the show is decent to good. Even the worst match, the Hardcore Title match, led to some entertaining segments throughout the night. Worth a look.

WM X-8 is the weakest in the Holy Trinity of WrestleManias (17 18 19), but its still pretty great imo. I know Austin hated being in the mid-card but there wasn't that much else available to him tbh. He probably would've hated it more if he faced Hogan because he would've got booed too. Yeah I know he was super popular etc. but that crowd grew up with Hogan and they would've popped for him vs. literally anyone that night. Same thing with Rock 10 years later (although him facing someone with way less popularity than himself 10 years previously made it a moot point).

Nice review Kev, i really enjoy these reviews because it reminds me of matches from PPV that i might have forgotten about or haven't watched in ages. I have to be honest though i would struggle to re watch whole PPV's as there is always a bit of filer that isn't worth a re watch but i admire your work in reviewing the whole of these shows.
Take your review of WM18, whenever i watch this i only ever rewatch the RVD match, Taker match and Rock vs Hogan. I never clicked with the Angle,Austin,HHH/Jericho matches. (Jericho vs HHH from 2000 is better if i want my fix from those 2, or the tag team match in 2001)

WCW Souled Out 2000 1/16/00 – Firstar Center in Cincinnati, Ohio
So to be honest, I don't remember much about WCW in 2000. I just know that it was bad. Real bad. But could it get worse than the SuperBrawl IX show that I reviewed from just under a year earlier? Looking at the card...yes it possibly can. Hopefully this show surprises me, but my hopes aren't too high. Two of the biggest stars that the WCW had, Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett, would miss this show. Bret took the infamous superkick from Goldberg that gave him the concussion, and WCW had him compete some after, causing post concussion syndrome. Bret's career was done. Jeff Jarrett and Chris Benoit were scheduled to wrestle three matches, yes three matches, on this show, but Jarrett also had a concussion. From what I've read, with WCW needing a new Champion, Vince Russo wanted Tank Abbott, who was a mid-carder. I don't know how true that is, but I hear he was sent home with pay, while others filled into book this show. As if that's not enough, the Radicalz and a few others asked for their releases before the show. Sheesh. So, this should be interesting at the very least.
I know Tony Schiavone gets a lot of flack, and rightfully so, but I have to give him credit for sounding excited all of the time for WCW. No matter how dire the card is. Billy Kidman will compete in “Triple Threat Theatre”. Kidman faces three guys, in three different matches. A Catch-as-Catch Can match, Bunkhouse Match and Caged Heat. Yes, those are the actual names. Also, DDP and Buff Bagwell will be competing in a Last Man Standing match with no referee. Don't know how that works.
Catch-as-Catch Can Match Billy Kidman vs. Dean Malenko The only difference in this match from a normal singles match, is that leaving the ring causes a disqualification. Good little start between two good wrestlers. Malenko shows off his strength advantage, while Kidman uses his speed. Kidman goes for a dropkick but Malenko holds the ropes and Kidman misses. Kidman rolls him over and punches him before Malenko rolls outside. But there is no disqualification called. Tony Schiavone calls for the DQ but Charles Robinson doesn't until he gets back in.
Winner via disqualification: Billy Kidman in 2:11 I don't know what that was. They never explained the rules to the live crowd so they're confused. Billy Kidman looks pissed because that obviously wasn't supposed to be the finish. This would be Dean's last match in WCW, I wonder if he killed it on purpose. DUD
It's like the WCW realized that David Flair was an awful wrestler, so they made him into an insane brawler. The best thing about the partnership between Flair and Crowbar was easily Daffney.
Crowbar vs. David Flair w/ Daffney vs. Vampiro I always thought that the character of Vampiro was cool. Brawl to kick things off as this is basically a handicap match. Vampire gets the upper hand and taunts. Flair is taken outside, leaving Crowbar to do most of the offense before Vampire kicks him outside. He throws Flair out again and hits a suicide dive before doing the Hogan taunt for some reason. Inside, Flair yells at Crowbar until Crowbar sits him in the corner and takes a spinning heel kick. Chops for Flair in the corner and he's thrown outside again. Double baseball slide that looked weak. Even with that, Crowbar and Flair take advantage, which means Crowbar does the work. He hits a splash from the apron. Inside, Flair and Vampire trade soft chops before Flair gets tossed out for the fourth or fifth time. Crowbar is just moving from spot to spot with a German suplex and front flip. Vampiro hits a release superplex but I don't know if that was how he meant it. Flair chokes Vampiro and then gets slammed onto him. Flair does his first wrestling move and it's a suplex. Vampiro and Crowbar earn “you ed up” chants by botching a powerbomb. Crowbar hits a splash off the top and David tries a figure four. He can't even do that right. IT SHOULD BE IN YOUR GENES! Crowbar splashes in and goes to cover but they argue. Even though Crowbar let David pin earlier. Whatever. Flair suplexes Crowbar and makes out with Daffney. She tries to intervene but gets splashed by Flair by mistake. She's able to exit calmly and watch as Vampiro pins David.
Winner: Vampiro in 10:31 Holy crap that was bad. No story at all, just sloppy spot after sloppy spot. It was like, a game of one downing each other. DUD
I just would like to point out that the WCW Pay-Per-View that I reviewed before this was SuperBrawl IX. Going back to the last three matches on that show and the first two here, that's FIVE straight WCW matches I've watched and exactly ZERO stars given out. FIVE STRAIGHT DUDS. Also, the match before this streak got half a star. Half a star in six matches.
Seeing ECW's Tony Mamaluke warms my heart. Big Vito and Johnny the Bull talk about how they're going to beat the Harris Brothers.
Big Vito & Johnny the Bull w/ Disco Inferno vs. The Harris Brothers It's Jacob and Eli Blu! No, it's Creative Control! Or is it the Disciples of Apocalypse? I have no clue which Harris brother is which. Ron or Don works over Johnny the Bull. Johnny knocks Jacob or Eli outside. Vito stars kicking Ron and I only know that it's Ron because of Tony Schiavone. The crowd doesn't seem to care about this and neither do I. They mention that Disco Inferno doesn't want to really be at ringside. One half of Creative Control hits a big side slam on Johnny. Mike Tenay: “Which Harris Brother is this?”. Bobby Heenan: “The one with no hair.” Oh, Brain how I love you. Jacob Blu applies a chin lock but Johnny fights out and hits a clothesline. It goes nowhere as he takes a spinebuster right after. Tag to the other Harris, who loses a fist fight so he decided to use a low blow that the referee ignores. Multiple elbows before a tag to Eli Blu, who eats a clothesline. “Boring” chants start and rightfully so. Now, we get a “DOA” chant. Skull tries a pin but Vito breaks it up, leading to Chainz or 8-Ball nailing him. Disco does nothing to help but he then shoved Vito off the top and onto the Harris Brothers as he gets the win that Disco didn't want. Also, Vito never got the tag to be the legal man.
Winners: Big Vito & Johnny the Bull in 9:32 WCW has wasted 45 or so minutes of Pay-Per-View time. This was so boring it hurt. But, it was better than the previous match so it gets a better rating. 1/2*
WCW has now earned a valiant 1 star in seven matches.
WCW Cruiserweight Championship Oklahoma vs. Madusa w/ Spice Oh my goodness. Holy god this is going to be bad. He runs down the crowd and says that men are the superior species. He's also doing his awful Jim Ross impersonation. Madusa comes out in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey. It's a former Cincinnati Bengal. You're not playing to the home crowd right Alundra. This is dreadful. He hits three snapmares and runs out of breath. Madusa struggles and hits an awful looking missile dropkick before hitting a better one. Also, I have no clue as to why Spice is out there. Madusa then whiffs on a regular dropkick. Oklahoma nails a DDT and goes for his BBQ sauce. Spice steals it when giant Asya attacks him and there's no DQ. Oklahoma goes back in and, even with the interference, rolls up Madusa and wins.
Winner: Oklahoma in 2:56 That was one of the worst things that I've ever seen. Never mind that he's like 40 pounds over the weight limit for the belt, every single thing about this was god awful. There is, literally, no words for how disastrous that was. DUD
MEAN BAH GAWD GENE is interviewing the Hardcore Champion Brian Knobbs. He says that Finlay was his mentor and that's about it.
WCW Hardcore Championship Brian Knobbs (c) vs. Fit Finlay vs. Norman Smiley vs. Meng SCREAMING NORMAN F'N SMILEY is out in riot gear. Seriously, if Smiley doesn't win I riot. Finlay is sporting Dudley camo attire so he'll be Finlay Dudley for the duration of this match. Knobbs is dressed like that too actually. So, Nasty Dudley and Finlay Dudley team up instantly and this is basically a tag team match. Smiley and Knobbs botch an easy move outside before Meng chops Smiley and he screams. Smiley takes a beating from the new Dudleys. Meng no sells some chair shots to the head because he's Samoan and that's wrestling rule number 12. Finlay Dudley puts on the riot helmet and headbutts Smiley, though it would've been better if he tried it on Meng. Bobby Heenan calls this the best hardcore match he's ever seen. If that's true, the quality of WCW hardcore matches must be the worst. Knobbs is down in the ring so Smiley gets near with the riot shield. Big Wiggle gets a pop from the crowd as he climbs to the top. He leaps off and is met with a shot from the riot shield to finish this.
Winner and Still Hardcore Champion: Brian Knobbs in 6:10 This wasn't very good. There were times when guys were just standing around. However, due to the quality of the show so far, it's match of the night for now. 3/4*
Bunkhouse Match Billy Kidman vs. Perry Saturn Just like Malenko earlier, this would prove to be Saturn's last WCW match. Kidman tries a hip toss but gets a clothesline instead and Saturn hits a gorilla press slam. Kidman hits the ropes and snaps off a flying head scissors and dropkick. Kidman reels off ten punches in the corner but then messes up on a clothesline. Saturn slows the pace down and eventually goes for a suplex that gets countered into a rollup for two. Saturn hits a clothesline and a decent looking springboard leg drop. Saturn rips Kidman's tank top and chops him. I forgot that this was supposed to be a Bunkhouse match, which is just a hardcore match. Don't think this should've gone on right after a Hardcore Title match. They bring a table into play, but it's not used as Kidman gets off of it and hits another head scissors. Saturn hits the big elbow but only gets two. The crowd is pretty dead as the terrible first five matches killed them. Kidman reverses a powerbomb, but ends up taking one anyway for two. Saturn misses a moonsault, allowing Kidman to his Stratusfaction and Sky High for two. Kidman goes for a second bulldog, but gets it countered into a belly to belly that sends him outside and through a table. The crowd is a bit into it now. Kidman somehow kicks out of that. Saturn wastes time posing so Kidman is able to hit an odd looking back drop off the top. He reverses a powerbomb into a facebuster and wins.
Winner: Billy Kidman in 10:03 Okay, new match of the night, but it still wasn't very good. It was a Bunkhouse match that had one weapon used and it was only used once. *3/4
There's still six matches? Are you serious? They show video of Stevie Ray going “back to the hood”. This is exactly how Tony Schiavone announces it.
Booker T w/ Midnight vs. Stevie Ray The crowd is raising the roof for Booker. His attire is atrocious. WCW named the black girl that Booker had with him Midnight. Yup. They have the same theme song too. Booker sends Midnight backstage and beats on Stevie. He connects with the Axe Kick, causing Stevie to try and regroup outside but Booker follows. Stevie hits a big clothesline that Booker oversells. Booker continues to sell Stevie's offense like it kills him. See, he's a good brother, he's making Stevie look tough. You can kind of hear Booker telling Stevie what to do. Stevie hits a powerslam and its REST HOLD TIME! Stevie nails a back body drop shortly after and taunts to the dead crowd. Booker reverses a move but takes a double axe handle. Booker reverses a whip and kicks his brother a few times. Scissors Kick and spinaroonie! Instead of going for the pin, he wins a slow series of reversals and hits the Book End. Fat Ahmed Johnson runs out and knocks him out for the DQ.
Winner via disqualification: Booker T in 6:28 This was bad. Stevie Ray is terrible and it showed here. Another bad match. 1/2*
Midnight rushes out but is afraid to enter. This lets Stevie and Ahmed hit their sloppy finishers as the crowd chants “Ahmed”. Stevie introduces him at Big T because they're the new Harlem Heat.
MEAN BAH GAWD GENE interviews Sid. This should be good. But wait, he keeps it together and it wasn't bad.
Jerry Fylnn vs. Tank Abbott Kill me now. Who the hell thought this should be on Pay-Per-View? Flynn gets absolutely no reaction. They barely fight in the corner before trying to fight in the middle. Flynn tries an armbar but Tank blocks it and gets in some body shots. He tries a leg lock, but Flynn stops it and gets in another armbar. Tank picks him up and bombs him down. He whiffs on two punches and Flynn is “knocked out”. Mike Tenay says there's a ten count, but the ref does three arm raises and it's over.
Winner: Tank Abbott in 1:38 What was the point of this? Crap. Tank missed both knockout punches and it looked like crap. And again, WCW commentators and referees mix up the rules. DUD
Last Man Standing Buff Bagwell vs. Diamond Dallas Page So this is because DDP thinks Buff is banging Kimberly. They have a fist fight to start before brawling into the crowd. Back inside DDP hits a neckbreaker. They sold this as “no referee” but there is one, he's just outside. DDP continues to dominate things in the ring and a clothesline takes both men out. Bobby Heenan seriously gives zero craps about this show. They brawl up to the WCW.com station so I have to see Mark Madden. They pick up the god awful looking computer monitors and hit them into each other. Buff connects with an elbow through the table but the camera doesn't catch it and Schiavone reacts like Mick Foley got thrown off the Hell in a Cell. He also asks why the ref isn't counting, so there's that disconnect again. DDP is up, because the spot wasn't that great, and Schiavone is all “I thought he was dead.” In the ring, Buff nails a low blow. Buff taunts so DDP levels him and crotches him on the post. Buff hits a splash from out of nowhere and the ref finally counts. They get up at 8 and 9 respectively before Buff hits a DDT. Another near ending. Buff, who plays to the crowd, hits the Blockbuster but DDP gets up. Buff pulls out a riot baton and beats on DDP with it. DDP gets up at 9 and hits the Diamond Cutter. He doesn't get it completely though and Buff is up first to win.
Winner: Buff Bagwell in 11:38 So Buff wins by taking a Diamond Cutter. Dumbest ending to a Last Man Standing Match ever. *
Kimberly is out and Buff tries to talk to her so DDP beats on him with the riot baton. Kim and DDP leave together but she's not happy.
Caged Heat Billy Kidman vs. The Wall w/ Shane Douglas So this is WCW's first Caged Heat match. It's a steel cage with a roof, which makes it a Hell in a Cell. This would be like the WWF making their first HIAC between Owen Hart and Faarooq instead of Undertaker and HBK. Shane Douglas introduces his mystery final person from the Revolution as the Wall. Yay. Kidman didn't get a new shirt after Saturn ripped it up. Kidman beats on Wall with a chair before he no sells and punches it into his face. Wall hits a big boot in the ring but the crowd could seriously not be more dead. Wall slams Kidman into the cage a few times, with the second one actually looking impressive. It's brutal to watch something where the crowd reacts to nothing. Wall dominates which isn't helping this crowd at all. He goes for a chokeslam, but Kidman counters into a hurricanrana. He signals for the Shooting Star Press but the Wall is up and he catches a diving Kidman with a chokeslam to finish it.
Winner: The Wall in 5:03 This was WCW's attempt to steal HIAC from WWF? Even if it wasn't, this was poor. 1/4*
Hardcore Match to be WCW Commissioner Kevin Nash vs. Terry Funk Mike Tenay calls this a battle for the future, which has to be one of the most ironic things ever. I don't have high hopes here. We kick things off with Nash toying with Funk. Just a note, we've had a Bunkhouse match, a Hardcore Title match, Caged Heat, Last Man Standing and now this Hardcore match. Nash nails him with a chair and hits the Jacknife through the table within the few two minutes. Nash gets on the microphone and tells Funk that if he can crawl back in the ring, he'll let him stay as Commissioner. Funk makes it and Nash claims he was lying. No surprise. Nash continues to pound away while Funk bleeds like he's Ric Flair. Funk won't give up and he hits Nash with the chair twice. A DDT gets him two. Funks wails on Nash but he takes them like nothing and strikes Funk twice with the chair. Funk doesn't fall and no sells some gut shots with the chair. He sets up two open chairs but ends up taking the Jacknife onto both of them.
Winner: Kevin Nash in 7:59 Kevin Nash beat the hell out of Funk for eight minutes. Funk did like two moves and lost. Blah. 1/2*
Arn Anderson gets interviewed and talks about how bad it is for the company that Kevin Nash will be commissioner. I feel like the underlying point was that WCW was in trouble as a company. Non kayfabe wise.
WCW World Heavyweight Championship Chris Benoit vs. Sid Vicious Of course, this was Chris Benoit's final WCW match just like it was for Saturn and Malenko. Slow start and Sid uses his power to gain the upper hand. He helps Benoit up as Saturn and David Flair come to the entrance to watch this HISTORIC match. Even though David Flair is supposed to be insane. Sid clotheslines Benoit outside. Sid continues to toss Benoit around to “Sid” chants. Benoit wisely goes to the knee and starts to target it. He dropkicks the steel steps into the leg in a nice spot. Figure four is applied but Sid is so strong that he turns it over and Benoit gets to the ropes. According to Schiavone, this “sold out” crowd is on “their feet”. They're not. Benoit works the leg some more every single time that Sid tries to fight back. Indian deathlock time which I appreciate. Benoit breaks the hold for no real reason. Sid starts to fight through the pain but Benoit knocks him back down. Sid gets a near fall before going back into a submission. Sid fights out but Benoit hits the diving head butt. Sid powers out of the cover very hard. He pulls out a chokeslam but Benoit gets his foot under the ropes. Benoit now puts on the Crossface and Sid taps instantly.
Winner and New WCW World Heavyweight Champion: Chris Benoit in 14:59 They built up Sid “never giving up” the whole match and he taps instantly. Sid's foot was under the bottom rope because WCW can't have a clean finish. The match was slow and boring. *
Overall: 0/10; Why? As in why would WCW put on a show this bad. 12 matches and not one can get to two stars. Nothing on this card is redeemable and it's the worst Pay-Per-View that I've ever seen. Seriously, every single thing on this show is bad and most of it doesn't make sense. Next on “Random Network Reviews” is Anarchy Rulz '99

Good reviews, Kev. I always enjoyed WM X8. I thought it was a really good show.
I have never seen a WCW PPV from 2000-2001 and probably never will.

WWF Summerslam 2000 August 27, 2000 at the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. Summerslam 2000: Right to Censor def. Too Cool and Rikishi. This is the RTC's first pay per view match since they made their debut, they had recruited Bull Buchanan who was doing nothing at the time and The Godfather, who abandoned his ho's to set a better example, two ho's accompany the faces to the ring, one of which is Victoria who RTC had put through a table a few weeks prior. The heels didn't like how Rikishi paraded his ass and shoved it into other peoples' faces so they took action by beating up their opponents on RAW two weeks before this show. The match was nothing special, crowd chant save the ho's and Godfather beats up the two at ringside, Steven Richards manages a nice superkick on Scotty 2 Hotty to get the win, the announcers describe it as an upset. 1 star. X-Pac def. Road Dogg. Both guys thought they were a better singles wrestler than the other, so a serious of matches took place, with each wrestler trying to show up the other, it resulted in the two losing a match on RAW to the Dudley Boyz and X-Pac headbutted Road Dogg off the apron and on to a table on the outside in anger of the loss. The feud intensified when the team lost a match for the tag team titles to Edge & Christian and when Dogg walked out on Pac during a match with The Undertaker. The match however is pretty poor, usual ''X-Pac sucks'' and also ''boring'' chants before Waltman picks up the win when he low blows his opponent in full view of referee Tim White who turns away after it happens as the X factor gets the three. The winner attempts to make up after the match saying how ''the better man won'' but is met with a Pumphandle Drop. 0.5 Stars. Chyna and Eddie Guerrero def. Trish Stratus and Val Venis (c). Intercontinental Championship mixed tag team match. First off, Val Venis is absolutely terrible in the gimmick he had at this time, he had lost all his identity, he has dropped the pornstar gimmick, is wearing bland white trunks, cut his hair, doesn't come out with a towl, doesn't say ''Hello ladies'' and has dropped his testosterone filled ''sexy'' voice. His run as IC champ during this time, definitely hurt the title. The stipulation here was that if Venis or Trish got pinned, Val would lose the title and whoever got the three from the opposing team would win the belt. The feud stemmed from Chyna wanting to get her hands on Stratus after the Ninth Wonder of the World was hit with a glass pitcher on Smackdown two weeks prior. Another pretty bad match, highlight is when the women finally get in and Chyna gets the victory after a military press on Trish to become champ. 0.5 Stars. We get a recap of Radio WWF (which I didn't know was ever a thing), at WWF New York hosted by Michael Cole, it looks pretty entertaining as Mick Foley dances with Too Cool and The Rock sings the Smackdown Hotel song, which for old time sake I'm going to sing right now: ''Oh well since The Rock's baby left him, he finds a new place to dwell, it's down at the end of Jabroni Drive at the SmackDown Hotel.'' Hahah! Anyway on to the next match. Jerry Lawler def. Tazz. The wrestler going after the commentator storyline is definitely one of the biggest forms of cheap heat, probably only behind making fun of the cities' sports teams' but we'll get to that later. Though Tazz actually does a pretty good job here, probably one of the best of these type of storylines definitely better then those that came after. He had come back from injury as a heel and began to beat people up with televison cameras and the usual of choking them out. JR had made this known on commentary saying how much of a thug and overachiever the human suplex machine was. The Brooklyn native didn't take kindly to this and began to taunt Jim Ross about his Bells Palsy etc. Ross actually hit him a couple times before Lawler stepped in. Over the coming weeks Jerry and ''suplex king'' brawled, notably with King getting busted open after being hit with a solid steel pitcher. But probably the most dastardly act was what happened on Smackdown three days before this event as Tazz held JR hostage in Lawler's rental car, the thug life street thug would end up smashing the window of the vehicle as the glass left the boomer sooner with a busted eye. The heel mocks the Oklahoman during his entrance as he wears a cowboy hat and acts as if he is blind in relation to Jim's busted eye. Clean enough match to start as the crowd chant ''Jerry', didn't like Tazz no selling the piledriver though. As referee Teddy Long is down, King is getting choked out, JR gets involved and smashes a glass jar across the head of the man from the Red Hook Section which gets a big pop. That gets Lawler the three. Nice finish as the orange one is cut open. A good match and story, I enjoyed it. 2 Stars. Things finally starting to get good? Steve Blackman def. Shane McMahon (c). Hardcore Championship. Shane had been put into a match for the title against champion Blackman by Comissioner Foley on RAW, he won thanks to lots of help from Edge, Christian, Test and Albert. Upon hearing he had to fight Steve in a rematch at this pay per view, he tried taking advantage of the 24/7 rule and losing the belt but Mick suspended that ruling until after this match. The lethal weapon offers McMahon a free shot at him with the kendo stick to start but the champ throws it back as we get ''Shane's a ****'' chants. Some cat and mouse chasing before Blackman gets his hands on McMahon in the crowd. As expected Shane gets absolutely battered with trash cans, trash can lids, kendo sticks, a leather strap before Test and Albert help him out. Steve gets the upper hand as McMahon runs and climbs to the top of the staging structure next to the tron, looks like there is actually fans seated behind the area where the stage is, not sure if they are fans but if they are man that's sad. Anyway Blackman hits him with the kendo stick as Shane falls off the platform and down to the floor for one of the Attitude Era's most defining spots. Blackman jumps off a little bit lower from where the champ fell, completely misses him though but that gets the three. Entertaining match with the two notable high spots. 2.5 Stars. Chris Benoit def. Chris Jericho. 2 out of three falls. After the series of really good matches these two had at Backlash and Judgement Day, they put on another top quality match here. Story comes from Benoit beating the hell of Jericho on Smackdown some weeks prior, Y2J returned wanting to beat the hell out of Chris, after lots of brawling on RAW and Smackdown they fight here on pay per view. Not going to lie, all of these guys matches together are sensational, no wonder why they wrestled so many pay per views, they can't have a bad match and this is no different. Benoit works over the left shoulder of Jericho who had injured it on Smackdown, and wins the first fall with a crossface. Second fall begins with Benoit putting his opponent straight back in the move, but Chris gets to the ropes. The 9 time Intercontinental Champion wins the second fall with the Walls of Jericho to tie the match 1-1. So it's all down to the third fall in which Benoit gets the win after a roll up sequence as he holds onto the ropes for leverage to win. It's not the end of these twos feud and series of matches, but this one was really good. Good psychology, selling, wrestling and entertainment. I'll give this 3 stars. Edge & Christian (c) def. The Hardy Boyz and The Dudley Boyz. TLC match for the Tag Team Championship. Edge & Christian had debuted their new move the 'Concerto' which was where the two would both have chairs in hand and hit a wrestler in the skull with both. They did well to put over this move in the build up to this match as both Jeff Hardy and Bubba Ray Dudley had suffered injuries because of it. You had the speciality weapon of each team involved in the stipulation: Tables (The Dudleyz), ladders (Hardy Boyz) and chairs (Edge & Christian). Tables and ladders and chairs oh my! Lets get into the match. Big pop for the home town Hardys. Sea saw ladder spot to Matt and Jeff looks nasty as Jeff lands back first on the ladder. Before that we got some cool moves like Russian Leg Sweep by Edge from the ladder and Bubba Bom on Christian also from the ladder. Matt throws Christian from the top rope on to Edge who is in between a ladder. Jeff misses the Swanton from the ladder onto to a table on the outside as Bubba moved. Famous spot as Bubba is climbing the ladder, the champions push him off and he falls onto 4 tables. As the heels are climbing the ladder, Lita runs in and pushes them off as they land crotched on the ropes. As Matt is going up, he is pushed off by D-Von and lands back first into some other tables on the outside. As Lita is checking on him, she gets a nasty spear from Edge. As D-Von and Jeff fight on top of the ladder for the titles, the ladder falls out from underneath them, so they dangle from the belts and fight while there, D-Von falls off and E & C hit Hardy off with a ladder and that get's them the win. This TLC match is sandwiched in between the two at Wrestlemania and to be fair it isn't as good as either, but still awesome. Every guy even Lita does something cool in this but I do feel this was a perfect opportunity for the Hardyz to win in their home town but the heels retaining also worked. 3.5 Stars for this match. The Kat def. Terri. Stink Face match. After some good matches, the show is brought down a bit as this match takes place. Instead of a European Championship on the line we got this instead. I give their match at Wrestlemania a DUD same as this one. Kane vs Undertaker fought to a no contest, Taker removes his Brothers mask as the big red machine runs to the back while hiding his face. By the way, this is the debut of my favourite Kane attire the sleeveless vest. The match itself is just a brawl of Under trying to take off the mask, there is chairshots, steps etc. 1.5 Stars. The Rock def. Kurt Angle and Triple H. WWF Championship. The storyline with Kurt Angle and Stephanie McMahon being more than friends was already underway here, they hugged, talked and even kissed before this match happened. After a double pinfall in a number one contenders match on Chris Jericho by Kurt and HHH, commissioner Foley announced Rock would defend his title against both the heels who already had been feuding at this point, just when it looked like they were able to join forces and be friends, Angle would get caught in a position with Steph culminating in the two finally kissing on the previous Thursdays Smackdown. The two heels both wanted the WWF Championship also, so further tension came about. Hunter and Steph's marriage had been on rocky ground ever since Trips was caught showing wrestling moves to Trish, so the olympic gold medalist getting involved made it even worse. Angle and HHH brawl to start before The Rock enters to a big pop. Famous blown spot where Helmsley tries to give Kurt a Pedrigree on the Spanish announce table but it gives way before he can perform the move. After this Rock and Paul work for a bit, as it looks like Kurt is getting stretchered off, HHH brings him back and beats on him before Rock comes back to fight. Eventually Angle is brought to the back as Steph looks on, she goes down to the ring and attempts to hit Dwayne with the title belt but instead hits her husband. Steph brings Angle back out to apparently help Hunter but Kurt breaks up a pin after a Pedrigree and fights the Game, Triple H ends up eating Stephanie after Kurt moved. He is then hit with a sledgehammer after checking on his wife. Rock gets the pin after dumping Kurt out of the ring and then the Peoples Elbow on Triple. Angle helps McMahon to the back as the show goes off the air. Awesome entertaining main event. 3 Stars. This show started off pretty bad, then got really good after a short break before the main event which ended in awesome style. I give this pay per view a good 6.5/10, brought down by the opening few matches it picked up really well and finished a high note.

Backlash 2002 April 21st, 2002 – Kemper Memorial Arena in Kansas City, Missouri
Coming off of WrestleMania X8 the WWF held a Draft. Raw and Smackdown would be split because Ric Flair and Vince McMahon's egos were too big. Triple H, being the new Undisputed Champion was exempt as he would defend the belt against both shows. The fans wanted Hulkamania and it was running wild as red and yellow was back and in the title match at this show. This is the first Pay-Per-View after the Draft and both shows were represented as the Brand Exclusive Pay-Per-Views didn't start for about another year.
We get a nice video package where Hulk Hogan talks about how the crowd led him back to being Hulkamania Hogan instead of Hollywood while Triple H says that he loves seeing Hogan back but it's sad because he's going to have to kill some of childhood and beat Hogan tonight. It's basically the “best of all time” against the “best right now”. Solid stuff.
WWF Cruiserweight Championship Billy Kidman (c) vs. Tajiri w/ Torrie Wilson Torrie Wilson was with Tajiri on TV, but with Billy Kidman in real life. Kidman still has his great WCW theme. Torrie is dressed in a kimono because Tajiri was being a controlling boyfriend. Shoving match to start and Tajiri kicks up once he goes down. Quick offense that goes too fast to report it all, but it's a good start. An arm drag takes Tajiri into the corner. He blocks a hurricanrana and goes for a slingshot, but Kidman lands on the second rope and gets a dropkick. A “Torrie” chant starts. Tajiri hits a nice spot on the guardrail before going back in. With Kidman draped on the bottom rope, Tajiri hits a stiff kick and applies a headlock inside. The crowd is really into this for it being a Cruiserweight Title match. Kidman fights out and snaps off a hurricanrana before taking a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Kidman gets hung up in the tree of (Joey Lawrence) woe for a baseball slide. Backbreaker from Tajiri that he holds onto for a submission. Bill breaks out but Tajiri is still in control. TARANTULA! Tajiri goes for the handspring elbow but Kidman dropkicks him in the back of the head to a nice pop. The Japanese Buzzsaw reverses a back drop and hits a spinning heel kick. He gets a German with a beautiful bridge for two. He ducks a clothesline and nearly kicks Kidman's head off. Kidman does his favorite spot by countering the powerbomb into a facebuster. He misses the Shooting Star Press and gets buzzsaw kicked but kicks out. Everyone is into this as a “Kidman” chant starts. Up top, Kidman hits a powerbomb variation for a near fall. Kidman goes for a powerbomb but gets sprayed with red mist and Tajiri wins.
Winner and New Cruiserweight Champion: Tajiri in 9:08 Kidman and Tajiri were like “we're gonna try and steal the show” and they might have. Really good opener that the crowd was very hot for. It's a shame what happened to this division. ***3/4
Michael Cole tries to interview Tajiri like an idiot. He doesn't speak English. This has been established. Backstage, the APA meet up and miss each other since they were split. The nWo theme hits as Bradshaw faces a member next.
Bradshaw vs. Scott Hall w/ X-Pac Scott Hall goes from facing Steve Austin at WrestleMania, albeit in the mid-card, to facing Bradshaw. X-Pac is wearing Kane's mask. They try to surround Bradshaw, which brings out Faarooq to back him up. Their reunion after just two weeks apart gets a good reaction. Hall throws his toothpick at Bradshaw and gets lit up by the Texan for it. Bradshaw gets sent off the ropes and hits a big club to the back. “X-Pac sucks” chants. Hall rolls outside but bumps into Faarooq, who lays him out in front of the referee, but there's no DQ or ejection. Lawler wisely calls JR out for not saying anything about Faarooq cheating and JR ignores it. More punches from Bradshaw until Hall gets a thumb to the eyes. More slugging from both men and Hall hits a clothesline in the corner. Hall pounds away on Bradshaw in the corner, but he comes out with a shoulder block. Big clothesline from Bradshaw in the corner before the Clothesline from Hell. X-Pac puts Hall's foot on the bottom rope and Faarooq chases him around the ring. The distraction lets Hall get a low blow and rollup with a handful of tights.
Winner: Scott Hall in 5:45 So many punches and kicks in this match and the nWo looked weak. It's what I expected though. *
Vince McMahon is power walking in the back as he barges into Ric Flair's office. DOUBLE A IS THERE! Vince wants to know why Flair decided to referee the Austin/Undertaker match later tonight. It's rather useless
Women's Championship Jazz (c) vs. Trish Stratus Molly Holly, who lost a number one contender's match to Trish Stratus, comes to ringside. Molly was gold in her “wholesome” gimmick. Molly levels Trish, throws her out of the ring and into the steps. Jazz arrives and is all like “I'll take it.” She hits a side slam inside for two. Jazz hits the Green Bay Plunge and shouts at Trish. They do a nice leap frog/roll spot and Trish hits the Chick Kick with the left leg for two. Trish sets Jazz up on the top but gets pushed off and does her handstand hurricanrana. Multiple clotheslines and neckbreaker gets her a near fall. She takes a kick to the face and a sitout powerbomb but kicks out. The Champion misses a splash and Trish rolls her up for two. Stratusfaction gets reversed into a back suplex for two. Lots of near falls for a short Divas match. Jazz does a dragon screw and puts on a Boston crab. She gets near the ropes, but is pulled away. Jazz changes to an STF that looks A MILLION TIMES BETTER THAN JOHN CENAS. Trish is forced to tap.
Winner and Still Women's Champion: Jazz in 4:27 Good little women's match. Jazz was doing good as the dominant chick in the division and Trish has improved leaps and bounds since her first title just six months earlier. **
Video is shown of Paul Heyman being incredibly creepy with Lita and sniffing her panties. Heyman tried to bribe her for Matt Hardy's safety. She refused him of course, so Brock Lesnar basically kills Matt with an F-5 on the stage.
Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman vs. Jeff Hardy w/ Lita Brock doesn't have his theme yet so it's some generic stuff. This is Brock's first match and Jeff starts by attacking him before the bell. It doesn't faze Brock who sends him outside. He followed and Jeff dropkicks him off the apron before sending him into the post. Jeff nails a cross body for two, so Brock gets mad and destroys him with shoulder thrusts. Brock throws Jeff like he's Hornswoggle. Three backbreakers in a row and the crowd is kind of in awe at Brock. Jeff is selling like he's being broken in half. Heyman keeps yelling that it's all Lita's fault. Jeff fights back but it's a futile effort. Jeff breaks out whisper in the wind and hits a jawbreaker that Brock sells well. Jeff connects with the Swanton and people believed it was over, but Brock powers out at two. Jeff gets a chair but Brock ducks, lifts him up and hits the F-5. Heyman says not to pin Jeff, to hurt him. Double powerbomb from Brock and the impact is insane. More powerbombs from Brock as Teddy Long calls for the bell.
Winner: Brock Lesnar in 5:32 Brock beat the hell out of Jeff Hardy here but that's what it was supposed to be. Jeff getting a near fall was a nice touch but it was never in doubt. **1/2
A video package airs for the upcoming match where Kurt Angle talks about being better than anyone on any roster. Then he lost to Edge and started to target him. This was the feud where Edge brings out the old photos of Kurt with the writing on the back. Great stuff.
Edge vs. Kurt Angle Angle sporting white boots looks awesome. Shoulder block takes Edge down before Edge reels off some shots. Big elbow from Angle but then he gets dropkicked and flapjacked. Edge uses Angle's momentum to throw him out of the ring. Back inside Edge hits a spinning heel kick but gets German suplexed out of his boots nearly. It baffles me that Kurt was stuck in the upper mid-card until late 2002. Edge tries to get momentum but Angle comes at him with a belly to belly for two. Vertical suplex from Angle and then it's rest hold time. They do the raise the arm three times spot, which I like and Edge fights out. It's useless as he then takes a German. Angle goes for another but Edge fights out and hits a belly to belly of his own! Flying forearm from Edge and a back body drop as the crowd is firmly behind him. Sitout DDT nets him a two. Facebuster earns Edge another near fall. Edge climbs to the top but Angle quickly runs up and belly to belly suplexes him off which gets a near fall. Rolling Germans get Angle two and he sets up for the Angle Slam. Edge gets out and drops Angle on his head with a German. Not good. Both men are slow to their feet but Angle charges Edge, who back body drops him to the outside. Diving cross body to the outside and both guys are hurt again. Missile dropkick back inside but Edge can't earn the three. He now calls for his finisher but Angle counters and gets the Angle Slam! Edge kicks out and Angle is pissed. Ankle Lock time and Edge is in the middle of the ring. He gets close but is pulled away, so he rolls through into a pin for a very close two. Angle grabs a chair but misses, it rebounds off the top and he hits himself. Edge-o-matic follows and somehow only gets a near fall. Edge calls for the Spear but Angle kicks him in the face and a second Angle Slam finishes him off.
Winner: Kurt Angle in 13:26 Great match and the first that really made people realize that Edge was the future. Kurt Angle continues to just put on really good matches and this was one of my favorite feuds of 2002. ****1/4
Chris Jericho, who was just the Undisputed Champion, comes out to complain that he's not on the show. That's good booking. He's so mad that he is leaving. Cutting to the back, Ric Flair and Arn Anderson are backstage discussing the Number One Contender's match when The Undertaker shows up and stares him down. That's all he does. Intimidation, like in the Little Giants.
Intercontinental Championship Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Eddie Guerrero Ah, it's been a while since I've been able to review some Eddie Guerrero. Part of this feud is that in Eddie's mind, RVD stole the Frog Splash from him. JR informs Lawler that the first guy in the WWF to use the Frog Splash was, in fact, D-Lo Brown. Quick start and RVD has to taunt. Big monkey flip followed by a spinning heel kick gets RVD two. Eddie blocks a kick and we get a gross looking dragon screw. They trade offense for a bit with RVD botching a floatover suplex. He then blocks a superplex and brings Eddie down on the top rope. The ridiculous cartwheel moonsault earns him a near fall. Small package from Eddie but no win. Eddie reverses a suplex into another rollup for two. Baseball slide sends Eddie to the rail and RVD hits a moonsault off the apron. Spinning leg drop is next as Eddie has barely had an offense. But he uses defense to block Rolling Thunder and get in the driver's seat. “Mullet” chants from this capacity crowd. Latino Heat locks on a surfboard stretch as he gets RVD bent in weird ways. GORY STRETCH! RVD doesn't tap so he takes a slingshot senton before Eddie shows off his athleticism with a hurricanrana. BRAINBUSTAAA! Only gets two so he goes for the Frog Splash, but RVD kicks him to stop. He goes for a superplex but Eddie counters with a sunset flip bomb that might have killed RVD. But it only earns him two. After getting kicked, Eddie gets the belt, but RVD snatches it form him and hits the referee by mistake. Neckbreaker on the belt and Frog Splash allows a new Champion.
Winner and New Intercontinental Champion: Eddie Guerrero in 11:42 Two really good performers put on a good match. It wasn't as good as the Ladder match they would have after this, but still good. Eddie can still go. ***1/4
Number One Contender's Match “Stone Cold” Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker Two of the greatest of all time, who had some pretty disappointing matches against each other. I can remember two that I liked and that was SummerSlam 1998 and A Cold Day in Hell. A whole lot of nothing happens for the first five or so minutes. Seriously. Things then get taken into the crowd where they do what they do best and they brawl for a while. For some odd reason, the nWo arrive on the scene. Undertaker tosses Austin into the steel steps and he hurts his leg. This allows Taker to target the leg for a while. We get some slow offense as REST HOLD TIME hits and we get a leg lock and chinlock from the Deadman. Taker goes from the leg to other body parts which is weird. Austin fights back to wake up the crowd but eats a flying clothesline for two. After a double clothesline, Austin stomps a mudhole as the crowd chants “what” with each kick. Flair gets knocked out by accident just before Austin hits the Stunner. Of course the timing is perfect. Low blow from Booger Red and a Chokeslam as Flair gets to his feet. Flair is counting pretty slow, but it's consistent. Taker gets a chair but as Flair disarms him, Austin goes low. Taker no sells that and hits a big boot for two. Taker blocks another Stunner and Flair goes down again. Taker nails Austin with the chair for two. He signals for the Last Ride but it gets blocked. Austin tries to use Taker's dragon sleeper finisher but it gets stopped. Taker misses with the chair, though this makes no sense if he wants to earn a title shot. Mudhole gets stomped. Big boot into the chair gets the three even though Austin gets his foot on the rope.
Winner: The Undertaker in 27:00 Who the hell thought this should go nearly a half hour? The brawling parts were good but the wrestling was rough. That was not a strong point of Taker's game at this point of his career. **
Austin is in sore loser mode as he hits Undertaker with a Stunner. In the back, Jonathan Coachman shows Ric Flair Austin's foot being on the ropes and Flair is all like “aww shit”
WWF Tag Team Championship Billy & Chuck (c) w/ Rico vs. Al Snow & Maven Oh, the poor tag team division. Billy and Chuck beat on Maven because, well, he's Maven. “Rico's gay” chants break out. Maven pulls an enziguri from his small bag of tricks and tags his trainer. Al Snow comes in to no pop and takes down both of the Champions. Double team effort puts the Champs back in control. Now Snow is the good guy in trouble as the champs work him over with some boring offense. Billy misses a splash in the corner and Snow drop toe holds Chuck into Billy's crotch. Because they're gay. That's the joke. Maven gets the “hot” tag but ends up getting hit with a Fameasser. Snow pulls Maven out to break the count but eats a superkick. Rico tries to interfere but fails as he hits Chuck. Maven gets a near fall with a cross body but takes a superkick and that's all.
Winners and Still WWF Tag Team Champions: Billy and Chuck in 6:02 Boring and senseless. There were hot tags that went nowhere and failed interference that went nowhere. Weird match. 3/4*
WWF Undisputed Championship Triple H (c) vs. Hulk Hogan This was wisely billed as the “best of all-time” against the “best right now.” Hogan's WWE Network generic theme is terrible. The Undisputed Title design was one of my all-time favorites. HHH and Hogan trade battles of who is stronger as they shove each other. HHH heels up a bit when he yells at Hogan for listening to the fans. Test of strength comes with Hogan winning for a bit until HHH regains the advantage. Hogan comes back but eats an elbow from the champion before he applies a wrist lock. Ten punches from Hogan in the corner and then he backdrops Hunter over and out. They brawl outside for a bit and Hogan hits a suplex. HHH is back on the offensive as he whips Hogan into the corner hard. He goes for a Pedigree but Hogan counters and catapults him into the corner. Schoolboy gets Hogan two. Back to back clotheslines and Hogan has the balls to pull out a Diamond Cutter/Ace Crusher/RKO. I've never seen him do that. It earns him a near fall. HHH targets the knee a few times to boos from the fans. It was probably around here that HHH realized he needed to turn heel. We get leg work for the next like seven or eight minutes as this is slow as hell. Hunter applies a figure four and continues to be heel like as he uses the ropes for leverage. Hogan turns it over and HHH breaks it. And from that we go to Triple H putting on a sleeper hold. Do we really need a rest hold now? Hogan “Hulks Up” to break out of it and hits a back suplex. Chris Jericho shows up and lays out Hogan with a chair. HHH notices this and is a face again as he takes out Jericho. Time for more Hulking Up and the fans are pumped. He misses the leg drop and Triple H nails the Pedigree. The referee slowly goes to count but The Undertaker runs out and strikes him. Undertaker now levels Hunter with a chair and I have no idea why all of this is happening. I guess Taker is like “well, Hogan will be easier to beat.” Hogan doesn't want the help and takes out Undertaker. Then he wants the help and drops the leg to win.
Winner and New WWF Undisputed Champion: Hulk Hogan in 22:06 The fans go nuts even though this is the WWF doing what they used to mock WCW for doing and that's putting the belt on a guy like Hogan over their guy Triple H. Whatever. The match was boring but I have to commend Triple H for trying his best. *1/4
Overall: 6.5/10; Above Average. Before the final three matches, this had potential to be one of the better shows. The opener was awesome, Brock beat the hell out of Jeff Hardy, the Divas match was solid, Edge and Angle stole the steal and the Intercontinental Title match was very good. Then Austin and Undertaker had a disappointing brawl, and the final two matches were crap. If you ignore the final three matches, you get an awesome show.

Anarchy Rulz 9/19/99 – Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park, Illinois
ECW was on a pretty big high during this time in 1999. Not only were they being followed by their rabid fan base, but they had just scored a deal with The Nashville Network, which was becoming the National Network, to air ECW on Friday nights. While this would turn out to be much more harmful than helpful, at the time, it was a big deal. Also, ECW's World Heavyweight Champion, Taz, had just signed a deal with the WWF, while former ECW Champion Raven, had just returned from his WCW stint and won the Tag Team Titles with his all time rival, Tommy Dreamer. Also of note, this was the biggest crowd to ever watch an ECW event at just about 6,000 and was on the wwe.com List of 10 Surprising Shows on the WWE Network.
Masato Tanaka has a failed interview because he doesn't speak English. Jeff Jones interrupts and gets his head slammed on a car. Cyrus and Joey Styles welcome everyone to the show. Man, Cyrus could draw heat.
Jerry Lynn vs. Lance Storm w/ Dawn Marie Dawn Marie looks pretty hot tonight and gets announced as Lance Storm's “own personal bytch”, that's b-y-tch. The crowd is very hot which will help these matches. Really solid wrestling sequence starts things and the crowd appreciates that for sure. Chops in the corner from Jerry Lynn before they counters each other's moves on the apron until Lynn hits a springboard dropkick. More chops on the outside. Back inside Lynn gets a near fall with a crucifix and then hits a judo throw into a headlock. More counters from both guys until EDDIE GILBERT hot shot from Storm and Joey Styles actually mentions Gilbert. Bless him, Joey is great. Beautiful dropkick from Storm. Showing off his athleticism like he's RVD or something, Storm hits a cartwheel splash into the corner. Lynn gets a sunset flip for a near fall and goes for a German suplex but Storm blocks it with a low blow. Leg drop from Storm gets two. Hip toss reversals end with Storm outside as Lynn hits a splash off the top. Missile dropkick back in from Lynn gets a near fall. Jawbreaker from Storm leads to a fist fight and Lynn tosses Storm in the air and kicks him low as he comes down. Storm counters the cradle piledriver and we get a series of near falls that seemingly never ends. Bridging German also earns Lynn two and a standing ovation from the Chicago crowd. Reverse DDT gets another near fall for Lance as Dawn Marie tosses two chairs into the ring. He wedges one in between turnbuckles but is the one sent into it. He does manage to set Lynn up on the top, but Lynn gets a top rope sunset flip bomb for two as Dawn pulls the referee. Storm ducks a chair shot and goes for a powerbomb, but eats a DDT on the chair. Dawn Marie again gets involved by putting Storm's foot on the bottom rope. Backbreaker from Storm who is focusing on the back/ribs. Another series of reversals ends in a Stunner from Lynn for two. Hurricanrana from Lynn gets yet another near fall. That's got to be like, 30 two counts. A kitchen sink followed by a half nelson rollup earns Lance the three.
Winner: Lance Storm in 16:38 Really good opener with plenty of near falls. The ending was a bit anti-climatic but made sense. What didn't make sense was Jerry Lynn taking another loss. He could've used this win after dropping two straight PPVs to RVD. ****
Cyrus and Styles argue about the “office” that Cyrus keeps mentioning. Back in the ring, Simon Diamond has a problem. He needs a tag team partner and asks Tom Marquez, who is at ringside. He tells Tom to be his partner, but when he tries to, Simon didn't say “Simon Says” so he makes Tom sit down. He says no man wants to be his partner, so Jazz shows up so shut him up. Close enough to a dude right? According to Simon it is as he tells her to get her “flat chest and ghetto booty” out of here. She attacks and he sics Tom Marquez on her.
Jazz vs. Tom Marquez w/ Simon Diamond After the way Simon treated Tom, I don't know why he jumped in for this match. She goes for a cross body and he catches her before dancing and slamming her. He poses over her and she grabs a handful of crotch. Testicular claw is broken by a thumb to the eye but Jazz hits the Jazz Stinger to win.
Winner: Jazz in 0:58 Just used to get Jazz over, but it was lame. *
Simon attacks Jazz and he's randomly joined by Tony DeVito. Nova and Chris Chetti arrive and an ECW impromptu match begins
Chris Chetti and Nova vs. Simon Diamond and Tony DeVito Nova and Chetti use innovative offense to take the early control. They constantly try to put over how innovative Nova is and how his moves appear on Monday nights after he invents them. Snapmare on Simon but Tony goes low on Nova. Tony STOMPS A MUDHOLE in Nova in the corner. Sloppy powerbomb from DeVito before Simon comes in and hist the Three Amigos before it was cool. Chetti seems to be very hurt on the outside. Nova ducks a clothesline and they botch a uranagi but Tony does it again and gets it right. Roadkill and Danny Doring run out and attack Simon and Nova. A disqualification is called.
No Contest in 3:52 Nothing match that was probably hampered by Chris Chetti's injury. DUD
Doring and Roadkill continue the beating as Miss Congeniality is with them. Man, you could totally tell that Lita got implants. Roadkill was going to splash Jazz but jobbers show up to stop them. A brawl breaks out, which of course brings New Jack out. It's so hard to watch anything New Jack related on the WWE Network thanks to the god awful generic music. “In the ghetto, in the ghetto, in the ghetto” is all you hear. The brawl goes how you'd expect with New Jack and Nova beating on everyone. Angel takes a beating from Jack in a precursor to their feud the following year.
Three Way Dance Little Guido w/ Big Sal vs. Super Crazy vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri The FBI have some terrible generic music. Quick start as Guido and Tajiri go after Super Crazy's knees. Tajiri sends Guido onto the aisle hard. Flying head scissors from Tajiri sends Crazy outside but he comes back in with a springboard dropkick, only to eat a springboard cross body from Guido for two. Camel Clutch on Crazy and Tajiri dropkicks him in the face. He goes for it again and kicks Guido this time. Tajiri monkey flips Crazy into a clothesline from Guido. Crazy and Guido all brawl outside and both end up in the first row. Tajiri pulls out an Asai moonsault into the crowd and onto both men. Early on, this is like, the Tajiri show but Big Sal gets in the ring and slams him. A powerbomb in Crazy as well gives Guido the advantage. Top rope famasser on Tajiri, but Guido stupidly covers Crazy instead for two. German from Tajiri for two on Guido. Outside, he front suplexes Guido onto the guardrail and they fight into the crowd. Super Crazy now one ups Tajiri with a top rope Asai moonsault into the crowd on both guys. Back inside, he springboards dropkicks Big Sal off the apron and through a table. Super Crazy blocks a sunset flip, but Tajiri holds on and locks on the Tarantula, allowing Guido to dropkick Crazy. He's fine though as he puts Tajiri in a surfboard stretch and rolls around with it. He turns it into a dragon sleeper before turning it into a camel clutch. Guido joins and puts on the Sicilian Crab with it but no tap out. Unprettier from Guido gets two. Guido gets set up in the tree of woe, but avoids Crazy's dropkick, only to get kicks by Tajiri. Moonsault from Crazy eliminates Guido. “These foreigners are diabolical” says Cyrus in a great heel line. The foreigners counter each other for a while before Crazy gets a near fall with a moonsault. Ten punches in the corner while the crowd counts in Spanish. Handspring elbow from Tajiri gets a pop. Shortly after, Tajiri blocks a dragon sleeper but ends up taking a reverse tornado DDT for two. Crazy's moonsault combination is blocked and he gets two kicks to the head. Tajiri finishes with the BRAINBUSTAAA to win.
Winner: Yoshihiro Tajiri in 14:38 Pretty much just a spot fest, but it was a fun spot fest and that's all I wanted from these three. Good stuff. ***
Steve Corino, Rhino and Jack Victory are backstage. Corino says that he was going to bring in ICP to face Tommy Dreamer and Raven for the Tag Team Titles tonight. The ICP manager canceled because they knew they would lose. Himself and Rhino will challenge for the belts instead. Thank god.
Justin Credible w/ Jason vs. Sabu w/ Bill Alfonso Credible tried to weasel out of the match with a restraining order but there aren't rules tonight. BECAUSE ANARCHY RULZ! Sabu arrives and attacks Credible. Moonsault gets him two. They spill to the outside and Sabu throws him around for a while. Credible gets Sabu on a table on the aisle and splashes him through it. That gets him a near fall, but Sabu comes back with a dropkick and baseball slide. He springboards from a chair to the top and front flips onto Justin in the crowd. Sabu goes to put Credible through a table but he moves. Sabu hits a stupid guillotine leg drop as Credible had to literally hold himself in place for it. Sabu ends up putting him through a table anyway, before springboarding and hitting it again on the already broken table. Justin is busted open as Sabu applies a camel clutch and botches a leg drop. Distraction from Jason allows Justin to connect with a superkick. Justin now uses a camel clutch. A table gets set up in the corner as Justin dropkicks a chair into Sabu. Sabu botches another DDT for two. Stunner from Credible, who then sloppily puts Sabu through the table in the corner. Sabu gets back in control with a triple jump moonsault before a triple jump leg drop. Sabu counters That's Incredible but eats a Singapore cane shot from Jason. Alfonso enters and kicks Jason as Sabu kicks out. Someone slides in a chair that hits Sabu in the head. Multiple That's Incredible counters until Justin hits one on a chair for the 1-2-3.
Winner: Justin Credible in 14:06 Sloppy and, despite all of the table spots, kind of boring. I've never been a big fan of Sabu as he botches a lot and tonight was no different. *1/2
ECW World Heavyweight Championship Three Way Dance Taz (c) vs. Masato Tanaka vs. Mike Awesome w/ Judge Jeff Jones Fans knew Taz was leaving as he was greeted with “you sold out” chants, even though I can't blame him. His career was winding down and going to the WWF was the best choice. Jeff Jones is in the crowd with Mike Awesome and Taz challenges him to join the match. Tanaka and Awesome brawl once the bell rings because they hate each other, while Taz sits back. When he joins, Tazplexes for both of them. NAPOLEON RAMPAGE! More Tazplexes until Awesome lays him out. Awesome Bomb on Tanaka before he goes up top. Top rope Tazplex but then Taz eats a Roaring Elbow. Awesome Splash off the top and a double pin eliminates Taz and guarantees a new champion. The locker room comes out and Taz tells Awesome and Tanaka to go at it. Awesome launches himself outside to take out Tanaka. Sitout Awesome Bomb gets two. He sets up a table outside and is looking to Awesome Bomb him out there but Tanaka gets free. Masato botches a springboard clothesline and gets some steel chairs. They get on the aisle and Tanaka runs past the parted locker room to knock out Awesome with a chair. Tornado DDT off the chair continues Tanaka’s momentum. He follows with a missile dropkick to the back of the head as the bloodthirsty crowd wants tables. Tornado DDT onto two chairs only gets two. He places a chair on Awesome's face, climbs to the top and smashes another chair into his face. Sheesh. That only gets a near fall. Botched bomb from Tanaka that lands softly. Awesome counters a bomb and launches Tanaka outside and through a table with an Awesome Bomb! Alabama Slam once they get back inside and Awesome goes up top. Awesome Splash connects but can't finish it. Tanaka now no sells chair shots to the head, which still amazes me to this day. He nails Diamond Dust, as that's the third Stunner variation I've seen on this show. Awesome ducks the Roaring Elbow and hits a release German, but Tanaka no sells and charges, only to be met with a Spear for two. Awesome comes off the top with a chair shot and sets up a table. Awesome decides that he's tired of this and it's Awesome Bomb off the top through a table time and that is finally enough.
Winner and New ECW World Heavyweight Champion: Mike Awesome in 13:48 Absolutely brutal match. The Taz stuff was done with quickly, which was wise as it allowed one of the classic Tanaka/Awesome battles. It's not great wrestling, but dammit if it's not fun. ***1/4
Taz gets back in the ring, to massive heat, and hands the World Title over. Ironically, he would return the following year and win it back. Taz and the locker room are emotional in the aisle as the fans now chant “Taz.”
Talk about going back far in your video package. The next match gets a video buildup starting in 1996. Interestingly, it's the first ever ECW show I saw which is when Beulah says that she's pregnant with Tommy Dreamer's kid. Tommy comes out and says that even though he's hurt, he will compete. Steve Corino comes out and sends Rhino in after him.
ECW World Tag Team Championship Tommy Dreamer and Raven (c) w/ Francine vs. Rhino and Steve Corino w/ Jack Victory Rhino is on the offensive until he takes a hangman's neckbreaker. Corino is 23 here. Wow. Corino tries to get involved but is chased away by Tommy. Tommy does a slingshot cross body back in against Rhino but ends up taking a spinebuster. Corino brings a ladder out but gets taken out. Francine kicks Rhino but then he powerslams her. Rhino is in control until Raven shows up and hits the Evenflow. Jack “High Spot” Victory comes in as he and Corino work over the Champions. Dueling DDTs finish this off.
Winners and Still ECW World Tag Team Champions: Tommy Dreamer & Raven in 3:24 Short, and it kept the crowd into it, but it wasn't much. **
For some insane reason, Axl Rotten challenges Mike Awesome to a title match. I always found Rotten to be terrible. He's cut off by the Impact Players and Johnny Smith. I don't remember him at all but he's scheduled to face RVD. Rotten attacks them but succumbs to the numbers game. Balls Mahoney to the rescue with Spike Dudley. Spike helps by hitting Dawn Marie with the Acid Drop. Balls knocks out Smith as the Impact Players retreat. RVD needs an opponent now so he gets Mahoney.
ECW World Television Championship Rob Van Dam (c) w/ Bill Alfonso vs. Balls Mahoney I get that RVD was main eventing a lot of shows because he was the most popular guy on the roster. But this shouldn't be going on last. Balls isn't great and you had a historic World Title match in the mid-card? Things kick off with a back suplex from Balls. RVD retaliates with some kicks but takes a clothesline. Leaping side kick gets RVD back in control, which he follows with a top rope cross body. Unique rollup gets him two and then he dropkicks Balls, who throws himself out of the ring. Outside, Balls takes a beer from a fan in the middle of the beating down on RVD. He gets Balls in the crowd and Mahoney sees the Van Daminator coming, so he throws the chair at RVD. Mahoney is on his third beer from the fans. A series of kicks in the ring from RVD is stopped when Balls connects with a belly to belly suplex. Cyrus and Joey do their best to put over Balls as a wrestler and not just a brawler. The action spills back into the crowd and RVD hits a Van Daminator. RVD goes in the ring, climbs up and somersaults into the crowd. Years later, that's still impressive. Back inside, RVD gets two with a spinning leg drop. Both guys are on top and Balls shoves RVD to the mat. He hits the New Jersey Jam (second rope leg drop) for a near fall. SKY HIGH from Balls, that he calls the Ball Breaker, but D-Lo Brown wouldn't have any of that. Frog splash from Balls but it's not five stars so it doesn't get the win. Second rope suplex from RVD and Alfonso gets in with a chair and does a full roll out of the ring, leaving the chair behind. Hilarious. Rolling Thunder onto the chair is good for a near fall. Balls counters a monkey flip into a powerbomb for two. Again a counter from Balls, this one from a Northern lights suplex into a DDT, gets a near fall. RVD always sells the hell out a piledriver and it's no different here. Vicious chair shot from Balls but he decides to taunt instead of pinning. Alfonso breaks up the count with a chair shot. Balls goes after Alfonso but he ducks the chair shot and RVD hits a top rope Van Daminator. He takes long to cover so he only gets two. It's okay though, Five Star Frog Splash ends it right after.
Winner and Still ECW World Television Champion: Rob Van Dam in 19:39 Decent little TV Title match. Not on the level of some of the things that RVD was doing at the time, but Balls Mahoney surprised me. This had no business in the main event slot though. **3/4
Overall: 6.5/10; Above Average. A good show from ECW with a great opener, two fun three way dances and a decent Television Title match. It's a historic show though as Mike Awesome wins the ECW World Title and wasn't even advertised to be on the show. A lot of ECW stuff I fondly remember, but it doesn't hold up over time. Next on “Random Network Reviews” will be Survivor Series 1989.

I liked the Rumble and WrestleMania, but I wasn't a big fan of No Way Out. Watching Insurrextion now and a review should be up later.

Insurrextion 2002 May 4th, 2002 – Wembley Arena in London, England – Attendance: 10,500
It's time for another England Pay-Per-View. I've mentioned before that I'm not a huge fan of these because the wrestlers seem to not give their all in their performances. The crowd is always hot because they don't see these guys enough so nearly everything gets a reaction. Anyway, Hulk Hogan is the WWF Undisputed Champion at this time but wasn't on this show. Interesting note, this is the first brand exclusive show even though the brand exclusive Pay-Per-Views didn't become a thing for about another year. This is also the last televised event under the WWF name before the change and it's the one that featured the infamous “plane ride from hell” that resulted in a few releases.
WWF Intercontinental Championship Eddie Guerrero (c) vs. Rob Van Dam They show a recap of Backlash when Eddie took the Intercontinental Title from RVD. Quick wrestling sequence starts things until Eddie gets all mad and shoves RVD. On the outside, RVD connects with a baseball slide and Asai moonsault before rolling Eddie inside and getting a slingshot leg drop. He is pretty damn fast. Split legged moonsault only gets two. Eddie and his mullet regain control because he's a cunning son of a gun, which wins out over RVD's quickness right now. Eddie continues to work over RVD for a while. RVD goes for a sunset flip but Eddie holds on the ropes. In a strange twist, the referee kicks Eddie's hands away. He wasn't cheating or anything, they just did this. Weird. Eddie goes back to work, focusing on the leg this time with submissions and dragon screws. Smart wrestling since RVD's strength is his flying ability. Finally, a kick to the mouth turns things in RVD's favor. Big monkey flip from RVD, who seems to have forgotten that his leg was worked on the entire match. Rolling Thunder only gets RVD a two count. RVD hits another moonsault for two and the lack of selling is hurting this match. Step over enziguri and RVD goes up top but misses the Five Star Frog Splash. Eddie takes the Intercontinental Title and the referee goes to stop him from using it, only to get pushed and call for the DQ.
Winner via disqualification: Rob Van Dam in 11:23 It was going good until RVD forgot to sell the leg work from the entire match. The disqualification finish didn't help either. **1/2
After the match, RVD gets some revenge by nailing Eddie with the belt and hitting a Five Star Frog Splash. Backstage, Terri Runnels interviews Molly and Jazz. They have problems with Terri, Trish, Jackie and the other Divas for exploiting their bodies. She's totally in Ivory mode right now. She does show a quick glimpse of a UK newspaper with nudity on it. That wasn't censored surprisingly.
Jazz and Molly Holly vs. Jacqueline and Trish Stratus Trish was becoming a serious competitor and stopped wearing her tiny shorts. It's a shame. Trish gets tossed at the start and Jazz and Molly work over Jacqueline for a while. She finally makes the tag and Trish comes in hot. She takes down Jazz and brings Molly in the hard way. Focusing on Molly was a bad move though as she eats a kick from the Women's Champion. Jazz is now in control and now Trish in the face being worked out. Jacqueline kicks the hell out of Molly to break a pin. Trish starts a rally but gets kicked by Molly. She then gets a backslide that the referee doesn't see because he was accidentally distracted by Jackie. Neckbreaker from Trish earns a near fall. Jacqueline comes in and hits a DDT but Molly stops the pin. Jacqueline knocks her outside and Jazz puts her in a single leg crab. Jazz turns it into an STF that still LOOKS WAY BETTER THAN JOHN CENA'S. Trish breaks it and we get clotheslines and shots from both faces. ALL HELL HAS BROKEN LOOSE as all four girls are in. A Stratusfaction at the same time as a tornado DDT gets the faces the duke.
Winners: Jacqueline and Trish Stratus in 6:46 Decent little Divas match. They got more time than usual and did their best. *3/4
X-Pac is backstage and he tells Scott Hall to stay in the back, THERES A HURRICANE COMING THROUGH. Seriously though, he tells him to stay back and that he won't come back to this country if he loses.
Bradshaw vs. X-Pac X-Pac is still sporting Kane's mask. So quick note, the nWo went from feuding with Austin and the Rock to losing Hogan, gaining X-Pac and feuding with Bradshaw. This was the WWE's first attempt to push Bradshaw. Bradshaw beats down on his smaller opponent with clubs and a back body drop. X-Pac uses kicks to try and change things but Bradshaw catches and slams him. X-Pac wisely dropkicks the knee and he exposes the second turnbuckle. For some reason the referee doesn't call for the DQ. Bradshaw has bladed and is busted open. X-Pac continues to be on the offensive as Bradshaw is a bloody mess. He powers back because he's much bigger and nails a shoulder block off the top but X-Pac gets his foot on the rope. Scott Hall struts down to ringside shortly after X-Pac takes a fallaway slam. Hall levels Bradshaw with X-Pac's nunchakus but he kicks out. Distraction from Hall does end up allowing X-Pac to win with the X-Factor.
Winner: X-Pac in 8:48 Weird match. Having X-Pac dominate was strange for sure and Bradshaw was still not great in singles matches. *1/2
Booger Red is backstage as Jonathan Coachman is setting up to interview him. He talks about making Triple H rest in peace. Raw and it's rehashed main event feuds.
WWF Hardcore Championship Steven Richards (c) vs. Booker T Remember when Booker T was the face of the WCW Invasion? Anyway, Steven starts with an arm drag before Booker stomps him out in the corner and grabs some weapons. Booker is beating the stuffing out of Steven as it seems like he's taking out months of frustrating losses on him. Booker uses a broom, cookie sheet and trash can to continue the beating. Flapjack from Booker reminds me of Stevie Ray and the slapjack. These aren't fond memories. Steven finally gets some offense and a near fall on the outside. Steven pulls a WCW/NWO Revenge and steals Booker's taunt. Steven applies a headlock for some reason. This wasn't even his gimmick, though that would've been gold. The Hardcore Champion who refuses to work a hardcore style. Booker uses a hard Irish whip into a trash can to take advantage again. Richards kicks out of a top rope kick while he was in a garbage can. Booker goes for the Scissors Kick and eats the best Steven Kick I've ever seen but he gets his shoulder up. Booker End folds Steven and Booker gets his first Pay-Per-View win since Invasion.
Winner and New Hardcore Champion: Booker T in 11:26 Why this had to go over ten minutes is beyond me, but it wasn't terrible. Fun little match even though it slowed in the middle. **
Of course, Booker can have no success at this point, so Crash Holly runs down and rolls him up to win the belt. He steals Booker's taunt, but gets a Scissors Kick for his troubles. Booker wins the belt back. ECW INVASION! Justin Credible and Tommy Dreamer both come out and beat on Booker. They get a table which gives Booker time to regroup and fight them off. Booker celebrates until Jazz shows up, hits him with a low blow and Steven Richards puts Booker through a table to win the belt back.
Brock Lesnar and Shawn Stasiak w/ Paul Heyman vs. The Hardy Boyz Stasiak and Brock is such an oddball pairing. Stasiak starts the match even though Paul Heyman told him before the match to let Brock do all of the work. He actually does pretty well, getting a near fall after a sidewalk slam. He applies a chinlock and Heyman yells at him. Hardys start to double team him and they got for Poetry in Motion, but Brock pulls Stasiak out of the way and tags in. He gets a pop and beats the hell out of Matt. Matt tries to fight back but takes three backbreakers for his efforts. Brock continues to completely dominate as Heyman shouts at the Hardys. Brock channels his inner Davey Boy Smith with a stalling vertical suplex. Brock misses a shoulder thrust in his corner, so Stasiak tags himself in. He misses his move, so Matt tags Jeff, who gets in all of his trademark offense. Whisper in the Wind gets him a near fall as the Hardys knock Brock off the apron. Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb combo follow as the Hardys pin Stasiak for three.
Winners: The Hardy Boyz in 6:43 Solid little tag match. Brock dominated and looked as strong as he needed to, while Stasiak provided comedic relief. **1/4
Of course, the celebration is short lived as Brock comes in and takes out both Hardys and Shawn Stasiak. Sick spinning powerbomb on Stasiak ends the beating.
Coach interviews William Regal, who gets a pop from his home country. Of course, being the heel that he is, he turns the fans against him quickly.
WWF European Championship Spike Dudley (c) vs. William Regal You know, I keep seeing Spike Dudley on Pay-Per-View and he seems to always have a title. How? Hardcore, European and Tag Team and I just don't get it. Regal still gets a positive reaction despite his interview. “Regal” chants break out as he abuses Spike with some shots in the corner. Spike goes for some dropkicks but hurts his leg and needs to have the trainer cut his boot off. They go to help him leave but Regal, ever the heel, attacks him and sends him back in the ring. He focuses on the ankle to a massive pop. He taunts for another positive reaction. Butterfly bomb could've gotten three but Regal pulls Spike up before three. Spike gets a small package and retains the gold.
Winner and Still European Champion: Spike Dudley in 4:55 Not much happens as a good chunk of time is spent focusing on Spike's “injury.” The wrong man went over. *3/4
William Regal gives the fans some of what they want as he uses the brass knuckles to knock out Spike.
Big Show vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin According to the pre-match video package, Big Show turned heel for the 455th time to join the nWo and they beat down Austin. Ric Flair is the second referee, which just means that he is outside and will come in if Nick Patrick is knocked out or something. Which means, Nick Patrick will take a bump. Show overpowers Austin who decides that he should do some push ups to prevent that from happening again. It fails. They go through the motions of Show overpowering Austin, Austin rallying by targeting the knees and then getting overpowered again. It's strange that they do this like five times. Austin points in the crowd, distracting Nick Patrick, and he low blows Show. Austin continues to target the knee as this is pretty bland so far. Apparently the fans just watched Austin Powers as a “you fat bastard” chant starts in Show's direction. Show continues to dominate and applies the dreaded bearhug. Austin fights out but Nick Patrick eats a clothesline. Stunner is hit and Ric Flair, who was fighting off the nWo, returns but is pulled out by them. Flair fights off the nWo to the back, but Kevin Nash shows up to try and cheat. He takes a Stunner, and Show gets hit with two more as Austin wins.
Winner: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin in 16:21 I don't know why this had to go over fifteen minutes. It was slow, plodding and pretty boring. The main event scene on Raw was pretty rough at this point. *1/4
Flair tries to share a beer with Austin after the match but gets hit with a Stunner. Jim Ross is shocked at this, even though it's been Austin's thing since 1998.
Triple H vs. The Undertaker As soon as the bell rings, a fist fight ensues. A clothesline takes Undertaker outside after a big back drop. They brawl outside for a bit before Taker clotheslines Triple H back inside. SOUPBONES in the corner. Taker goes for Old School and Triple H pulls him down. Jim Ross is fond of saying “Triple H jerks the Undertaker off”. I've heard him say it about different people in different situations. He has to know what he's saying. Taker gets back in control and beats down on HHH for a while. Guillotine leg drop on the apron is the biggest spot during that time. HHH brawls back and the top turnbuckle breaks on an Irish whip. The top rope is now loose. HHH hits two neckbreakers and a DDT but Taker still connects with a chokeslam. He gets a chair, but HHH knees it into his face. HHH counters the Dragon Sleeper and is hit with Snake Eyes on the broken buckle. He stops a big boot with a knee to the face and a Pedigree finishes the job.
Winner: Triple H in 14:31 Another match that didn't deliver. Kinda boring and could've been much better. Jim Ross calls it “one for the ages” which I totally disagree with. *1/2
Overall: 3.5/10; Lame. As always with the UK Pay-Per-Views, this didn't deliver. I don't know if everybody phoned it in, but it just wasn't very good. Having it be Raw exclusive was dumb too as it made for a less stacked card. Completely skippable show.

Insurrextion is such a weird name for a wrestling PPV. And they were never good. The WWE Network doesn't have that Global Warning show and I wish they did. I think the main event was Brock/Rock/HHH.
