WWE Rebellion 2002 October 26th, 2002 – Manchester Arena in Manchester, England – Attendance: 13,416
So here is the one of the last WWE UK only Pay-Per-Views and it happens to be the very first Smackdown exclusive show. Their Insurrextion show earlier in the year was Raw only and it was pretty bad, so hopefully this does better. As we know from my previous reviews, Brock Lesnar is in the midst of his first run as WWE Champion. Hot off the heels of a huge win over The Undertaker in Hell in a Cell, he is scheduled to defend the belt in a handicap match on this show, with Paul Heyman as his partner and Edge as his opponent. I don't know why. Anyway, No Mercy, the previous Pay-Per-View, was a mixed bag. Raw provided some mediocre matches, while Smackdown was awesome. Maybe this show will be awesome.
The opening video package is awesome and shows some of Brock Lesnar's dominance before cutting to highlights of the Smackdown brand. Good stuff. Your announce team for the evening is Smackdown's Tazz and Michael Cole. Ugh, a promo to open a show. But, it's Stephanie McMahon so I can't fully complain because she's hot. She welcomes the fans and announces that The Undertaker's wife is in labor so he didn't make the trip with the rest of the brand. Then she says that as part of a trade with Eric Bischoff, a Raw superstar has flown in to replace him and it's the FIVE TIME FIVE TIME FIVE TIME FIVE TIME FIVE TIME WCW Champion, Booker T.
Booker T vs. Matt Hardy Matt Hardy loves English muffins. That's right, it's Matt Hardy Version 1! Matt calls for a test of strength in the beginning but pulls back, so Booker does it back to him. Booker wins the early exchanges with a dropkick that sends Version 1 to the outside. Back inside, Booker again is in control so Matt retreats again but Booker wails away on him at ringside. Matt Hardy retaliates with the EDDIE GILBERT hot shot because that spot has to happen at least once a show. He sends Booker into the corner but gets caught in a rollup for two. Matt hits the Side Effect, which I always liked and gets two of his own. We get a good old fashioned rest hold from Matt and Booker rallies behind the hot crowd. He hits a big spinebuster and both men are down until the count of eight. Booker busts out a spinning heel kick but only earns a near fall. Matt does his weird ass scream and misses his second rope leg drop. Booker climbs up and hits a weak looking missile dropkick. SPINAROONIE, oh no, Matt interrupts but eats a Book End, only to get his foot on the rope. Matt uses this to get close to a win but falls victim to the Scissors Kick.
Winner: Booker T in 12:01 Good opener. The crowd was hot for Booker T, you get the Raw guy out of the way, the face won and it was a fun bout. Just what it needed to be. **3/4
Booker T grabs a microphone and tells the fans that it's not over because he didn't get to do a SPINAROONIE! He does one to the crowd's liking. Cutting to the back, Paul Heyman is walking through the halls and he looks pissed. He barges into Stephanie McMahon's office to complain about the WWE Title match tonight. Stephanie shuts him down and the match is still going down.
Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson vs. John Cena and Dawn Marie I'm confused here. John Cena is clearly still in RUTHLESS AGGRESSION mode, but I always thought he was a face for that and he's teaming with the heel here? Also, I'll never understand why Billy Kidman moved on from his WCW theme. The Divas have toe separated before the bell and I guess Cena is a heel as he attacks Kidman from behind. He shows that he is indeed the prototype with a stalling vertical suplex while doing squats. That's impressive and he should use it now. Dawn blind tags in and kicks Torrie's real life husband at the time in the ribs. Kidman is unfazed, holds Dawn over his knee and Torrie spanks her. Torrie actually does a leap frog and dropkick which is more than I usually see from her. As the girls get into a catfight, Kidman wisely gets in the ring and pulls them onto him to roll with them. He celebrates after it which is awesome. Cena comes in behind the referee's back and slams Torrie. He gets the tag and threatens to do more damage to Torrie, but she low blows him. Kidman comes in and lights him up for a bit. Kidman hits the BoDog for a near fall as Torrie tackles Dawn to the mat. Cena eats a vicious enziguri, followed by the Shooting Star Press and this one is over.
Winners: Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson in 5:24 I didn't expect to, but I enjoyed the hell out of that. A fun five minutes with Cena enjoying the heel tactics while Kidman showed personality with the catfight big. Fun stuff. **1/2
After the match, Torrie Wilson plants a big kiss on Billy Kidman and he's totally getting some after this show. They interview Edge about his first ever WWE Title shot and they're doing a decent job of building his shot throughout the night.
Crash Holly vs. Funaki What the h-e-double hockey sticks is this doing on Pay-Per-View? This isn't even Smackdown worthy, it belongs on Velocity. Crash stops mid match to bring out a headband because he knows karate or something. Funaki will have none of this because, being Asian, of course he must know karate himself. Crash gets near falls with a cross body and side slam. He must be serious because he tosses away the headband and applies a headlock. It's strange that Crash is the more powerful guy in any match and he hits a big clothesline. He misses a move in the corner, allowing Funaki to hit a bulldog. Tazz decides it's time to do a Gordon Solie impersonation for some reason. They go into a series of rollups that Funaki wins and gets gets the three.
Winner: Funaki in 5:37 I don't know why this was on the Pay-Per-View, though Funaki was at least a bit over as SMACKDOWN NUMBA ONE ANNOUNCA. This wasn't awful. *3/4
Nidia is walking backstage when she finds a smelly security guard and she complains about it to Jamie Noble. Nidia was pretty damn good in this role, though she was never the most attractive Diva. We see Rey Mysterio getting ready in a weird ass segment where he looks at the camera and breathes heavily.
WWE Cruiserweight Championship Elimination Triple Threat Match Jamie Noble (c) w/ Nidia vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Tajiri Elimination rules? Hell yes! The match starts with Rey getting attacked at the bell, but he comes back with a corkscrew plancha onto both of his opponents outside. Mysterio kicks Noble in the midst of a bulldog on Tajiri. Nice spots early on. Tajiri dropkicks the Champion while he's in the tree of woe and then puts Rey into the Tarantula. Noble dropkicks him to break the hold though. Tajiri kicks the hell out of Rey but turns right into a Tiger Bomb from Noble, who eliminates him early on. I wish we got the the three person dynamic for a bit longer. Nidia gets in cheap shots as he pulls Rey's shoulder across the turnbuckle because HEELS. Jamie Noble shouts “what's my name” and the fans needed to respond with “JAMIE NOBLE BOY” but they don't and I'm disappointed. Noble works over Rey for a while and earns a kiss from Nidia. Rey counters an electric chair drop into a badass tornado DDT. He gets a near fall with a springboard leg drop and a top rope crotch drop or something. He hits a sweet sunset flip bomb but Nidia distracts the referee. He still gets ready for a 619 but Nidia trips him hard. That allows for the Tiger Bomb but Rey kicks out! I didn't expect that. He goes for an electric chair drop again, but Rey counters into a pin. Noble counters that into his own pin and uses Nidia for leverage to retain.
Winner and Still Cruiserweight Champion: Jamie Noble in 12:47 Very fun Triple Threat match and I wish that we got more elimination style ones. ***1/4
After the match, Rey hits a 619 on both Noble and Nidia. A 12 2 18! In the back, Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit are arguing about who the captain of their team is. They are a funny pair who can get very serious quickly and that's beautiful.
Chuck Palumbo and Val Venis vs. D-Von Dudley and Ron Simmons So Palumbo went from teaming with his gay lover to teaming with a porn star? Also, D-Von and Simmons come out to the Reverend D-Von theme but he's not in reverend attire. For some reason, the action starts even before the bell as if this is some hotly contested rivalry. Venis dominates the early stages but eats a big spinebuster that stops him in his tracks. Palumbo eventually gets the hot tag and comes in on fire. Palumbo and Venis use the most vanilla double team moves, like a double hip toss before Chuck hits Simmons with an impressive belly to belly. That doesn't matter as D-Von and Simmons win with a rollup and a handful of tights.
Winners: D-Von Dudley and Ron Simmons in 4:09 Well that was boring. It had no heat because nobody cares about these four guys. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't very good either. *1/2
Los Guerreros cut a promo about bringing their Grandma down to Germany with them. Chavo says they're in Ireland and regardless of where they are, it's not better than Mexico.
Kiss My Ass Match Albert vs. Rikishi Before the match starts, Alberto cuts a promo about how sexy he is. Yup. They trade big blows to start and Alberto runs away at the sight of Rikishi's ass. They got for a test of strength but Rikishi goes for a headbutt. In an absolute reversal of normal wrestling rules, the Samoan's headbutt has no effect on the white guy. Albert headbutts him down because he has a huge dome. Albert applies a headlock for a while but Rikishi rallies before his arm drops three times. He hits a Samoan drop because every Samoan has that move in their repertoire. Albert exposed a turnbuckle earlier, and it backfires as he gets sent into it. A superkick and Banzai Drop follows, meaning he will join the Rikishi “Kiss my Ass Club”
Winner: Rikishi in 7:17 Not a terrible big man match, but it's one of three matches on the card that didn't have good heat. Not many people really cared for Albert. *1/2
Albert tries to leave without kissing ass, so the referee gets on the microphone and tells him that if he doesn't get back in the ring, he'll be suspended without pay. Referees have more authority than I thought. Albert gets down on his knees and instead of kissing, he attacks Rikishi. He goes for a stinkface but gets hit with a low blow, allowing Rikishi to give him the stinkface. He calls in Tazz, Tony Chimel and Michael Cole to dance with him and it's awkward.
WWE Tag Team Championship Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle (c) vs. Los Guerreros Because they're who they are, Angle and Benoit go back and forth on who should star the match, even polling the fans. Angle starts with Chavo and clearly has the strength advantage. Benoit ends up getting tagged in but the fans are loudly chanting “We want Angle!” He has a sweet exchange with Eddie that includes a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Angle ends up hitting a German on Chavo that the crowd pops for, so Eddie nails him. Benoit enters and hits him with a German before arguing with Kurt. As the Guerreros get up, the Champions hit stereo Germans for another pop. It's pretty badass that a tag team is built off of two guys trying to one up each other. Los Guerreros end up isolating Benoit with quick tags and some solid tag team wrestling. Benoit gets tired of that and tries the Crossface but can't get it. GORY SPECIAL on Benoit, because Eddie is a Guerrero and this move is in their DNA. Benoit nails a flapjack and an absolutely vicious powerbomb but Chavo gets in a cheap shot to prevent the hot tag. Because he's a G, Benoit ends up getting Chavo in the Crossface anyway but Eddie stops it. Angle gets the hot tag and starts suplexes everyone in sight. Benoit is jealous so he starts hitting Germans all over the place as well. He connects with the flying headbutt on Eddie but the pin is broken by Chavo. Eddie gets a near fall that's stopped by Benoit with a Crossface but he's not the legal man. Eddie counters the Angle Slam by shoving Angle into Benoit. They get into a shoving match, allowing Eddie to put Kurt in the El Paso Lasso. Angle is a MACHINE though and turns that into the Ankle Lock! Eddie taps but there's no referee. Chavo nails Eddie weakly with one of the belts and puts the ref back in the ring. Angle kicks out though. He comes back with the Angle Slam and wins it for his team.
Winners and still WWE Tag Team Champions: Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle in 16:36 These four guys pretty much can't have a bad match. While they've had better encounters this is still the match of the night and a very enjoyable contest. ***3/4
Paul Heyman is struggling to do any sort of calisthenics and Brock warns him that he better not lose him the WWE Title tonight.
WWE Championship Handicap Match Brock Lesnar (c) and Paul Heyman vs. Edge I would've totally preferred just Brock vs. Edge but I'm intrigued by Heyman being part of this. Edge is overwhelmed by Brock's power in the early stages, but shows how resilient he is by using his quickness. Edge was a very good underdog face and he doesn't get enough credit for that. He gets some early falls with surprise rollups that just end up pissing off Brock. Heyman uses his dastardly tactics to get in some cheap shots but Edge rallies with a spinning heel kick on Brock and a Spear that knocks Heyman off the apron. Brock gets a moment to breath and starts back on the assault. Each time that Edge seems like he's going to turn things around, Brock proves to be just too much for him. This is exactly how a Brock Lesnar match should go. Brock, being the monster heel that he is, applies a bearhug on Edge that they call the Brock Lock. I remember the Brock Lock being that submission where he would put your leg over his neck and wrench. I could be wrong though. Edge fights out and hits a big dropkick in the corner before hitting Heyman with a baseball slide. That was dumb because he walks right into a spinebuster. Edge is fighting back again and plants Brock face first before hitting the Edge-o-Matic for two. He knocks Brock out of the ring and brings in Heyman. Top rope spinning heel kick allows him to pin Heyman but Brock saves his belt. Edge manages to pick up a close near fall and the crowd believes in him. He leaps off the top and takes out the referee by mistake. He counters the F5 into the Edgecution and no ref is there to make the count. Brock takes a sick swing with a chair and misses, allowing Edge to hit the Spear! He gets a ridiculously close two count and then is put down for good by an F5.
Winner and Still WWE Champion: Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman in 18:50 That was enjoyable. Brock dominated the majority as he should and then Edge made the furious run in the end and actually had the fans thinking he might win. That's impressive. ***3/4
After the match, Paul Heyman yells at Edge for Spearing him and he has a steel chair. Edge kicks the chair into his face and plants him with the Edgecution to send the fans home with a smile.
Overall: 5.5/10; Decent. The last two matches are really good and damn near great. There's a bit too much filler here as Smackdown might not have been ready to do it's own Pay-Per-View yet, just like Raw earlier in the year. The Cruiserweight Title match is another one to watch for, while the first two matches were both rather enjoyable. That's not enough to fully recommend this show.

WCW Hog Wild 8/10/1996 – Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota – Attendance: 5,000
I'm just going to get this out the way. I expect this to be bad. Like really bad. Yes, this was right after the formation of the nWo so that was still fresh in our minds but shows in Sturgis are usually bad and part of it is because the crowd is bad. The fans don't really even care for wrestling, it's free and they just rev their motorcycles non-stop. This is the only Hog Wild Pay-Per-View ever as it was changed to Road Wild the following year. Last note, I believe that this is a 16 match card. Yes, 16. Eight of them aired on WCW Saturday Night because this was a Saturday night Pay-Per-View. I have to review sixteen WCW matches, someone help me.
The intro video package talks about how great Sturgis is and shows some WCW guys riding around on motorcycles. This had to stem from Eric Bischoff's obsession with motorcycles. Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan and Dusty Rhodes are on commentary and Schiavone is showing off his arm tattoo. Also, it looks like the WWE Network only shows the eight matches that aired on Pay-Per-View for this show and not the eight that aired on TBS' Saturday Night program. I'm happy about that.
WCW Cruiserweight Championship Rey Mysterio Jr. (c) vs. The Ultimo Dragon w/ Sonny Ono Mike Tenay joins the commentary booth simply because the existing team has NO CLUE how to call a match like this. They even basically admit it. The crowd surprisingly react to an early exchange between the two. Heenan brings up the fact that Rey isn't 100% because he got thrown into a trailer like a dart by Kevin Nash recently. The fans chant “USA” at Ultimo Dragon which is dumb when both competitors are foreign. We get an impressive array of athleticism as they try to one up each other but the crowd is silent. Dragon kicks Rey all over and ends the flurry with a dropkick. He hits a running powerbomb but doesn't go for the cover and instead applies a figure four variation. Mysterio escapes and takes a breather outside but once he comes in, Dragon locks on a torture rack/airplane spin and drops down with it. He goes for the surfboard but Rey gets out and hits a springboard dropkick. A baseball slides follows and then a plancha that the camera misses. Now, the ring is on a pedestal and Dragon was on the floor so this was a bigger plancha than you'd normally see. Back inside, he leaps off the top into a hurricanrana but Dragon fights back with a big dropkick. He hits a baseball slide variation, skins the cat back in and nails a plancha back out. When they get inside, Dragon hits a bridging German for two and an Asai moonsault. He decides not to cover and connects with a top rope moonsault but Rey kicks out! He counters Dragon's running powerbomb and hits a top rope hurricanrana to keep the gold.
Winner and Still WCW Cruiserweight Champion: Rey Mysterio Jr. in 11:35 Good opener despite the crowd not being very big on it. They did their best to overcome the fans and I thought it was good. ***3/4
Mean “BAH GAWD” Gene discusses the WCW Hotline while wearing a dumb hat and sleeveless jean jacket. 1-900-909-9900! Tony Schiavone tries to discuss how cool Sturgis is but actually calls the people there odd. Good going.
The Ice Train vs. Scott Norton The epic breakup and rivalry of the decorated tag team known as Fire and Ice comes to a head tonight! Ice Train has his shoulder HEAVILY taped. Seriously, it's more tape than I've ever seen for an injury. Norton wisely targets that and things spill to the outside. Norton rams Train's shoulder into the post and they go right back inside. Train powers up for a slam but it obviously pains him greatly. Norton targets the shoulder some more until Train chops him a few times. Norton shrugs that off and goes back to the shoulder. Train busts out a powerslam as Norton comes off the ropes but Norton hits a single arm DDT and applies an ARMBAR forcing Train to submit.
Winner: Scott Norton in 5:05 Rather boring but the focus on the shoulder made a lot of sense and I appreciate that. *1/2
A clip is shown of a Ric Flair interview where he discusses how upset he is that Arn Anderson was injured at the hands of the nWo. Mind you, Double A wrestled on the Saturday Night portion of this show before the Pay-Per-View aired. So yea. More shots of Sturgis are shown before we get a plug of the WCW Hog Wild merchandise. $89.95 for a jean jacket that says Hog Wild on the back. Who would spend $90 on this?
Battle of the Bikes Bull Nakano w/ Sonny Ono vs. Madusa First of all, I saw this in 1994 in the WWF. Second, what the hell is a “Battle of the Bikes”? This is what Madusa left the WWF for. Nakano attacks before the match begins with a nunchuck. Seriously, Dusty Rhodes says “nunchuck” like five times and it's hilarious each time. More “USA” chants though it makes more sense now since Madusa is in stars and stripes. Madusa bridges out of a pin nicely and gets a big pop for some clotheslines. Nakano ends up putting Madusa in the Scorpion Cross lock, which is awesome, and it's so cool that Paige does this 18 years later. She doesn't do it well though as it's only for like three seconds. Madusa ends up hitting a hurricanrana, which gets another pop and a spinning heel kick. She goes for another but eats a big clothesline. Madusa hits a German for two but then Nakano hits one and Madusa gets counted down for three it seems. The referee doesn't call for the bell but Ono grabs a sledgehammer and starts to destroy Madusa's motorcycle.
Winner: Bull Nakano in 5:25 I guess Bull won. They tried and the crowd was actually into it. **
Oh, the official raised Madusa's hand after the match. So she won somehow? Classic WCW.
Chris Benoit w/ Miss Elizabeth and Woman vs. Dean Malenko Miss Elizabeth's WCW run featured some of her hottest looks. Heenan seriously states that the current Four Horsemen, which includes Mongo, is the best Horsemen ever. I'm done with WCW commentary. The early portions here have a feeling out process highlighted by a Malenko stalling suplex. Benoit viciously attacks Dean's neck for a bit before lighting his chest up with some chops. They trade near falls and Benoit impressively bridges up before more quick near falls and Malenko bridges out. They do some very solid wrestling holds but the crowd is not feeling it. Benoit always had one of the best snap suplexes in wrestling and he uses it here. Heenan continues to make fun of the people that you'd find at Sturgis. Malenko connects with a tombstone as The Undertaker gets furious watching this. Who am I kidding? He's not watching. He hits a cross body on Benoit that sends both men to the mat outside. After about an eight count, they get in and Benoit hits a big superplex. Malenko fires back with an absolutely gorgeous release German suplex for two. Shortly after, Benoit hits a German of his own for two as the announcers informs us that there's five minutes remaining in the time limit. He locks on the LionTamer basically before he gets a near fall with a very impressive roll up. Malenko gets a near fall with another roll up and I've seen like ten of those in the past few minutes. A powerbomb from Benoit couldn't put him away either as one minute remains. Benoit goes up top but Malenko meets him and hits a release second rope suplex but again Benoit kicks out. Time expires so they decide to do a five minute overtime and the crowd doesn't seem too excited for it. Benoit gets yet another close call with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. DOUBLE NOGGIN KNOCKER in the corner and both guys are down. Benoit applies a figure four type move as the five minute extension also runs out of time! This crowd boos another five minutes because they don't care about wrestling. Heenan tries to play off the boos but we know what's going on. Malenko with a dragon screw but Benoit comes back with a nice dragon suplex. Benoit misses a dropkick so Malenko locks on the Texas Cloverleaf! Woman intervenes to distract Malenko which allows Benoit to win with a rollup.
Winner: Chris Benoit in 26:55 I can't believe there was a time where WCW would allow Benoit and Malenko to go to double overtime and get nearly thirty minutes. However, the cheap finish hurt it as it's classic WCW. ****
WCW World Tag Team Championship Harlem Heat (c) w/ Sherri and Colonel Parker vs. The Steiner Brothers The STEINERLINE song is just absolute trash. While I was never a big fan of either team, they're both amongst the best of the 90's and Scott and Booker went on to become top players for WCW. For some reason, the fans decide to rev up their bikes and be very loud, which upsets Harlem Heat. Scott and Booker start and Scott nearly immediately plants him with a tiger suplex before he tosses Stevie Ray, causing the Champions to regroup. Back inside, Scott ducks an axe kick and hits a gorilla press slam. The crowd is totally into the Steiners more than anyone else on the card so far. Stevie Ray tries his hand but fails and once Scott tags in Rick, I lose some interest. Rick hits a suplex despite Booker's attempt to block it. So it looks like it's time for Rick to become the face in peril as Stevie Ray applies a dreaded rest hold. It starts as a nerve hold but turns into a headlock. Scott gets the hot tag and hits some dropkicks before putting on an STF. I've never seen him do that. Heenan won't shut up about how into the show the crowd is, which besides this match, is untrue. While another rest hold is applied, Schiavone continues the lying by calling WCW the worldwide leader in pay-per-views. SPINAROONIE! Shortly after, with Stevie and Rick outside, Parker tries to throw powder in the eyes of Scott but misses and hits Booker. ITS OKAY because he hits Scott with his cane and the champions retain.
Winners and Still WCW World Tag Team Champions: Harlem Heat in 17:53 Decent tag team match but could've been better. Both teams disappointed me. **1/2
The fans throw garbage because they hated Harlem Heat once they saw them and I can only assume it's because their black. I could be wrong though. We get a recap of the Sturgis rally so far. It's lame.
WCW United States Championship Ric Flair (c) w/ Miss Elizabeth and Woman vs. Eddie Guerrero Two of the greatest of all time? I'm all for this. Bobby Heenan says that Guerrero has no chance because he's not in Flair's league. As the bell rings, Flair tells a girl in the front row that after this, it will be him and her. Flair and Eddie get into a shoving match and every Eddie push sends Ric to the mat. He gets mad and shoves the referee instead. The same thing happens when slap each other, causing Flair to take a breather outside. Eddie applies a headlock in the ring but Flair counters it into multiple near falls. He slams Eddie down by the hair, but Eddie pops right back up. It gets extremely dark for a moment as Flair chops Eddie down. Flair takes his signature bump in the corner and Eddie dropkicks him off the apron. Eddie has looked like a million bucks so far. Flair begs Eddie to stop, because he's Flair and that's what he does but Eddie chops him until he walks out and falls. Being the dirtiest player in the game, Flair pokes Eddie in the eyes and hits a low blow. WOO! He blocks a sunset flip but ends up taking a drop toe hold. Eddie has the balls to apply a Figure Four which surprised me. Flair gets out but because Eddie is in control, he struts a bit. Flair goes up top, which never works, and gets slammed to the mat for a near fall. As Eddie tries to bring Flair down for a pin, Flair ends up mooning the crowd with his white ass. Eddie pokes Flair in the eyes because HE LIES, HE CHEATS, HE STEALS. He actually hits the Frog Splash but hurts his knee and can't make the cover. The Nature Boy is like a shark smelling blood as he instantly applies the Figure Four with extra leverage from Woman. Eddie's shoulders get pinned to the mat for three.
Winner and Still WCW United States Champion: Ric Flair in 14:14 Very good match. Flair let Eddie get in all of the offense and a rookie mistake of the high risk move ended up costing him. ***3/4
We got to Mean “BAH GAWD” Gene who is with the WCW Champion, The Giant and his manager Jimmy Hart. They talk about how The Giant was a huge Hogan fan who will avenge all Hulkamaniacs tonight. Wasn't he the one that came with the Dungeon of Doom to destroy Hogan?
Lex Luger and Sting vs. The Outsiders This match stemmed from the infamous six man tag at Bash at the Beach where the nWo formed officially. Because the Outsiders are cool, they decided that Hall will start with a game of rock, paper, scissors. Hall holds serve early on until Luger hits a hip toss and scoop slam. I feel like Luger has the most basic moveset in wrestling. Like, he learned the basics and was just like “I'm good” and stopped there. Big Sexy gets the tag as Luger does about a hundred titty flexes. Nash wants Sting, who obliges. Sting fails to slam Nash so he decides to just fire away with punches and gets the slam after a thumb to the eyes. Despite this, the heels end up working over Sting in the corner for a while. Hall hits a fallaway slam and gets a near fall. The Outsiders are not only beating on Sting, but they're slapping him around and trying to humiliate him. It's actually rather boring to be honest. Sting finally makes the hot tag to Luger who hits a clothesline with THAT DAMN LOADED FOREARM! He fires away on Hall in the corner while Sting hits Nash with the Stinger Splash. Luger tries the Torture Rack and Nick Patrick gets hit. Hall ends up covering Luger and Patrick gives a bit of a fast count.
Winner: The Outsiders in 14:36 Kind of boring. It followed the tag formula like you'd expect, but something about it just didn't click. All four guys seemed to be going through the motions. *3/4
WCW World Heavyweight Championship The Giant (c) w/ Jimmy Hart vs. “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan Bobby Heenan says that he always knew Hogan was scum, which is pretty accurate since he hated him during their WWF run kayfabe wise. The bell rings and Hogan is stalling by walking around the ring and up the aisle. I feel like a good majority of this match will be stalling. He gets in the ring and can't overpower the Giant so he stalls some more. We get a VERY long test of strength, with both guys getting the advantage at different times until Giant wins. Hogan ends up working the arm in another boring sequence. I swear this is a never ending wristlock. Giant finally fights out and knocks Hogan outside. They fight outside but it's not much better and when get get inside Giant whips Hogan into opposite corners and he hits so soft you wouldn't believe it. Hogan ends up with the upper hand but the Giant hulks up on him! We're talking big boot and everything. He signals for the Chokeslam but here comes Scott Hall. He climbs to the top like an idiot and gets slammed down before eating a Chokeslam. Nash is out but also gets stopped by Giant. Hogan lays out the Giant with the World Title and wins it.
Winner and New WCW World Heavyweight Champion: “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan in 14:56 Whoever laid this match out isn't very good at his job. This was boring and did the Giant no favors. Worst match of the show. *
Nobody from WCW shows up to assist as two guys brings out a cake and the Booty Man, also known as Brutus Beefcake is with them. He has an nWo shirt and the Booty Man is a stupid name. The announcers sell Booty Man's betrayal like this is the end of WCW because he's gone. Hogan cuts a promo and says Booty Man without cracking a smile so that's the best acting he's ever done. The cake is for Hogan's birthday and Booty Man congratulates him. Mind you, the dominant Giant character is laid out from ONE SINGLE BELT SHOT still. I've seen mid carders get up from that quicker. Hogan says that he loves the Booty Man, which still makes me laugh, but he's not nWo, so they beat him up. If Giant is still down from the belt shot then Booty Man might be dead after he gets one too. In an iconic moment, Hogan spray paints nWo on the title. They exit to close the show and yes, The Giant is STILL KNOCKED OUT.
Overall: 7/10; Good. I always split WCW into two time frames. Before and after the nWo and this show was a precursor of things to come. Most Pay-Per-Views after the nWo featured a good undercard and a poor main event scene. Here you had three really good to great matches in Mysterio/Dragon, Benoit/Malenko and Flair/Guerrero. There was some crap like the WCW Title match but this was still actually an enjoyable show and I did not expect that. My next “Random Network Review” looks like it will be Chi-Town Rumble!

Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson vs. John Cena and Dawn Marie I'm confused here. John Cena is clearly still in RUTHLESS AGGRESSION mode, but I always thought he was a face for that and he's teaming with the heel here? He turned heel on Kidman a few weeks before the Rebellion PPV (October 17th is when he turned I believe). It was the transition phase before he started rapping.

Survivor Series 2002 November 17th, 2002 – Madison Square Garden in New York, New York – Attendance: 17,930
SummerSlam 2002 is widely considered one of the best Pay-Per-Views of all time, but the other 2002 Pay-Per-View that seemingly gets universal acclaim is Survivor Series. Now, first of all, it's held in my favorite arena ever, Madison Square Garden. Second, it features the first ever Elimination Chamber match which is still such a cool concept. The other things I remember from this show include the WWE Title match between Big Show and Brock Lesnar, as well as the debut of Scott Steiner, a Hardcore Women's Title match and the Smackdown Six being featured. I won't lie, I'm very excited for this and can't wait to get started.
The intro video focuses on Paul Heyman being nervous when it comes to the Brock Lesnar vs. Big Show match. He feels that Brock may have bitten off more than he could chew with the Big Show. It then cuts to Eric Bischoff talking about his invention that is the Elimination Chamber. Ooh, the theme is “Always” by Saliva and I happen to love that song. I love that they're using the MSG side entrance too.
Six Man Elimination Tables Match Bubba Ray Dudley, Jeff Hardy and Spike Dudley vs. 3 Minute Warning and Rico We start with a big brawl that the faces win and Bubba press slams Pike into 3 Minute Warning. They catch him though, so Jeff leaps off of Bubba onto them in a cool spot. The Hardys and the Dudleys met in this building over two years ago in the first tables match so cool to have Jeff and Bubba together. Jeff and Bubba do a “WASSUP” variation where Jeff hits a leg drop and Bubba is all like “GETS THE TABLES!” The future S.H.I.T. Throws Spike and Jeff around before missing a spear and putting himself through the table. It has to be an offensive move so it doesn't count and he no sells the table by beating everyone up. 3 Minute Warning counter a Dudley Dog and alley oop Spike through the table. That looked like it hurt a lot. 3 Minute Warning both climb up top but get crotched leading to Poetry in Motion on one of them. Bubba gets the Bubba Bomb on the future Umaga, and goes outside to save Jeff Hardy from going through a table. Because it's MSG, Jeff Hardy climbs the crowd and, just like Royal Rumble 2000, hits a Swanton Bomb off of one of the exits and through the table to eliminate Rosey! Rico attempts to put Bubba through the table but gets crotched. Jeff hits Whisper in the Winds on Jamal before running the guardrail and falling. He ends up eating a table to the face. Jamal hits a splash off the top and to the outside to eliminate Jeff. Back inside, Jamal actually attempts to hit a top rope hurricanrana on Bubba, but it's countered into a powerbomb through it. We're down to Rico and Bubba Ray and I think I know how this one ends. 3 Minute Warning doesn't leave and keep it 3 on 1 until D-Von Dudley runs out to a huge pop! HES NOT THE REVEREND ANYMORE! He cleans house and it's time for a 3D through the table on Rico!
Winners: Bubba Ray Dudley, Jeff Hardy and Spike Dudley in 14:22 Really fun opener. The Tables were used well, there was never a dull moment and the crowd popped hard for the Dudley Boyz reunion. I enjoyed this a lot but it had some sloppy spots. ***
We go to The World where Stacy Keibler is looking perfect. She talks about her PR work for Test and his Testicles. Yes, if you don't remember, Test's “fans” were known as his testicles thanks to Stacy. She introduces Saliva who perform “Always” at the World. This is the second 2002 Pay-Per-View to have them perform after WrestleMania X8. Oh, this performance is done while a video package shows promoting the show. We see highlights of the Trish/Victoria buildup as well as the ridiculous Smackdown Tag Team Title Triple Threat match. Then it focuses on the two World Title matches. So yea, this card is stacked.
WWE Cruiserweight Championship Jamie Noble (c) w/ Nidia vs. Billy Kidman Can I just say that I LOVE the shine that the Cruiserweight Title got in 2002? It's been on nearly every Pay-Per-View, especially since Jamie Noble won it at King of the Ring. Side note, this was the debut of Kidman's “You Can Run” theme music. Quick start involves Kidman picking up numerous near falls. Noble hits a sweet neckbreaker as Michael Cole notes that he's the longest reigning Champion in the WWE. Noble pulls out a suicide dive, which he doesn't do that often. He goes to the top again for a cross body but Kidman meets him with a pretty dropkick. Kidman gets another round of “oohs” from the crowd with a TKO/Go to Sleep combo if you will. Noble fires back with the falcon arrow, so these guys are trying to bring it for sure. Kidman hits another big facebuster and goes up for the SSP, but Nidia pulls Noble out of harm's way. Kidman decides to hit a splash anyway onto him outside. Slingshot leg drop back in from Kidman earns him two and Nidia gets involved by grabbing his leg. Noble accidentally runs into her and Kidman hits the Sky High, I THINK YOU BETTER RECOGNIZE, for a near fall. A series of counters finishes when Noble counters a backslide into the Tiger Bomb, but only gets two. They fight to the top and Kidman hits a top rope sitout DDT but only gets two! Are you serious? Noble DDTs Kidman from the top and again can only get two. My goodness. Again he tries the SSP but Nidia distracts him. The two guys fight up top again and Kidman knocks him off before hitting the Shooting Star Press to win.
Winner and New WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Billy Kidman in 7:29 Well that was something. I didn't expect to see all of those big moves and near falls. They went out and tried to steal the show as this show is off to a very strong start. Fun spotfest. ***1/4
Kurt Angle is watching backstage and says that if BILLY FREAKIN KIDMAN can win a title tonight, then they should have no problem if they don't get in each other's way. They argue a bit but make up and it ends with a hug. Chris Jericho is shown preparing for the main event. Then Victoria is shown talking to a mirror and asking who the prettiest Diva is. Apparently, the mirror said Trish Stratus so Victoria freaks out and tears up a Trish cardboard cutout that's in her locker room for some reason.
WWE Women's Championship Hardcore Match Trish Stratus (c) vs. Victoria They have built a great feud on Victoria's jealously from their time as fitness models because Trish got all the chances and she didn't. Victoria attacks at the start and grabs the first weapon, which is a broom. THAT WITCH! Trish ducks and leaps over the first two shots but gets choked by it anyway. Trish fires back with a trash can lid, but Victoria shrugs it off and connects with a front flip leg drop. Impressive stuff. She sets up a trash can in the corner, but it backfires when Trish slingshots her into it. Trish starts whipping Victoria like A GOVERNMENT MULE with a kendo stick. Victoria has a bloody nose as he blocks Trish's handstand hurricanrana, only to get hit with a trash can lid twice more. These two are not holding back at all. Victoria gets a mirror from outside and has to spit out blood. Chick Kick from out of nowhere gets a near fall. They botch a bulldog in the corner which sucks because they've been doing so well. Victoria gets a fire extinguisher that she struggles to get to work and sprays Trish. Once inside, a snap suplex earns her the surprising win.
Winner and New WWE Women's Champion: Victoria in 7:01 Despite the botch near the end, these two went out and got brutal with each other. It helped to solidify Trish as a badass chick and made Victoria legit with the title win. ***
Jonathan Coachman, future stooge of Eric Bischoff, interviews him about the Elimination Chamber. He brags about how he continues to outdo Stephanie McMahon. Big Show interrupts to tell him that trading him was a mistake because he's going to win the WWE Title. Brock's back, which is bigger than most people is shown. Paul Heyman clutches the WWE Championship because he's worried about the Big Show. I guess it's time for the Brock face turn.
WWE Championship Brock Lesnar (c) w/ Paul Heyman vs. Big Show WELP. HERE COMES THE PAIN. God, the Undisputed Title looks so perfect on Brock Lesnar. He gets right in the face of Big Show to start and pushes him. Brock was becoming very popular, very quickly. Loud “Let's Go Lesnar” chants. The crowd is HOT as he tackles Show to the mat and they brawl outside. Show targets the injured ribs and throws Brock into the post. Back inside, Brock fights back with a weak looking back suplex but he makes up for it with a big German suplex. Show counters the F5 with some knees and the referee ends up getting hit. Brock hits an overhead belly to belly and my god that man is strong. Heyman tosses in a steel chair and Lesnar whacks Show with it. Brock hits the F5 and holds Show up for a good amount of time. That was one of the most impressive shows of strength ever. A new referee runs out and counts but Heyman pulls him out of the ring. Brock is pissed. He chases Heyman, which leads to Show hitting him with the chair a few times before Chokeslamming him on it to become the Champion.
Winner and New WWE Champion: Big Show in 4:19 The best five minutes that we were going to get with these two. Show didn't do bad, Brock looked like a total badass and the match made sense. Except for the Heyman turn, which was dumb. **3/4
Big Show and Paul Heyman run into a limo and escape the arena. Seriously, the only reason I see this happening was to have Brock Lesnar run as a face. However, Champion Big Show doesn't excite me.
WWE Tag Team Championship Triple Threat Match Edge and Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Chris Benoit and Kurt Angle vs. Los Guerreros DIS GUN BE GUD! I would like to point out that there's an hour and a half left on this show and only two matches. Benoit and Mysterio kick things off and Benoit tears into him with some hard ass chops. A few tags happen and the Guerreros are enjoying just standing on the apron, so Angle tags in Chavo. Edge and Mysterio work him over and get a near fall with a splash. Chavo flapjacks Rey into another stratosphere before Eddie gets the tag. Rey and him do some good old late 90's WCW cruiserweight stuff. Because Rey is practically a midget, he hurts his head on the top rope when running them. Angle tosses Rey up and I think he was supposed to land on the top, but he slips and falls hard. Angle and Benoit now isolate Rey and beat him up for a while. Los Guerreros are genius because they are getting as little involved as possible. Both Angle and Rey need tags, and they go for the Guerreros but Eddie and Chavo back off the apron. Edge hits Angle with a belly to belly that, while impressive, can't top Brock's to Show earlier. Edge goes to Spear Angle, who counters with a drop toe hold. He locks on the Ankle Lock while Benoit has the Crossface in. SWEET JESUS HOW DIDN'T HE TAP? Rey breaks it up. As Benoit does rolling Germans to Edge, Eddie hits him with a sunset flip and it's like a double near fall. Business has picked up for sure. Eddie hits a Frog Splash on Edge but his counter is broken up by a headbutt from Benoit. Eddie is in the Ankle Lock, while Edge is in the Crossface, so Chavo hits Benoit with the belt. Angle takes it from him and Benoit sees him with the belt and they get into a shoving match. Benoit ends up eating a Spear and they're eliminated! Angle and Benoit are both machines and they're upset so they beat up everyone in the match except Eddie, who is outside. Los Guerreros, being the fresh team, isolate Edge for a while. He hits a double flapjack and I have to commend how good Edge was at playing the underdog babyface. Hot tag to Rey who does stuff too fast for me to type out in full. Just know it's fun. Edge Spears Chavo into Eddie, who then gets dropkicked. Eddie perched up top as Edge catapults Rey onto his shoulder and he hits a hurricanrana for two. 619 connects but the referee is telling Edge to leave, opening the door for Chavo. He LIES he CHEATS he STEALS and he hits Rey with a tag title. Eddie applies the El Paso Lasso and Rey taps.
Winners and New WWE Tag Team Champions: Los Guerreros in 19:25 As has been the case since the inception of those belts, the WWE Tag Team Titles are put up in yet another great match. The Smackdown Six are on a roll and it continues here. A good showing of how tag team wrestling should be done. ****1/4
Christopher Nowinski comes out instead of the start of the Elimination Chamber. I swear, this dude had the most potential of any of the early Tough Enough participants. He disses New Yorkers and their sports team before Matt Hardy VERSION 1 joins us. Matt keeps the room at a toasty 75 degrees and he only drinks low fat milk. He teases being a face by saying New Yorkers aren't stupid, but then classifies them as losers because the arena isn't overflowing with Mattitude. The Version 1 character was golden in my eyes. They continue to debate if New York is full of losers or stupid people until a familiar siren is heard. The place absolute goes NUTS for the debut of SCOTT STEINER. This pop doesn't get talked about as much as it should, probably because his WWE run was terrible, but this was the right place to debut him. He suplexes both guys around the ring and the place continues to go nuts. Jim Ross pisses me off throughout this by calling him the “Big Booty Daddy”, it's the “Big Bad Booty Daddy.”
Shawn Michaels and his stupid haircut are interviewed by Terri Runnels but it's interrupted by RNN BREAKING NEWS! I totally loved this. Randy Orton and his own goofy haircut informs us of where to e-mail his get well cards to and he gives us a dumb smile. We then get the video package for the Elimination Chamber to the tune of “Always” by Saliva. It's awesome. Triple H gets interviewed and puts over the match.
This show seems to be stalling as now Eric Bischoff comes out and enters the Elimination Chamber. I do have to admit the Chamber is a badass looking structure. His promo goes over the rules and puts over the match.
World Heavyweight Championship Elimination Chamber Triple H (c) vs. Booker T vs. Chris Jericho vs. Kane vs. Rob Van Dam vs. Shawn Michaels Jericho's “King of my World” theme is performed at The World by Saliva and he's one half of the World Tag Team Champions here. Speaking of themes, Kane's “Slow Chemical” is still one of my all time favorite entrance songs. RVD and Triple H start things off and RVD counters a backdrop that sends HHH onto the steel outside. You would think that HHH would figure out that he shouldn't try to Pedigree someone who is right next to the ropes. RVD throws the Champion into the steel so many times that the door comes unlatched. It's been like three minutes and the Game is bleeding. RVD hits a monkey flip and rolling thunder onto the steel. RVD climbs on top of Jericho's chamber, so Jericho decides to be a douche and he pulls his leg from inside. This doesn't help Hunter, who is still getting worked over by RVD when five minutes hits and Jericho enters. He ducks a cross body from RVD, who latches onto the cage in a Spider-Man like move, before turning and hitting a cross body anyway. Fun spot. Shortly after, Jericho and HHH begin to double team RVD. Van Dam eventually stops this by front flipping over Jericho and he's been the MVP of the match so far.
Booker T comes in next, cleans house and it's SPINAROONIE time. He gets into it for a bit with his future tag team partner, RVD. RVD calls for the Five Star on Triple H, but climbs atop a chamber. He nails it and, if memory serves me right, nearly kills Triple H because he injures his throat badly. Earl Hebner throws up the “x” while Booker eliminates RVD with a missile dropkick at 13:40. Kane comes in at the fifteen minute mark and, being the fresh monster, feeds on his opposition. Kane throws Jericho through the bulletproof glass in a spot that gets a big reaction from the crowd. At the 17:43 mark, Booker T is eliminated after a chokeslam, followed by a Lionsault. Jericho is busted open as Kane pounds away. Kane misses a big elbow drop and now the bloodied pairing of Jericho and HHH try to eliminate him. Shawn Michaels enters to a big pop for his second match in four years. He comes in hot and is the only real fan favorite left. I mean, Kane is popular, but the crowd was more into Booker and RVD than him. Kane chokeslams all three guys and signals that it's over. His Tombstone to HHH is countered and he's pushed into Sweet Chin Music from HBK. Kane sits up like a beast though, but is put down with a Pedigree and Lionsault at 22:53.
Jericho throws Shawn into the cage a bit and the heels are working together against him. Michaels ends up bleeding as well but he's fighting back hard. He goes to piledriver Jericho but it's reversed into a back drop. Back inside, Shawn hits HHH with a flying forearm and nips up, only to be bulldogged down by Jericho. He hits the Lionsault but Shawn kicks out! Shawn whips out a moonsault of his own on Jericho for two. Talk about being ready to be back in the ring. Jericho and HHH end up fighting and HHH winds up in the Walls of Jericho. DX lives because Shawn saves HHH with Sweet Chin Music and pins Jericho to get rid of him at 30:43. I feel that Triple H and HBK being the last two was way too telegraphed. It makes sense from a story perspective though and it's worth it after their SummerSlam classic. They fight outside and HHH slingshots Shawn through the glass of another Chamber. He honestly looks like he might be dead. They take a while to get in the ring so Shawn is able to kick out. Shawn's comeback is stopped by the DEADED knee from HHH. He comes back anyway and climbs to the top of a Chamber. He hits en elbow off of it and the crowd can sense the end is near. Shawn starts to tune up the band, and I have to do a side bar here because I always wondered why nobody ever heard this coming. Anyway, HHH catches the foot and nails the Pedigree. He covers and only gets two, so he tries another Pedigree but gets back body dropped. Shawn hits Sweet Chin Music and covers to win for an enormous pop!
Winner and New World Heavyweight Champion: Shawn Michaels in 39:21 The first Elimination Chamber would not be the best but it was damn good. Great even. Everybody got to do their part. RVD had cool spots, Booker did his Spinaroonie and got an elimination, Kane looked like a beast, Jericho was his usual self, HHH was the iron man and Shawn had the special moment. Really good. ****
Shawn gets the confetti filled celebration and it's well earned.
Overall: 9/10; Incredible. I remembered how great SummerSlam was but forgot how good Survivor Series was. The worst rating I gave out was just under three stars. Every single match was at the very least fun and we got all new Champions which is always intriguing. Seriously, one of the better shows I've reviewed and one of the best Survivor Series Pay-Per-Views.

Great Survivor Series '02 review man. That was my favorite PPV of 2002 followed by SummerSlam. The rest of them are mostly forgettable besides WrestleMania X8.

I'll be slowing down on my Random Reviews and my through the years in 2002 ones because a website that I write for has asked me to review all previous Night of Champions so I'm going to do that. I can post those here if anyone is interested.

Night of Champions 2008 June 29th, 2008 – American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas – Attendance: 16,151
So, I'm taking a break from my usual “Through the Years” and “Random Network Reviews” stuff to review the history of Night of Champions. As part of the buildup to the 2014 edition of this show, it was suggested to me that I review the previous incarnations and my readers seemed to like the idea so here we go. Now, in 2007 the WWE presented Vengeance: Night of Champions, but I decided to only review the shows just named Night of Champions. The premise of the event is for every single title to be defended and it's a really cool idea.
The opening video package highlights every champion and then focuses on the two big title matches. Those seem to be Edge defending the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista while Triple H puts the WWE Title on the line against John Cena. The Game is looking to avenge his WrestleMania 22 loss to John Cena. The commentary team from Smackdown is Jim Ross and Mick Foley while Raw is headed up by Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler.
WWE Tag Team Championship John Morrison and The Miz (c) vs. Finlay and Hornswoggle Man, the WWE Tag Team Titles were so pretty. I don't have an issue with midget wrestling, I find it entertaining, but Hornswoggle should not be in a WWE Tag Team Title match. That being said, I see why they chose to open with this because the crowd was hot for him. Miz and Morrison try to isolate him early on but Finlay loves to fight, comes in and hits stereo seated sentons with his son. The Champions now double team Finlay and work him over. This is interesting because Finlay can't make the hot tag to his son can he? Well Hornswoggle tags himself in and hits a head scissors on Miz. He even gets a near fall and Morrison kicks him in the back as he runs off the ropes because cheap shots to midgets are golden for cheap heat. Hornswoggle actually gets in offense and nearly tags his dad but eats a double clothesline. Miz misses the Awesome Clothesline in the corner but tags Morrison before Hornswoggle can tag his dad. Morrison slaps him up but toys wit him too long and he wriggles free to tag Finlay. He connects with the Celtic Cross but as Hornswoggle goes for the Tadpole Splash, Morrison slams him from the top and puns him with a hook of the leg.
Winners and Still WWE Tag Team Champions: John Morrison and The Miz in 8:48 The crowd was hot for this and John Morrison and The Miz played their heel roles well. It served its purpose and did what it had to. **
Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole take us back to the only other one on one match between John Cena and Triple H from WrestleMania 22 where Cena made Triple H tap out. I remember this being the first time that the Cena hate was loud on a big stage. Because Triple H was drafted to Smackdown, there was no World Title on Raw so everyone assumed either John Cena or Batista would bring a belt to Raw.
WWE United States Championship Matt Hardy (c) vs. Chavo Guerrero w/ Bam Neely I think it's funny that the Cruiserweight Title is one of the banners on the stage, but they cheaply wrote ECW on it to pass it off as a title that would be defended tonight. Speaking of ECW, there's an ECW referee for this Smackdown match. Basic wrestling sequence to open things until the crowd starts to chant “Let's Go Hardy!” Matt was on the fat side of his career here. Chavo goes for the knee and works it on the post. He applies a lazy looking submission before turning it into a different submission. He goes for a swanton bomb of sorts, but Hardy rolls out of the way and they're down until the dramatic count of...three. Matt gets in some offense on one leg and is selling very well. He hits the Side Effect for two and goes to the second rope. He does his stupid yell and hits a weak looking elbow. He goes up again but Chavo pulls him off and it's half crab time. Matt reaches the ropes but ends up back in the half crab less than a minute later. He gets the ropes again and Chavo goes for Three Amigos, which gets a lot boos. Before the third amigo though, Matt counters with a Twist of Fate to retain.
Winner and Still WWE United States Champion: Matt Hardy in 9:20 Some good psychology here. Chavo found a body part, focused on it and Matt sold it like a champ. Chavo looked good and Matt was resilient until the end. ***
We now get a recap of the absurdly stupid Mr. McMahon's Million Dollar giveaway. It ends with the stage falling apart and injuring Vince. Triple H and Edge even broke character to sell the moment but I don't think that anything ever even came of this. Next we cut to the ECW announce team and I totally forgot they were here. Oh my god it's Mike motherin' Adamle. Tazz is there too but whatever.
ECW Championship Kane (c) vs. Big Show vs. Mark Henry “Slow Chemical” is easily one of the best theme songs in WWE history. I totally expect this to be a slug fest and these guys wisely go right for it. Don't try and be what you're not fellas. Kane gets knocked outside and we get a preview of the 2011 World Heavyweight Title feud as Show and Henry go at it. Neither guy really gets a big advantage until Show slams Henry. Trainers and doctors come to check on Kane who landed awkwardly when he fell out of the ring. We get a very nonathletic version of the double clothesline spot that gives Kane the time to get involved and hit a flying clothesline. He hits a few more shots in the corner before he and Show double chokeslam Henry. The former tag team champions get into it and Kane busts out an enziguri. He tries another flying clothesline but is caught with a chokeslam. Kane kicks out though and Show is pissed. He decides to climb up top for some reason and Kane suplexes him off. Mark Henry instantly hits the World's Strongest Splash on Kane to win.
Winner and New ECW Champion: Mark Henry in 8:16 Not very good. It was slower than I even expected between these three. Kane's injury was an odd thing to throw in here. *1/2
Eve Torres interviews Batista and asks if he will bring the World Title to Raw. He says he will and that he's going to be the man on Raw. John Cena is like “OH NO YOU CAN'T TAKE MY SPOT”. They go face to face and are interrupted by CM Punk, who says he wants one of them to win the title, shows off his Money in the Bank briefcase and leaves.
World Tag Team Championship Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly (c) vs. Ted Dibiase and a Mystery Partner Ted Dibiase's “Priceless” theme is terrible, even worse than his auto tuned garbage of his Smackdown singles run. Dibiase says that his partner is running late and wants to wait ten minutes. He chooses to start on his own and when Cody goes to start, he demands Holly. Cody tags in Holly and DDTs him instantly. Dibiase introduces his partner as Cody Rhodes, gets the tag and hits Dream Street to end it.
Winners and New World Tag Team Champions: Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase in 1:28 Obviously, I can't give this a real rating due to what happened. It served it's purpose though and was the start of a fun tag team. No Rating
Todd Grisham is in a luxury suite with John “Bradshaw” Layfield. He's upset that he doesn't have a match on this show in his home state. His promo goes on for too long, no matter how good he is at this character.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Chris Jericho (c) vs. Kofi Kingston This is shortly after Jericho threw Shawn Michaels through the Jeritron 5000 and right before he engaged in the incredible feud with him. He cuts a pre-match promo on Shawn Michaels and Lance Cade is shown outside. When he returned in late 2007, Jericho was fizzling out because he was doing more of the same but he got to show off a more aggressive side here and it worked for him. Kofi meanwhile, was being incredibly athletic with leap frogs, baseball slides, and a dive to the outside. Once outside though, Jericho's aggressiveness takes over and he rams Kofi into the apron. Jericho hits a nice suplex from the apron back in but only gets two with it. Jericho uses an abdominal stretch and continues to be rather vicious. Kofi counters a second rope back suplex into a pinning combination for two. They get up at the same time and Kofi starts to mount a rally. Jericho, however, in his infinite awesomeness, counters the Boom Drop in mid-air into the Walls of Jericho! Kofi counters into a small package for two and hits the Boom Drop for another near fall. The crowd is really into this now. Jericho gets the Walls on and it's more Liontamer than Walls which is outstanding. Shawn Michaels comes in through the crowd and takes out Cade with Sweet Chin Music. Jericho knocks him off the apron, allowing Kingston to hit Trouble in Paradise and win the belt.
Winner and New Intercontinental Champion: Kofi Kingston in 10:59 I really enjoyed this. Kofi Kingston looked good and Chris Jericho stayed strong because of the HBK distraction. Jericho seemed to be enjoying the more aggressive offense he got to do and of course, he puts over the young talent. ***1/4
Shawn Michaels re-injured his eye and is helped to the back by officials, but Jericho catches up to them and punches him in the eye. Shawn sells like a champ as always.
Vickie Guerrero, Edge and Alicia Fox, before her debut as an in-ring competitor are all shown in Vickie's office as they prepare for the upcoming nuptials . Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder come in and aren't confident on Edge's chances tonight and he talks about how good he is.
WWE Women's Championship Mickie James (c) vs. Katie Lea Burchill w/ Paul Burchill I'd like to point out that I totally miss Mickie James and I also really enjoyed Katie Lea. Sister Burchill gets three near falls within the first minute and that makes sense because Katie holds two pins on Mickie coming into this. STORYTELLING. Mickie gets on the offensive, shout something and climbs to the top, so Katie goes outside to talk strategy with Paul. Inside, Katie targets the left shoulder of the Champion and she is selling it well. Mickie stupidly tries a clothesline with her left arm and hurts herself, so Katie hits a single arm DDT. I've always respected that move. Mickie hits her hurricanrana in the corner as sign guy gets back to his seat in the front row. DIVAS MATCHES AREN'T BATHROOM BREAKS GUY! James calls for the Mick-DT and just like Matt Hardy, I don't know why she has to do a weird yell before the move. Katie counters into an armbar but Mickie survives. She ends up hitting the Mick-DT from out of nowhere and keeps the belt.
Winner and Still WWE Women's Champion: Mickie James in 7:21 Solid little match. It's a shame that Katie Lea didn't get more chances after this. The arm work was well done and well sold. The crowd didn't much care for it which hurt. **
We see the results of a poll on who will bring a title back to Raw. 32% for Batista, 31% for both, 30% for John Cena and 7% for neither. A recap is now shown for the build to Edge/Batista.
World Heavyweight Championship Edge (c) vs. Batista Early on, Edge is overwhelmed by Batista's huge power advantage. Edge ends up being his cunning self and knocking Batista outside and into the announce table. Edge stomps away when Batista gets in the ring. He knocks him outside again and seems to be trying to win in any possible way as he is looking for a countout. You know, I don't think there is anybody that Edge had bad chemistry with. He does try a rear naked choke but Batista counters. His attempt at momentum is stopped when he eats a drop toe hold into the turnbuckle. Things start to become a slug fest, so Edge wisely hits a neckbreaker because he wants no part of this. The referee might be Micky James, they call him Micky Henson but I know that Mickie James shared a name with a referee. Not sure if it's him though. Edge gets a near fall with a sunset flip type rollup and runs into a huge clothesline from The Animal. Both guys are down until the count of nine and Batista delivers some big shoulder thrusts. Edge gets caught in the Black Hole/Boss Man Slam and then Batista hits his terrible Spear for two. Batista hits a big slam and signals for the Batista Bomb. Edge counters with the Edgecution but only gets two. Vickie gets wheeled out to the ring by Hawkins and Ryder as Batista leaps over Edge's Spear. That was surprising. Batista hits a spinebuster and Vickie pulls the referee to stop the count. Edge goes for the Spear again but gets tossed into the corner. Edge pulls the official outside and punches him in the face. Vickie calls for another referee and it's Chavo Guerrero! His theme even plays. “OOOH CHAVO”. Batista gets his hands on Vickie as La Familia stands there shouting and not helping. He press slams her onto them, but Edge comes in with the World Title and lays him out. Chavo comes in and counts the three.
Winner and Still World Heavyweight Champion: Edge in 16:47 This was fun. Edge plays the heel so perfectly and Batista looked like a beast as he should. If memory serves right, CM Punk would win the World Title from Edge the next night to get a belt on Raw. Even the interference made sense because Edge was an opportunist and Batista was an animal. ***1/2
Batista is pissed in the ring for a while before they finally cut away. Triple H is shown walking towards the arena and is interviewed by Todd Grisham. He keeps it short and sweet, saying he's going to do what he should've done two years ago. The video package talks about moments that all wrestling fans remember and it features the infamous “WITH A TEAR IN MY EYE” promo from Flair and first WWE Title wins from Eddie Guerrero, Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels and more. Good stuff to make this seem like a HUGE deal.
WWE Championship Triple H (c) vs. John Cena Triple H is incredibly tanned compared to John Cena and it's distracting. As he gets the upper hand early on, he DX crotch chops in Cena's direction to a pop. I assume that Cena will “you can't see me” Hunter if he gets the advantage. I was wrong, he salutes him instead but it's the same message. Things sort of break down as Cena hits a fisherman suplex and goes for the “FIVE MOVES OF DOOM” but HHH wisely dodges a shoulder block and Cena crashes to the outside. Cena fights back and this time, hits the shoulder block/shoulder block/spin out move that I can't remember the name of combo. HHH stops him before he gets the Five Knuckle Shuffle though and hits the high knee. VINTAGE TRIPLE H. Cena hits a big bulldog and goes for the STFU but HHH shoves him off. Five Knuckle Shuffle attempt is again stopped, this time by another high knee. You would think Cena would learn to not try it by now. Double A spinebuster from the Game and he's got his mind on victory. Cena counters and sends HHH into the corner, he badly oversells and falls outside, injuring his knee. This is a kayfabe injury folks. Like a shark smelling blood, Cena goes for the leg, wrapping it around the post a few times. Cena goes for the FU in the ring, HHH reverses and hits the Pedigree. He only gets two because he takes a bit to cover due to his knee. They are both down and take until the count of eight to get up but once they do, Cena connects with the FU. He takes long to cover and only gets two. They're both down again until eight and then trade right hands. The crowd is clearly pro Triple H. Cena ducks a shot, and third time's the charm for Five Knuckle Shuffle. Triple H holds the ropes to block the FU but Cena reverses the Pedigree into the STFU! It's a good callback for WrestleMania 22. HHH counters into the Crippler Crossface! Ohmygod. You can't do that move. Because he's not human, Cena gets to his feet from this and tries the FU but it's blocked and it's Pedigree time. The Game gets the three.
Winner and Still WWE Champion: Triple H in 19:49 Two of the best of all time put on another good one. They have really good chemistry and John Cena steps up in another big match. That's a clean loss of his that I totally forgot about. ****
Overall: 7/10. Good. I thought this was an enjoyable Pay-Per-View. The main event is great, while the World Title and Intercontinental Title are both really good. Throw in a solid Women's Title match and a surprising United States Title match and that's a lot of good. The two tag team matches were pretty poor though and the ECW Title match was just not good, which hurt the score.

Night of Champions 2009 July 26th, 2009 – Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Attendance: 17,774
Unlike the 2008 Night of Champions, I remember a decent amount of stuff from 2009. I know that this was in the midst of the awesome CM Punk/Jeff Hardy rivalry that would last from Extreme Rules in June until SummerSlam in August. It also featured a WrestleMania rematch for the WWE Title just like 2008 did. Triple H, John Cena and Randy Orton met in a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 24 and they would do so here again at Night of Champions. My uncle and cousin were at this show and they really enjoyed it, so hopefully, it holds up as a good show. Let's see if this can top the 2008 edition in the ongoing look at the history of Night of Champions.
As always, the opening video package is well done and mainly focuses on the two big Title matches, but does make mention and show other Champions which is a nice touch. We go straight to a title match already. Commentary team tonight features Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler.
WWE Unified Tag Team Championship Chris Jericho and a Mystery Partner (c) vs. Legacy For the second straight year, Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase are involved in a Tag Team Title match with a mystery partner. For those who don't know, Edge and Chris Jericho won the Unified Tag Team Titles, but Edge got injured so Jericho needed a new partner. We're taken to a short video of Edge discussing his injury before Jericho introduces his partner as Big Show. I remember being letdown at the time. In a precursor to WrestleMania 28, Big Show and Cody Rhodes start, as Show tosses him around the ring for a bit. After he dominates for a bit, Jericho comes in and works with Cody. I'd love an extended program between them, especially during Cody's 2012 IC Title run. You can tell Ted watched his dad growing up as he gets in some cheap shots on Jericho that turn the tide. This is tough for the crowd because both teams are heels. Jericho continues to get worked over, as I guess the hot tag will be to Big Show eventually. Dibiase hits a big powerslam and Legacy is looking rather impressive. Show makes a blind tag and he spears Ted Dibiase in half. His pin is broken up by Cody Rhodes, but he gets tossed out of the ring. Cody skins the cat and dropkicks Show. Dibiase runs right into the Codebreaker though and Show applies the Colossal Clutch on him, forcing him to tap.
Winners and Still WWE Unified Tag Team Champions: Chris Jericho and Big Show in 9:32 Despite being let down by the choice of Big Show and this match, I loved the Jeri-Show run. The Colossal Clutch looked brutal, but with both teams being heels, the crowd wasn't as into it as they could have been. **1/4
Josh Matthews is backstage and he introduces the World Heavyweight Champion, CM Punk. When Punk is asked about his match with Jeff Hardy tonight, he takes the microphone and heads out into the crowd. Punk torches the crowd for supporting someone like Jeff Hardy over him. Punk with a microphone is always golden.
ECW Championship Tommy Dreamer (c) vs. Christian Josh Matthews and Todd Grisham are now on commentary for this ECW contest. So in 2005, Christian went to TNA and wasn't pinned on television for about two years. Then he came to ECW and pretty much dominated too, so he had a long stretch of nearly never losing. Early on, Tommy Dreamer clearly has Christian well scouted as he countered some of his key stuff. Christian causes Dreamer to hit his face on the apron and follows with a baseball slide. His dive to the outside misses its mark, but Dreamer actually hits a front flip off the apron. Did not expect that. They go back inside, and Christian smartly decides to work Tommy's back. Tommy counters the Killswitch, but gets caught in a sleeper hold, only to drop back and squash Christian. Christian's high risk attempts continue to fail as Tommy stops another of his dives and sets him up in a tree of (Joey Lawrence) woe. Baseball slide follows in and although his DDT is blocked, he still hits a Sky High. YOU BETTER RECOGNIZE! Captain Charisma reverses a pump handle into a reverse DDT for two. He goes up top again and his dropkick again fails. Tommy puts him in the Texas Cloverleaf and Striker says he learned it from training with Dean Malenko. I love little mentions like that on commentary. We get a series of pinfall attempts and reversals until a Christian dropkick finally connects. Killswitch is countered to the DDT which is reversed to the Killswitch and the title switches as well.
Winner and New ECW Champion: Christian in 8:28 Two guys just went out and did their best with eight minutes. If my memory is right, this was Tommy's last WWE match and he went out in a good way. ***
Christian and Tommy Dreamer show each other respect before Tommy walks off and lets Christian celebrate. It's a commercial for 12 Rounds, which was a pretty bad movie. It's for the “extreme cut” which must be wrapped in barbed wire or something. Todd Grisham now interviews Jeri-Show and they talk about how they don't have to be good friends to work well. Jericho reaches for the microphone at one point and Show thinks he's going for a handshake and gets awkwardly left hanging.
WWE United States Championship Six Pack Challenge Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Carlito vs. Jack Swagger vs. MVP vs. Primo vs. The Miz I totally miss Jack Swagger's cocky character from his ECW and early Raw run. As soon as the bell rings, a brawl ensues but Carlito is sure to avoid Primo. Miz hits Primo with a neckbreaker that Michael Cole calls a backbreaker. Good going. Kofi and Carlito do an awesome little athletic sequence that ends with them crashing into each other. Miz and Swagger double team Primo in what has to be considered some sort of hate crime. Carlito goes for a springboard move but gets shoved outside and MVP hits Swagger with a nice belly to belly. Carlito does a pretty badass springboard anyway to take out MVP on the outside. Kofi flies around now and dropkicks Swagger. He follows with the Boom Drop but Miz breaks up the pin. He hits Swagger with the Awesome clothesline and goes up top, so Primo follows and it's time to set up a tower of doom. Kofi and Primo second rope suplex Miz while Swagger powerbombs both of them. Primo finally has his hands on Carlito and they cross body into each other. Kofi gets slammed hard by Swagger as Miz is dumped outside. MVP takes Swagger and himself out with a cross body. Kofi and the Colons have a bunch of near falls in a row and the Colons go to work together but it gets stopped. MVP knocks Swagger down and he's “BALLIN”. He hits the Playmaker right as Miz hits him with the Skull Crushing Finale. Primo stupidly believes in Carlito's teamwork and he eats a Backstabber. This allows Kofi to hit Trouble in Paradise from out of nowhere to retain.
Winner and Still WWE United States Champion: Kofi Kingston in 8:35 Yes, it was pretty much just spot followed by spot and so on, but dammit, it was fun. You expect something like that from these guys and it was an enjoyable match. ***1/4
Randy Orton gets interviewed in the back and cuts a very Randy Orton like promo on his match tonight.
WWE Women's Championship Michelle McCool (c) vs. Melina Todd Grisham and Jim Ross are on commentary for Smackdown and they should be the best combination of the night. After being the first Divas Champion, Michelle McCool became the first person to win both that and the Women's Title by beating Melina at the previous Pay-Per-View. Before the match even starts, McCool knocks Melina off the apron when she goes for her split. Melina doesn't take too kindly to this as she fires away on Michelle with kicks in the corner. She goes for a rope hung move but misses and crashes to the outside. That turns the tide as McCool applies a sick looking half Boston crab, or as I like to call it, a Maple Leaf. Melina breaks it by reaching the ropes. McCool hits a DDT on the guardrail and it doesn't look great, but it was a cool idea. McCool now misses and falls outside, so Melina wraps her legs around Michelle's head and slams it into the apron. These ladies are being creative. McCool gets stuck in 619 position and Melina drives her knees into her back. Now McCool gets set up on the second turnbuckle and Melina stomps on her. Melina barely connects with a sloppy spinning heel kick for two. McCool hits a belly to belly but Melina comes back with a West Coast Pop. The later version when Rey just sat on people. McCool turns the pin attempt around and keeps the gold.
Winner and Still WWE Women's Champion: Michelle McCool in 6:12 A harder hitting match than most Divas matches I've seen. I have to give them credit for being creative and trying a lot of things they don't normally do. It wasn't the crispiest match but they tried. **3/4
WWE Championship Randy Orton (c) vs. John Cena vs. Triple H These are three of the biggest names of the 2000's and they've had two Triple Threat matches, but neither was able to main event their respective Pay-Per-Views which is interesting. Randy Orton wants no part of this to start so he goes outside but HHH and Cena corner him. He runs back inside and the same thing happens. They take turn pounding away on him and he tries to leave, but that obviously fails. Cena hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle sequence and goes for the Attitude Adjustment but HHH knocks him outside. Orton nails him from behind and starts to work a methodical pace to slow things down. Orton connects with a powerslam that didn't look anywhere near as good as it has in the past three or so years. Cena stops his rally with a double top rope Fameasser. Orton's like “I CAN DO DOUBLE MOVES TOO” as he tries a double rope hung DDT but HHH and Cena counter. They're left in the ring and it's one like it was last year. Slug fest time and the crowd is behind The Game. Shoulder blocks from Cena but HHH stops them with the high knee and then the facebuster to the knee. FU countered into Pedigree, countered into SFTU that gets blocks and then HHH reverses the AA into a Spinebuster. Nice callback to their match last year. Pedigree on Cena but Orton pulls HHH out during his pin. Things spill to the announce table and HHH 's Pedigree attempt is countered into an STFU on the table. Back inside, Cena and Orton exchange shots until they go up top. HHH interrupts this and and ends up getting slingshot into Orton, who gets crotched on the top. STF applied on HHH and there's too many acronyms in this match. Orton gets up and tries to punt Cena but he moves and rolls him up for two. Orton gets up and starts to stomp and drop knees on his challengers. Cena is up and tries Five Knuckle Shuffle but HHH sends him outside. HHH goes all The Rock and puts Orton in a sloppy Sharpshooter. Cena enters and puts Orton in the STF at the same and he taps. Mike Chioda can't make a call because they don't know who he's tapping to. Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase hit the ring and beat on HHH and Cena. Cena goes to hit Cody with the AA, but Orton nails him with the RKO and retains.
Winner and Still WWE Champion: Randy Orton in 22:19 That was good, but I personally prefer their WrestleMania XXIV bout. There was nothing wrong with it, but there was also nothing special with it. ***
The future married couple, The Miz and Maryse, flirt backstage. She disses him when he goes for a kiss because he didn't win the United States Championship. He calls her a tease and I could not take my eyes off of her and her cleavage.
WWE Divas Championship Maryse (c) vs. Mickie James Good lord, Maryse is hot. She throws her jacket at Mickie before the bell but it's Mickie who is the aggressor as the match starts. Maryse does everything to avoid Mickie in the early goings. She does manage to knock James outside with a loud kick and the count reaches eight before Mickie gets back in. Maryse applies a camel clutch of sorts and its much prettier than when Iron Sheik, Muhammad Hassan or Rusev does it. She lets it go and tosses Mickie outside again but James hits a Lou Thez Press and RIGHT HANDS! RIGHT HANDS! THE RATTLESNAKE STRIKES! Sorry, that move gets me carried away. James misses a high risk move and Maryse fires away with right hands. Mickie builds momentum and hits a neckbreaker for two. She goes to top but Maryse slams her off. Maryse's DDT is countered and Mickie hits the Mick-DT to end it.
Winner and New Divas Champion: Mickie James in 8:36 Disappointing. Maryse was never great in the ring, but Mickie was always good. This seemed like it got too much time as it dragged a bit. *1/4
Josh Matthews interviews Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase, who are proud that while they lost, they cost John Cena and Triple H the match. We actually get a video package for this Intercontinental Title match, which is a rarity.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler w/ Maria Kanellis First Maryse and now Maria? I can't handle this. The Intercontinental Title received a bit of a revival during this time as Rey Mysterio was hot off of a great feud with Chris Jericho and until about the end of 2009, IC Title matches were show stealers. Fun fact, Dolph Ziggler went to high school in Lakewood, Ohio, which is not far from where I currently live. Both guys get early near falls and seem to be trying to feel each other out. Dolph uses a headlock but is very aggressive. They cut to Maria a few times and she is so hot. They botch a head scissors spot from Rey but make up for it with an awesome buckle bomb from Dolph. He whips Rey into the corner hard and gets his third or fourth near fall already. He does his headstand headlock but the crowd doesn't react to it. The jerks. Another head scissors sends Dolph shoulder first into the post and he follows with the West Coast Pop and a springboard cross body for two. Dolph gets sent outside and Rey connects with another West Coast Pop off the apron. Back inside, Rey counters a Tiger Bomb into a hurricanrana but misses the 619. Dolph applies the Masterlock, because NOBODY UNDER SIX FEET HAS EVER BROKEN HIS MASTERLOCK. Rey breaks it, ruining that, but Dolph puts it back on. He's working a more methodical pace than he does now. Rey counters into a pin and both men get near falls. Dolph hits an odd jawbreaker and gets another near fall. Lots of those in this match. Rey tries a high risk move but Dolph dropkicks him in mid-air for two near falls. He charges at Rey in the corner but misses and hits the corner oddly. Rey sets up for a top rope hurricanrana, but Dolph gets him on his shoulders and hits a second rope gut buster for the closest near fall yet. Dolph goes for a slam but it's countered and he ends up in 619 position. Rey connects and, following a splash, gets the three.
Winner and Still WWE Intercontinental Champion: Rey Mysterio in 14:20 This is the match that really made Dolph Ziggler stick out to me. It was the first time that I thought he had something. Really good stuff and they would best it the following month at SummerSlam. The only issue was that the crowd was rather dead due to Dolph still being a relative unknown. ***3/4
The build up promo for the main event focuses on how CM Punk hurt his eye against Jeff Hardy at the Bash and then kicked the referee, which caused people to say he got disqualified on purpose. Then it turned to CM Punk targeting Jeff's troubled lifestyle and I have to say, this was the perfect feud for CM Punk. It was one of my all time favorites.
World Heavyweight Championship CM Punk (c) vs. Jeff Hardy I just want to point out how awesome it is that these two got to main event a Pay-Per-View that featured Randy Orton, Triple H and John Cena in the same match. Some basic stuff starts the match until Punk goes for the early GTS. Jeff counters and tries the Twist of Fate but that's stopped too. Hardy gets knocked outside so Punk goes for a suicide dive and misses. A nice bit of storytelling because he went all Hardy with the risky move and it backfired. And of course, Jeff tries a dive outside and misses too. Punk is all about taking a countout victory but Jeff is in right before ten. Punk applies a bow and arrow to wear down Jeff. Punk sets up for a second rope suplex but Jeff reverses and hits a sitout inverted suplex. Jeff starts to get his offense going with a 90's inverted atomic drop, leg drop and dropkick. However, when he tries Whisper in the Winds, Punk knocks him down. Punk hits his awesome knee strike in the corner, but Jeff blocks the bulldog and hits Whisper in the Winds for two. He tries the Swanton Bomb but Punk sits up and Jeff crashes and burns. Punk hits a nice backbreaker and locks on a badass looking dragon sleeper. Like, it seriously looks like it hurts a lot. Punk slaps Hardy around but gets hit with the Twist of Fate from out of nowhere. The shirt is off and Jeff goes up top. His Swanton Bomb is stopped by Punk's knees and that gets the Champion a near fall. Punk hits the Go to Sleep but somehow Jeff kicks out. Punk covers twice more but can't get it and he's in disbelief. Punk takes his belt and goes to walk off, but Jeff stops him and brings him back inside. A Twist of Fate and Swanton Bomb later and we have a new Champion.
Winner and New World Heavyweight Championship: Jeff Hardy in 14:56 I really love this feud and I really enjoy their matches. The best match of the night and a surprise result since Jeff was on his way out. ****
Overall: 8/10. Great. I don't remember this show being this good but man I really had fun with this. The only matches that weren't good was the opener and the Divas Title match. The Women's Title match was really good, the WWE Title match was solid and the United States Championship bout was fun. The last two matches made the show though as they're both great and you should go out and watch them.

I have the whole CM Punk and Jeff hardy feud on DVD,every segment and match from Raw and Smack down and every PPV match. CM Punk was awesome in his heel run here with some great anti drugs and anti Hardy promos. I might just re watch the whole feud again, its that good.
(Punk dressed as Hardy a week after he had him fired after the cage match, my personnel favorite ha)

September 24, 2000, at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Right to Censor def. The Dudley Boyz and The Acolytes. 8 Man tag. Val Venis has now joined up with the RTC, he split with Trish after she was pinned at Summerslam causing him to lose the Intercontinental title. Match is nothing special, Bubba gets the hot tag from D-Von and cleans house, Dudley Device gets 2 after Goodfather breaks up the pin, he gets thrown out of the ring, Val ducks a punch from Bubba Ray and the opponent gets hit with a super kick from Steven Richards, Venis gets the pin. Faces beat up the Heels after the match and Richards is about to be powerbombed through a table but is saved by his partners. But he then gets beaten up by all of his opponents and finally does get put through a table by Bubba. 1 Star. Tazz def. Jerry Lawler. Leather Strap match. So since last month, Tazz said he'd had enough of being constantly screwed in the WWF and that if he tries get his hands on Lawler again, JR or someone else will screw him. So, commissioner Foley said that Tazz and Jerry could not touch each other until this pay per view, otherwise the match was off. The heel had chocked out King the week before this announcement was made with a leather strap, so that's where the stipulation came from. In an attempt to get at Lawler without touching him, Tazz would act as a commentator, ring announcer and even as a fan sat behind the announcers, where he would throw popcorn at Cole and King, constantly mocking his opponent, all of this was pretty entertaining. The street thug chocks the commentator with the strap to start infront of the announce table and Jim Ross, whom he taunts. Tazz no sells the piledriver for the second straight PPV, this time he does it three times in one match, but collapses after getting back to his feet after the third. Ref goes down after Tazz kicks him when he is getting chocked by the opponent, in comes a debuting Raven to a big pop, we are in ECW city after all. He DDTs the face, helping out his fellow ECW legend. Tazzmission on Lawler gets the submission finish. 1.5 Stars. Stone Cold arrives in his jeep to find out who ran him over and is immediately stopped by Kevin Kelly who tries to interview him, Austin says: ''Tonight, I ain't answering the questions, I'm asking them.'' And then pushes the interview away. Michael Cole joins us on commentary. Steve Blackman def. Al Snow, Crash, Test, Funaki, and Perry Saturn. 10 Minute Time Limit match for the WWF Hardcore Championship. Al Snow comes out dressed as an Italian, he began dressing up as stereotypes from different European countries after he won the European title from Perry Saturn on Smackdown a few weeks prior. He gives a picture of Tony Danza, a dead fish and a pizza to both announce teams. Blackman superkicks Crash, and nails Saturn with a trash can lid as he attempts to give the champ a suicide dive to start. Holly picks up the title first after 4 minutes of the match gone. Perry then pins him a few seconds later after a trash can shot. Bad brawling in the crowd before everyone is back at ringside. The Lethal Weapon beats the hell out of everyone with the kendo stick and gets his title back after a stick shot to Saturn with a minute left of the match remaining. Everyone fights for the cover on the champion but the timer runs out and the PA native retains the title. In my opinion Blackman and Crash were the best ever Hardcore Champions. 1.5 Stars. Entertaining segment backstage as Angle crosses paths with Austin and offers him a mini gold medal, Steve says he will store the medal in a very special place: right up Kurt's ass and Stone Cold beats him up. Chris Jericho def. X-Pac. So X-Pac attacked Jericho backstage with nunchucks two weeks before this event and as a result the two began feuding. William Regal had debuted on the RAW before this pay per view and his first segment was with Jericho, it was better than this whole feud and would have rather seen them two go at it in the run up to this show, but we'll get to that later on in these series of reviews. For the second straight pay per view, X-Pac lowblows his opponent in full view of the ref, X-Factor only gets 2 though. Y2J gets the tap out victory with the Walls of Jericho to win the match. The heel attacks the victor with the chucks after the match. 1.5 Stars. Foley and Angle talk backstage, Kurt says he had a head cold and diarreha when he won his gold medal, what about the ''broken freakin' neck?'' Guess he hadn't start saying that yet. Mick makes Kurt's match with Triple H, which he is already the special referee for no DQ. Rock and Austin talk backstage about how ran Steve over, some guy named Joe who had been making backstage appearances in the Angle HHH feud pretty much stirring the pot and telling the guys rumours, he says he has information on how ran Stone Cold over. The Texas Rattlesnake doesn't wanna hear it and beats his ass. The Hardy Boyz def. Edge & Christian. Cage match for the WWF Tag Team Championship. After the Hardys became number one contenders for the titles, Edge & Christian began humiliating, embarrassing and making fun of them. This included having midget Hardyz come out and Matt, Jeff and Lita from the future (old guys) and they even watched some old clips of Matt and Jeff as kids in their OMEGA fed cutting bad promos and stuff. An hour in and we finally get the first good match of the night. Interesting thing in this match where Jeff is pushed out of the cage by Edge, leaving Matt on his own. I would say that was a stupid thing to do on Jeffs part but seen as Edge pushed him out, it's a smart move by the heels. Of course they ruin that when Jeff tries to get back into the cage despite waiting outside it for a good 5 minutes while his Brother was getting beaten up. But Edge & Christian trying to keep Jeff out of the cage is pretty good too though. Jeff beats up the ref on the outside to try and get the key to the door of the cage but the ref won't let him. Why? I thought Jeff was allowed back in? I Just wish they got rid of the door in cage matches, even back in 2000 it was an exhausted and stupid thing to have in the match. Hardy tries to get back in and has a chair, he gets taken out and the heels use the chair. Christian leaves the cage. My God the cage really is absolutely pointless in this match. He gets a second chair, locks the door, Matt is busted open, Edge puts the key in his pants. Matt ducks a concherto. Jeff throws a ladder at Christian who was dangling on the cage. Hardy uses a ladder to get on top of the cage, he does the whisper in the wind on Matt and Edge. As Christian is on the ladder on the outside, Lita runs in and low blows him and then gives him a hurricanarana off the ladder and onto the floor. The Hardys give Edge a concherto while on top of the cage, Edge was about to climb to the top but falls after being hit. The faces exit the cage to become the new Tag Team Champions. The first good match of the night finally and despite the confusing rules and at times pointlessness of the cage, this was an awesome match and the best of the pay per view. 3.5 Stars. Eddie Guerrero def. Rikishi. WWF Intercontinental Championship. So much like Hunter and Steph, Eddie and Chyna's relationship had always been on the rocks, this was after Chyna was seen hugging her former lover Triple H backstage by Guerrero. This was after the Ninth Wonder of the World had given the Game some relationship advice. Eddie believed Chyna still had feelings for the Cerebral Assassin, Kurt Angle would be brought into the picture after he tried to convince Eddie, HHH loved Chyna too. Angle would interfere in the twos match and hit both with chairs. Angle's part in the feud culminated when Kurt, Chyna and Eddie fought in a triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship, while seeming to console Chyna who had been hit by Angle, Guerrero seemed to accidentally pin his girlfriend and become the new champion. He would make it known to her that it was an accident and that he cared only for her and not the belt, though he had a villainous smile when he hugged her after saying this. The champ would be further inraged when he found out that his lover would be posing in nude pictures for Playboy. This led Guerrero to try and stop the pictures from being published much to the sadness of Chyna. He would even go as far as to try and enter the Playboy mansion and speak directly to Hugh Hefner in a very entertaining segment. While Eddie tried to tell Chyna, he had came to terms with her being in the magazine and that he was proud and happy for her, Rikishi whom was friends who her, and had various run ins with the IC champ in the previous weeks including defeating Chyna himself after Eddie was ''sick'', showed a video tape of Guerrero further trying to stop the pictures of Chyna in Playboy being seen. Once again this upset Chyna. Though Eddie proposed to Chyna and she accepted. All of this was very good and entertaining television and led to match a this pay per view. Eddie tries to leave but Chyna throws him back into the ring. Chyna stops the referee from counting three on a Banzai Drop, so they argue and Rikishi ends up giving her a super kick, which somehow is a DQ, stupid finish and bad match. Kishi does the Banzai on Chyna after this. 1 Star. Triple H def. Kurt Angle No DQ match with Mick Foley as special referee. So after hitting his wife by accident at Summerslam, Triple H had began to show signs of a face turn, after both him and Angle had been strictly kept heel in there feud thus far. He began to imply that Kurt wanting to be just friends with Steph and crying after he won his gold medal meant he was gay. This got over and lead to 'The Game' getting positive cheers, he been been attacked by Angle on the go home show for this pay per view with sledgehammer who has tapped ribs for this match and Kurt ended up kissing Stephanie. Foley announced himself as special referee to ensure this rivalry ends at Unforgiven. The 'Olympic Hero' sings Happy Birthday to McMahon before the match begins. Good psychology from Kurt as he straight away works over the ribs of Hunter. HHH goes for a Pedigree on the English announce table but Angle counters into a belly to belly and throws him onto the Spanish announce table. Angle continues to pound Helmsley's ribs and misses a moonsault, the' Cerebral Assassin' does a one armed Pedigree, as he doesn't have the strength to clutch the other arm of Kurt due to his hurt ribs. He signals for Steph to get in the ring, she does and kicks Angle in the groin and as H goes for another Pedigree to win the match. Very good match, good story told, I think Kurt should have won though, Steph should have sided with him, especially given what happens next month. Otherwise an awesome match. 3.5 Stars. Shane McMahon makes his return after falling off the Titantron scaffold structure at Summerslam, he comes out and tell us he knows who ran over Stone Cold, he says it was the man who made McMahon fall off the structure in their match: Steve Blackman and shows a video of Steve running over Ken Shamrock a year prior. He comes out and as he gets into the ring 'Shane O'Mac' bails to the outside as the glass breaks and out comes the 'Texas Rattlesnake'. He comes out to his new theme by 'Disturbed', I thought it was decent music, definitely better than what he would end up having later. The 'Lethal Weapon' tries to explain to Austin that he didn't run him over and tries to get at Shane, but Stone Cold keeps getting in his way, he gets a Stunner for his troubles. 'Young Simba' celebrates with the 'Bionic Redneck' over some 'Stevewesiers'. He eats a Stunner aswell, three infact. They save the reveal for the next night on the debut of WWF on 'TNN'. The Rock (c) def. Chris Benoit, Undertaker & Kane. Fatal 4 Way for the WWF Championship. So all three challengers wanted to be WWF Champion but a number one contender couldn't be determined due interference from each opponent in the various matches leading up to this show, as a result, a four way is made, no flashy storyline or angle, everyone just wants to be champ and all fight it out to do so. There is tons of referees' in the ring during the entrances in order to separate the wrestlers, which is a nice touch, wish they did this more often. Undertaker and Kane brawl in the ring to start, while Rock and Benoit brawl in the crowd and on the outside. Nothing really noteworthy until the ref gets bumped and and Rock and Undertaker got taken out with chairshots, Chris pins the 'Deadman' and Earl Hebner counts the three, but Taker's foot is on the rope. For the second pay per view this year, Benoit has won the WWF title, but like what happened at Fully Loaded 2000, Commissioner Mick Foley restarts the match. Kane, Undertaker and Rock come after the 'Rapid Wolverine' and more brawling insues. Decent back and forth with each guy getting their stuff in and the champ suffering the brute of the punishment. Rock ends up getting the Rock Bottom on Benoit as Kane and Undertaker are brawling on the outside for the finish. Decent main event, given the protection of Kane and Undertaker which is proven as the finish sees 'Rocky' snatch the win from out of no where and escapes by the skin of his teeth with the two monsters on the outside, though they brought the match down but it still made for an enjoyable main event and the false finish did add something same way it did at Fully Loaded. Through hell and high water, steelchairs' and chokeslams' The Rock is still the WWF Champion. 2 Stars. A three match show really, undercard is unimpressive but the big matches deliver, Austin's return, for what it was, was decent. The next night on RAW is where things heat up. I loved the Cage match and Angle vs HHH. Great matches and two I recommend. The rest is nothing major at all, TV in 2000 was the best WWF has ever been, January-August in my opinion, by September they kinda had alot on their plate with the XFL launching soon and they kinda took their eye off the ball a little, we still got good television just not the pinnacle of wrestling we were getting for the first 6 months of the year. 4.5/10.

Night of Champions 2010 September 19th, 2010 – Allstate Arena in Chicago, Illinois – Attendance: 13,851
So, after airing in June in 2008 and in July in 2009, Night of Champions moves to September in 2010. That's where it has stayed since then and this just so happens to take place in Chicago, a hotbed for wrestling. This show was the first after Nexus got destroyed by John Cena at SummerSlam. Both Cena and the Nexus leader, Wade Barrett would compete in a Six Pack Challenge for the WWE Championship on this card. I also remember this card featuring Kane vs. The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship and it features Daniel Bryan's first title match as he faces the Miz for the United States Title. Should be at least decent fun.
As is the case for the past two years of this show, the Champions are showcased in the intro video. There are seven titles on the line and eight matches tonight. The commentary team is Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and Matt Striker. I'm so happy Striker is there to save this team.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Dolph Ziggler (c) w/ Vickie Guerrero and Kaitlyn vs. Kofi Kingston Dolph and Kaitlyn was something that just completely worked. I loved their NXT Season 3 stuff. Also, if Dolph is disqualified or counted out, Kofi Kingston becomes the Champion. An athletic sequence to start as Striker talks about Vickie looking hot in her Lane Bryant outfit. Kofi knocks Dolph outside and Kaitlyn checks on him, so Vickie sends her to the back. Well, there goes my eye candy. Kofi misses a splash in the corner and crashes there. Michael Cole wants Vickie to do a book on tape so he can listen to her voice more. Kofi runs into a big boot from Dolph for two. Dolph wears down Kofi with a sleeper hold and when Kofi rallies, he eats a Fameasser for two. Dolph goes to another sleeper of sorts and hits a very high jumping elbow for a near fall. Kofi goes up and hits a cross body that Dolph jumped into to make it look better. SELLING. A series of reversals ends with a Lou Thez Press, RIGHT HANDS RIGHT HANDS THE RATTLESNAKE STRIKES. Boom Drop from Kofi and he signals for Trouble in Paradise. Dolph ducks and gets the Sleeper Hold, but Kofi counters into the SOS! He covers but Dolph gets his foot on the bottom rope. When he rolls outside, Kofi meets him with a lame looking splash. Inside, the Sleeper Hold is on again and Kofi fades but rallies. He breaks it and puts one of his own on! Dolph breaks it and Vickie goes to slap Kofi but Dolph shouts at her not to do it. Kofi tries to hit Trouble in Paradise while his back is turned but Dolph ducks and connects with the Zig Zag.
Winner and Still WWE Intercontinental Champion: Dolph Ziggler in 12:42 Good opener. Dolph continued to try and use his sleeper hold but Kofi had an answer for nearly everything. These two always had good chemistry. ***
ESPN's Todd Grisham interviews Edge about the Six Pack Challenge and his worries, but he's very confident. Basic stuff.
Big Show vs. CM Punk CM Punk gets a positive reaction but nothing compared to what he'd get at every Chicago show following Money in the Bank 2011. I'm pretty sure this is around when Punk started getting frustrated with the company. He was the best heel in the company but was in a useless match here. He cuts a promo on how much he loves Chicago but hates the people. Punk starts with kicks to the legs wisely, but Show headbutts him and stops that. Show chops Punk so hard that he falls over the top. Punk hits a knee to the face and then does an impressive front flip to the outside. I've never seen that to the outside. He rolls inside and is hoping for the countout win but Show is in at nine. Punk continues to be in the driver's seat until he jumps off the top and is met with a huge Spear. Show knocks out Punk and it's over.
Winner: Big Show in 4:43 Not much here. Punk impressed with a few things but this wasn't very important or memorable. **
Josh Matthews now interviews Chris Jericho about the Six Pack Challenge. Similar to Edge's promo, he's confident and brings up beating The Rock and Stone Cold in the same night, winning a Scramble Match and winning an Elimination Chamber.
WWE United States Championship The Miz (c) w/ Alex Riley vs. Daniel Bryan Daniel Bryan is rocking some super generic music. In the first wrestling sequence, Miz overpowers Bryan but his hip toss is blocked and Bryan attempts to lock on the LeBelle Lock but Miz escapes. Bryan hits a huge dropkick and goes back to working on the arm. Michael Cole is incredibly annoying with “Miz Boner” going for the whole match. Miz actually uses some submissions early on that target Bryan's arm to hopefully negate the LeBelle Lock. Bryan counters a hammerlock in a very cool way with a backflip, but he still gets a shoulderbreaker from Miz. Striker is on point tonight as he says Miz channeled Arn Anderson and that he should be in the Hall of Fame. Miz continues to focus on the arm with a sick looking move on the ropes. Bryan uses Miz's momentum to send him outside and follows with a suicide dive that wakes the crowd up. Inside, Bryan hits a dropkick for two while Alex Riley looks like a worried douche. They trade punches until Bryan is like, “I'll just kick you a bunch.” His last kick is one right to the head but Miz kicks out. Bryan sets Miz up on top but gets pushed onto the rope where he is crotched. Miz follows from the second rope with a big clothesline, which is a spot that Bryan used to do with Nigel McGuinness albeit much more violently then. Miz goes right back to the left arm and pulls back on it hard. Bryan counters the Skull Crushing Finale into a pin but Miz kicks out. Bryan goes for the LeBelle Lock but Riley gets on the apron. Miz accidentally knocks him off and Bryan gets a two count with a rollup. Miz uses a small package to get two of his own. He snaps and fires away with lefts on the challenger and gets pulls away by the referee. He goes in again but Bryan catches him in the LeBelle Lock and Miz taps out!
Winner and New WWE United States Champion: Daniel Bryan in 12:29 Along with his Falls Count Anywhere match against John Morrison, this is my favorite Miz match ever. Daniel sold the shoulder work extremely well and everything about this match was enjoyable. Really good stuff and historic as it's Bryan's first title victory. ***3/4
Josh Matthews is conducting another interview with a Six Pack Challenge competitor, this time John Cena. Cena talks about all of the percentages in a very Rock like promo. Not as funny, but along the same lines. It wasn't bad.
WWE Divas and Women's Championship Unification Lumberjill Match Melina (c) vs. Michelle McCool (c) When Matt Striker sees the Lumberjills, he remarks “Jillian Hall is still here?”. They do a callback to their match last year as Michelle McCool goes to dropkick Melina during her split entrance again but Melina dodges. Melina goes for a move in the corner but McCool knocks her outside. The Divas don't do anything to her though as it's clear that they're only really pissed at McCool. Michelle hits the Moonlight Drive for two, showing how weak John Morrison's finisher was. Faithbreaker is countered into a facebuster as Melina must have watched some Billy Kidman before this. Michelle comes back with a belly to belly suplex though. Melina gets a rollup but the referee is distracted by Natalya, so McCool kicks out. She runs out to beef with Natalya and gets attacked by every Diva. Rosa Mendes, in her awfulness, decides to try and hit Jillian and it's a laughably bad botch. Melina dodges a McCool bit boot with a Matrix type move, but McCool slams her to the mat. Both girls fall outside and the Lumberjills just stand around watching them until it's just McCool and things break out again. Layla and Melina go at it in the ring and Layla is tossed out. McCool sneaks in and hits a big boot to end it.
Winner and New Divas and Women's Champion: Michelle McCool in 6:34 Not as good as their match the previous year, but still a solid women's contest. It's crazy how most of the girls around the ring and in the match are no longer with the company. **
Layla and Michelle McCool each leave with a championship. Todd Grisham finds Wade Barrett and asks for thoughts on the Six Pack Challenge.
World Heavyweight Championship No Holds Barred Kane (c) vs. The Undertaker The promo package for this goes all the way back to the beginning of their history in 1997, which is cool. I really want to know who decided to change Kane's theme from “Slow Chemical” because they should be fired. Undertaker is pissed about this too as he attacks Kane during his entrance. They fight up there for a few minutes and gradually make their way to ringside where Kane tosses his brother into the steel steps. Nothing of real note happens as it's pretty basic and boring. When they finally get in the ring, Kane hits a flying clothesline. They go back outside and Kane throws Taker on the announce table and hits him with the top piece. Taker sends him into the steps to get a bit of an opening. Guillotine leg drop from the Phenom and he's starting to get in his offense. He clotheslines Kane into the time keeper's area and leaps over onto him in a cool spot. The fight now spills into the crowd for a while. They make it back to the ring and Kane is back in the driver's seat. He channels the Undertaker with jabs in the corner. Undertaker rallies with his clothesline, snake eyes, big boot and leg drop but only gets a near fall. Undertaker goes for the Tombstone but Kane counters with his own and covers to earn a clean victory over his brother.
Winner and New World Heavyweight Champion: Kane in 18:29 Well that was boring. They brawled for most of the match but it wasn't anything worth watching. Seeing The Undertaker get beat cleanly was surprising though. *3/4
Randy Orton is interviewed about the Six Pack Challenge. It's nothing special.
WWE Tag Team Championship Turmoil Match The Hart Dynasty (c) w/ Natalya vs. Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre vs. Evan Bourne and Mark Henry vs. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov vs. The Usos w/ Tamina The first two teams are the Hart Dynasty and The Usos, and it's crazy to see how far the Usos have come. Striker mentions that he likes to play “Six Degrees of the Hart Dungeon” and I totally want to play this in my free time now. Some solid action to start and Smith hits a sweet belly to belly. When the Usos retreat outside, Kidd nails a gorgeous top rope Asai moonsault onto them. Tamina tries to intervene so Natalya stops her, but an Uso kicks Kidd in the head, allowing the other to pin him and we're guaranteed new Tag Team Champions. It was a weak elimination. Santino and Kozlov are out next to a huge pop. They are in control as Santino tries the Cobra. Tamina gets on the apron to do the Cobra too, which allows The Usos to his a Samoan Drop and eliminate them quickly. Mark Henry and Evan Bourne are next in. Bourne hits some kicks, knees and a hurricanrana to get the crowd excited. Henry eventually hits the World's Strongest Slam and Bourne follows with AirBourne as the Usos are gone. The final team to enter are Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre, who would go on to be called The Dashing Ones. McIntyre starts with his mean streak as he works over Bourne. He and Cody do this for a bit because Bourne makes sense as the face in peril on his team. McIntyre hits an interesting backbreaker before applying a chin lock. Bourne counters a suplex and hits a big knee as he makes the hot tag to the Kool-Aid man. He wails away on both of his opponents for a bit. Bourne gets tagged and climbs onto Mark's shoulders. McIntyre cuts that off and Cody is able to beat Bourne.
Winners and New WWE Tag Team Champions: Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre in 11:29 Rapid fire match here. Quick eliminations allowed for nothing to be a down point. When it got to the end, it was your basic tag team match which was fine. **1/2
We get a vignette for big deal, fairly quick himself, Alberto Del Rio. He shows off how rich he is and calls the fans mentally constipated, which is a new one. The video package for the main event is shown and then Sheamus is interviewed. Again, it's nothing special.
WWE Championship Six Pack Challenge Sheamus (c) vs. Chris Jericho vs. Edge vs. John Cena vs. Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett We get in ring introductions for each guy and Michael Cole mentions that the guys in the ring have a combined 32 World Title reigns. Once the bell hits, everyone brawls and some of it spills outside. Cena and Jericho get into a fist fight and if I'm Jericho, I avoided the one guy that I've never beaten in the WWE. And just as I type that, Jericho gets a bulldog and then eats an RKO to be eliminated at 1:25. Everyone stops working and just looks in disbelief at Jericho getting knocked off. He would leave after this show until the start of 2012. When the shock is over and Jericho's gone, Wade Barrett finds himself surrounded by the other four guys. They all owe him for the Nexus attacks to they beat him up. Orton and Cena end up together and they try to act like the crowd is excited, but they're not. It's happened way too often to be special. It gets interrupted so the WWE's poster children throw everyone out again and it's just them. They go for their finishers instantly but continue to counter each other for a bit. Sheamus starts to beat on Cena in the ring while everyone else is down. He sets up for the Celtic Cross but Cena fights out. Sheamus pretty much owned Cena in their early feud. Edge and Sheamus hit Cena with a double second rope suplex. On the outside, the unit of Edgemus toss Barrett into the barricade and continue to work well together. Edge eventually sees a chance and goes to Spear Sheamus but misses. He eventually hits the Spear and then hits one on Orton before eating an AA from Cena, which eliminates him at 15:00.
Wade Barrett targets John Cena and gives a precursor to his bare knuckle character by punching Cena a few times. He goes for Wasteland but of course, it's reversed to the AA, which gets reversed into a DDT. Cena comes back and hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle but Wade avoids the AA. Sheamus gets in and is put in the STF but manages to reach the ropes. The Nexus runs down but John Cena fights them off until he gets caught with Wasteland. Wade pins him and the crowd pops hard at 18:58. Nexus rolls Randy Orton into the ring and then get on the apron but Cena attacks with a chair. The members who get in are all met with RKOs and Orton hits Wade with a backbreaker. He follows with an RKO and eliminates Wade at 20:32. Well, the fall of Wade Barrett continues. Sheamus connects with the Brogue Kick but Orton gets his shoulder up. High Cross is reversed into an RKO and Orton wins his seventh World Title.
Winner and New WWE Champion: Randy Orton 21:28 As with most Six Pack Challenges, this was fun. The early Jericho elimination was a shock and the time until the next elimination featured a cool team up of Sheamus and Edge. Everything after that was fast paced, but I feel that Wade could've won here to save the Nexus angle. ***3/4
Overall: 6/10. Average. Of the Night of Champions series, this was the worst so far. It was still not a bad show though. The opener was good and the only other matches that are worth checking out are the main event and the United States Title match. The World Title match was boring and the other matches are just passable.

Night of Champions 2011 September 18th, 2011 – First Niagara Center in Buffalo, New York – Attendance: 11,000
The biggest story of 2011 was CM Punk, his pipebomb and his WWE Championship win. However, the WWE fumbled that mightily by having him lose the WWE Title to Alberto Del Rio at SummerSlam and then put him in a feud with Triple H, which would culminate in a match on this card. Meanwhile, Alberto Del Rio would defend against John Cena and Randy Orton puts the World Heavyweight Title up for grabs versus Mark Henry. Not the most exciting batch of World Title matches but let's see if they can surprise.
So, the opening video package focuses on the three big matches but it features John Cena telling Alberto Del Rio that he's not a champion because he cashed in a briefcase and got lucky. I never liked that argument. Del Rio earned the ability to do so by winning the Ladder match, he's still a champion. The commentary team is Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and Booker T. I will clearly miss Matt Striker's show stealing performance from last year.
WWE Tag Team Championship AirBoom (c) vs. The Awesome Truth The Miz and R-Truth rap a remix of “What's Up” called “You Suck” and I totally enjoyed it. Both of these teams were two that I thought were really fun. Kofi and Miz start but a tag to Bourne leads to a creative double stomp for two. They do another innovative double team leading to Bourne hitting a head scissors before they hit stereo splashes to the outside. Booker T proclaims that this match is about teamwork. No kidding. Miz uses a cheap shot to turn the tides as the heels begin to work over Evan Bourne. Michael Cole points out that Miz has won the Tag Titles with three different partner. It's a solid tag team formula and Bourne uses a sweet counter to finally get the hot tag. Kofi flies around the ring and hits the Boom Drop. He gears up for Trouble in Paradise but has to stop Truth from hitting him. He still catches Miz with the SOS for two. A cheap shot from Truth allows Miz to hit an interesting move with a name that's escaping me right now for two. Now Kofi can't make the tag so Bourne chooses to be a heel and makes the tag sound behind the official's back and enters. I've always wondered why faces never tried this. Bourne gets a near fall with a rollup and misses AirBourne before getting planted with a DDT. Kofi breaks up the pin and when Miz tags R-Truth, the referee didn't see it. Miz hits Skull Crushing Finale and the referee is too distracted to count. Miz gets furious and piefaces the referee, causing the disqualification.
Winners via disqualification and Still WWE Tag Team Champions: AirBoom in 10:02 Hot match that took a unique twist on tag formula and played perfectly into Awesome Truth's case of paranoia. All four guys worked hard and looked strong. ***1/2
We get a commercial for one of Triple H's WWE Films, this one with Michael Rappaport. MATT STRIKER! He catches up with Awesome Truth backstage and R-Truth says that wasn't a referee but another conspirator.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Ted Dibiase This was the tail end of the “Undashing” character as soon, Cody Rhodes would drop the mask and gimmick. Also, this is the third straight Night of Champions to feature these two in a match together. Early on, they trade some offense and Ted Dibiase goes for the mask. Cody responds with a slap and when Ted goes for his cool rebound clothesline, Cody counters with a knee to the gut. He hits the Beautiful Disaster which elicits a nice response from the crowd. Cody is in control and they do an interesting double pin spot before Cody connects with a headbutt, which hurts more due to his mask. Because Cody is old school, he applies the DREADED abdominal stretch. I think the only move older than that is the atomic drop. Ted rallies with the rebound clothesline and decides to one up this battle of old school with an inverted atomic drop. He then hits the Daniel Bryan running knee for two and a spinebuster also gets him a near fall. Ted counters the Beautiful Disaster with a midair dropkick for two as well. Commentary is really selling how important to the match the mask is and Dibiase removes it to a big pop. He charges at Cody, who rolls him up with a handful of tights to get the three.
Winner and Still WWE Intercontinental Champion: Cody Rhodes in 9:48 Really solid match that was hampered by the crowd not being into Ted that much. They popped for the Beautiful Disaster and when the mask was removed, but this was still good stuff. ***
Christian shows up to address the fans and tell them that he needs “one more match” for the World Heavyweight Championship. This coming from a guy who was like 1-7 against Randy Orton and the only win was via disqualification. He gets the crowd to chant “one more match” with him until Sheamus interrupts. Sheamus talks about weird stuff and chants “one more match” with the fans and Christian until he hits a Brogue Kick. You know, for being a face, Sheamus does a LOT of cheap shots and stuff.
WWE United States Championship Fatal Four Way Match Dolph Ziggler (c) w/ Vickie Guerrero vs. Alex Riley vs. Jack Swagger vs. John Morrison Right at the bell, all hell breaks loose and I forgot how over Alex Riley was for a bit. He hits a decent little move on Jack Swagger in the ring, while Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison were knocked outside. Morrison enters and dropkicks Dolph, falling into a moonsault on Swagger for two. Cool spot. Swagger hip tosses him outside and is left alone with Ziggler, which is interesting since Vickie is courting Swagger. He wins that back and forth until Riley enters and nails a TKO but Vickie puts Swagger's leg on the rope. Dolph runs in and dropkicks Riley before complaining to Vickie like an idiot. SHE SAVED THE MATCH DUMMY! Morrison puts Ziggler on the top and seems to go for a superplex but Dolph pushes him off and he's in the tree of woe. Riley leaps to the top and struggles to do so. Morrison uses his core strength to German suplex Riley, before Swagger runs up and slams Dolph from the top. This is basically going spot to spot. Morrison starts to fire on all cylinders and show off his athleticism. He hits the C4 on Riley, which I always thought looked awesome, but like the Canadian Destroyer, showed how fake wrestling can look. Riley gets his knees up on Starship Pain and Dolph puts Morrison in the sleeper hold. Riley gets put in the Ankle Lock so the dueling submissions are cool but both are countered. Riley hits a jumping DDT and only gets two but the crowd wanted him to win. Swagger gets the ankle lock back on and Morrison misses a springboard splash, so Swagger hits the Gutwrench. Ziggler shoves Swagger and steals the pin.
Winner and Still WWE United States Champion: Dolph Ziggler in 8:19 It was a spotfest, but it was a fun one. Things started a bit slow but really picked up. The overused finish took away from it, but made sense within the Swagger/Ziggler story. The crowd was hot for Riley too. ***
Josh Matthews interviews Mark Henry but is very scared. He still calls out Mark for never winning the big one like an idiot. Henry cuts an intense promo and he nailed this character to perfection. The camera cuts to Vickie Guerrero being excited about Dolph winning when Matt Striker interviews her. She says that everyone wants to work for Vickie. She says she will become the COO after Triple H loses, and she plants a kiss on Striker.
World Heavyweight Championship Randy Orton (c) vs. Mark Henry The video package does a good job of showing how dominant Mark Henry and the Hall of Pain was. Randy Orton wisely avoids Henry's big blows and targets his legs to get him on the mat. Henry shrugs it off and both men block the other one's finishers. It's interesting that even with Henry being dominant, they're telling the story of him not being able to win the big one throughout his career. Henry now works the body with an impressive looking stretch around the post before hitting a big splash for two. Henry continues to methodically decimate Orton with a variety of power moves. He has an old school monster vibe to him that really worked well. When he tries another splash, Orton moves and now has an opening. Orton actually hits a powerslam and goes for his rope DDT, but Henry headbutts him to stop it. Henry plants the Champion with the World's Strongest Slam but Orton gets his shoulder up. The crowd didn't pop for the kick out like I expected, and I feel like they don't think Henry has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the belt. You know, because they've seen Henry for fifteen years. Henry goes for a Vader Bomb but Orton gets his feet up. He again goes to the knee and hits a DDT. Orton starts to pound the mat for the RKO, but Henry rolls to the apron. Orton nails the rope DDT this time, which I didn't Henry to be able to stay on the ropes for. Henry stops his momentum with a kick to the knee and now Orton is back in trouble. He does go for the RKO but it's blocked and Henry hits the World's Strongest Slam to win, which gets a surprisingly big pop and some shocked faces from the fans.
Winner and New World Heavyweight Champion: Mark Henry in 13:06 Not a bad match. Mark Henry looked like the beast he should've looked like and Randy Orton was motivated, which leads to him being good. **3/4
Earlier, Mark Henry dared Josh Matthews to interview him after he won and Josh does just that. He gets scolded by Henry who shouts at all of the doubters and tonight's pouters. Alberto Del Rio, John Laurinaitis, and Ricardo Rodriguez are walking as Del Rio complains about a lot of stuff. He leaves and CM Punk shows up to make fun of Laurinaitis. Punk is wearing his fantastic ice cream bar shirt.
WWE Divas Championship Kelly Kelly (c) w/ Eve Torres vs. Beth Phoenix w/ Natalya Michael Cole reminds everyone that we're in Beth Phoenix's hometown of Buffalo and the crowd reacts as so, giving Beth a pop. The crowd chants for Beth as Kelly gains some early near falls and does a handstand submission on the apron. She goes up top but, like all small faces, gets caught by the powerful heel. Beth drops her and spanks her to another pop. Beth hits a slingshot type move, but Kelly rallies with a bulldog. Natalya pulls Beth out of the ring to sort of save her, so Eve tackles her, but gets taken down by Beth. Back inside, Kelly picks up a couple of near falls and goes for the K2, but Beth counters and clotheslines her. It's so strange to see a crowd cheering for her. I believe a “Let's Go Buffalo” chant breaks out, selfish fans, as Beth takes Kelly to the top. She hits an actual superplex. Not a second rope suplex, but an actual top rope superplex. It only earns Beth a near fall though. Beth goes for the Glam Slam but it gets reversed into a rollup for three and the crowd is pissed.
Winner and Still WWE Divas Champion: Kelly Kelly in 6:26 Solid Divas match and having the crowd actually be into it made it better. **1/2
WWE Championship Alberto Del Rio (c) w/ Ricardo Rodriguez vs. John Cena Also, why does Cena get to use his rematch clause but not CM Punk? Alberto Del Rio walks to the ring because he can't find his car keys, so John Cena arrives in his car. So, grand theft auto is okay when you're a face? They both speak before the match and neither is worth noting or any good. Even though Del Rio is overwhelmed early on, the crowd starts their dueling Cena chants and it seems to boost his confidence. Ricardo gets booted from ringside, so there goes that aspect. Del Rio hits an odd top rope double axe handle type move and works the back for a bit. I guess Del Rio remembered what his finisher is, as he changes to target the arm a bit. Cena dodges a Del Rio attack and the Champion falls to the outside. Cena suplexes him back inside but both guys are down. When they get up, Cena hits his signature series of moves, ending in the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Del Rio gets up instantly into the AA, but reverses into a back cracker for two. After Cena gets a near fall, Del Rio picks up another with an enziguri, and I have to admit that he has one of the best in the business. Del Rio makes a crucial mistake as he misses a move and rams his shoulder into the post. It makes a sickening sound. Cena comes off the top with his super Fameasser for two. Bridging German suplex from Alberto gets another two and he seems at a loss for what to do here. He busts out a top rope senton for two again but ends up getting the Cross Armbreaker on! Cena, being Superman, counters with a powerbomb and commentary sells it like it's unthinkable that Cena could do this. The man picked up Big Show and Edge at the same time, this is nothing. Cena hits the AA, Ricardo runs down and gets stopped and Cena applies the STF. Del Rio taps and thus begins the most pointless of Cena's 15 World Title reigns.
Winner and New WWE Champion: John Cena in 17:31 Who booked this? The match was kind of boring but the biggest issue was the outcome. John Cena said Del Rio wasn't a champion, so he goes out and beats him handily, even with Ricardo trying to get involved. The finish sucked and everything. **
Michael Cole has pretty much lost his voice at this point and I find it strange that Night of Champions is being headlined by a match that's not for a belt. Also, the video package features Triple H's great line where he calls Punk a “skinny fat ass”.
No Disqualification Match CM Punk vs. Triple H Look, it's the WrestleMania XXX match that we never got! To show how personal things are, they brawl outside of the ring before the bell even rings. HHH goes to use the announce table, but Punk gets into the ring and challenges him to meet him there. It doesn't stay in the ring for long as they go right back outside where HHH works Punk's knee on the steel steps. Punk fights back and they end up breaking a piece of the guardrail. Things spill into the crowd and that's not something I'm really a fan of. The battle heads to the entrance as Punk sends HHH over a set piece and then leaps off of it, but it's not very high so it doesn't have a wow factor to it. They work their way back to the ring and Punk rams his knees into Hunter's jaw until he comes back with a spinebuster for two. With a chair propped in the corner, HHH drives Punk headfirst into it. That had a bit of wow factor. HHH goes back to the knee as he wraps it around the post and then levels it with a steel chair. Punk rallies and places HHH on the announce table before hitting an elbow through the table. Awesome spot that always gets a good reaction from the fans. As both guys slowly get into the ring, Awesome Truth rush out and start to beat on both guys. They hit their finishers on both men and drape Punk's arm over The Game. The referee doesn't want to count but even when he does, HHH kicks out. The Skull Crushing Finale isn't that great of a move Miz, don't look shocked. Miz and Truth beat up the referee, even though he decks Miz. This gives the competitors time to get up and toss out Awesome Truth. HHH hits the Pedigree but the referee is down. A new one runs out, but John Laurinaitis, who just came out, stops him and makes him check on the downed official. The distraction lets punk hit the GTS and Laurinaitis sends the official in. Truth breaks the count but eats a GTS. Punk springboards back into the ring, but leaps right into a Pedigree! He somehow kicks out though! Kevin Nash limps out from the crowd and levels both Punk and HHH. Man, everybody hates both guys. Punk retaliates but takes the Jacknife before Nash goes to HHH outside. HHH lays him out with a sledgehammer though. Inside, Punk gets up and is met with another Pedigree that ends it.
Winner: Triple H in 24:10 This was a throwback to main events of the late 90's with overbooking and lots of run ins. The decision to have Punk lose was kind of dumb, but this was at least enjoyable. ***
Overall: 6.5/10; Above Average. Slightly better than last year's effort. The opener was my favorite match of the night and everything was at least decent on this show. That is, except for the disappointment that was the WWE Title match. Both Cena and Del Rio are good performers but their match fell flat. Still, of the seven matches, four got at least three stars and none got less than two.

Night of Champions 2012 September 16th, 2012 – TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts – Attendance: 14,886
At the 2011 version of this show, I questioned the decision to have CM Punk lose to Triple H. The WWE made up for it at the Survivor Series when Punk dethroned Alberto Del Rio to win the WWE Championship and would go on to have the longest reign with that belt in the modern era. That reign faced it's toughest challenge to date on this show as he would face the man he originally beat for the belt at the previous year's Money in the Bank, John Cena. That match was in Punk's hometown of Chicago and this would be in Cena's hometown of Boston. The only other thing from this card that I remember off the top of my head is that I enjoyed Sheamus' World Title defense against Alberto Del Rio and look forward to seeing it again.
The video package shows all of the belts and former holders before focusing on CM Punk's quest for respect. I always hated how they had guys like Bret Hart tell him that he needed to earn the respect. Like, had he not? Or John Cena saying that he's only kept the belt “by any means necessary” which was untrue for the entire first half of his run. CM Punk was honestly right in everything he said during his heel run. Michael Cole informs everyone that Jerry Lawler is improving after his heart attack during Raw the previous week. His replacement for the show is John “Bradshaw” Layfield, who gets a big pop from the fans. I miss when JBL was good on commentary instead of how he's useless now.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Fatal Four Way Match The Miz (c) vs. Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara The Miz cuts a pre-match promo about how unfair this is, but gets cut off by Rey Mysterio's entrance. This starts basically as a tag team match with Miz and Cody Rhodes against Sin Cara and Mysterio. The Luchadors get in control early but then Miz and Cody try to work over Sin Cara. He botches a part of his comeback before arm dragging Mic out of the ring. Mysterio sends Cody out and goes to square off with Sin Cara. Cara has a backbreaker type move reversed into a head scissors that was cool. Cody and Miz now one up each other with shots on Cara and Rey before going against each other. They counter one another until Cody gets sent outside and we get a series of pins from the other three. JBL wisely mentions that both Rey and Cara have been AAA Champions in their past. Cody hits the Disaster Kick on Cara, and I hate that the name changed from the Beautiful Disaster. A “Let's Go Cody” chant breaks out as Miz powerbombs Cody who hits a second rope suplex on Rey. Now, we get a “Miz is Awesome” chant as he hits a sweet DDT on Rey. Cara hits a suicide dive on the Miz while Rey hits a head scissors on Cody outside. Back inside, Rey and Cody pick up near falls with nice little moves. Cody and Miz end up in 619 position and Miz gets nailed with it. Cody moves but ends up outside as Rey drops the dime on Miz. Cody stops the pin and goes for it himself but Cara breaks it. Rhodes goes to unmask Cara and sends Rey outside hard. Cara pulls out another mask from his trunks and goes to put it on Cody, but Miz attacks him from behind. He goes for a powerbomb and Cara puts the mask on Miz, who is now blinded by it. He bumps into Cody and instinctively hits the Skull Crushing Finale to pin Cody.
Winner and Still WWE Intercontinental Champion: The Miz in 12:05 Solid opener, but not much different than other Fatal Four Ways for mid-card titles. Fun action and the Sin Cara mask story came into play. ***
The Prime Time Players yell at Eve Torres about how they should be on the show tonight. They do the “Millions of Dollars” dance as Eve gets told there is an emergency. They find Kaitlyn taken out and her ankle has been injured. She's sad because tonight was her shot at the title.
WWE Tag Team Championship Kofi Kingston and R-Truth (c) vs. Daniel Bryan and Kane The video package recaps the awesome anger management segments between Daniel Bryan and Kane. That whole thing was hilarious including their hug it out stuff on Raw. I'd like to point out that I strongly disliked Kofi Kingston and R-Truth as Tag Team Champions. The Champions double team Kane early but he fights out and tags Bryan hard. Truth hits a nice backflip into an armdrag before tagging in Kofi. Michael Cole mentions the “great” teams to hold these titles in the past and brings up Big Show and Kane, as well as the Basham Brothers. Terrible. Truth hits a dancing leg drop and Kane blind tags in. The crowd is very hot for Bryan as they “Yes!” everything. They continue to work well as a team and Kane hits a dropkick before moving to a rest hold. The challengers go to do another double team but Bryan misses and they start to argue. A shoving match ensues until Bryan asks for a huge, which gets a huge pop. They hug to an even bigger pop but it allows Kofi to get a bit of a hot tag. He hits his usual offense including the Boom Drop and he taunts for Trouble in Paradise, but Kane pulls Bryan out of the ring. They argue which gives Kofi the opening to hit a baseball slide and a sweet front flip onto them. He springboards back in, but is caught into the No Lock! Truth saves him but then runs into Kane outside. Bryan hits a big dropkick in the corner and Kane tags himself in. Kane climbs to the top and gets into it with Bryan again, leading to Bryan shoving him off and onto Kingston for the three.
Winners and New WWE Tag Team Champions: Daniel Bryan and Kane in 8:30 Decent tag team match made better by Daniel Bryan and Kane's fantastic chemistry and the crowd being into it. **3/4
Kane and Daniel Bryan shout “I AM THE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS” at each other a bunch of times after the match. Cutting backstage, Booker T and Theodore Long are talking when Eve walks in to give them the update on Kaitlyn, saying she can't perform. Booker says there must be a title match and gives Eve the shot. You can see this whole story coming a mile away.
WWE United States Championship Antonio Cesaro (c) w/ Aksana vs. Zack Ryder Zack Ryder won this title shot by winning a battle royal on the Pre-Show. Antonio Cesaro was doing his “I speak five languages” thing at this point too. Right at the bell, Cesaro slams Ryder and slaps him around. They also mention that Cesaro is a former rugby star, and it's funny that still in 2014, they have no idea what his character should be. He busts out the EDDIE GILBERT hot shot on Ryder. Cesaro uses his power to psychically wear down the challenger. Cesaro hits the awesome pop up uppercut for two. Ryder busts out of a submission and hits a discus clothesline. Ryder then hits a second rope dropkick and counters a suplex with a neckbreaker for two. Ryder hits a top rope hurricanrana and attempts the Broski Boot but Aksana pulls Cesaro out of harm's way. That allows him to win with an uppercut and the Neutralizer.
Winner and Still WWE United States Champion: Antonio Cesaro in 7:46 Nothing match. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything of note either. The outcome was never in doubt. **1/2
Dolph Ziggler w/ Vickie Guerrero vs. Randy Orton This is Randy Orton's first match back after being suspended sixty days for violating the Wellness Policy again. He was coming off of a run during 2011 and 2012 where he put on really good matches consistently. Orton uses his strength advantage to gain the early upper hand on Dolph Ziggler. Dolph turns the tide and things are off to a slow start. Orton picks things up a bit with his signature backbreaker and some clotheslines. He snaps off his excellent powerslam but Dolph reverses his DDT into a rollup for two. They fight to the top and Orton gets knocked off and onto his back. As he gets up, Dolph meets him with a missile dropkick for two. Dolph busts out about six straight elbow drops and shows off in between. He applies a headlock and does his headstand with it. Orton rallies with a back suplex and man, Vikcie's voice is killing me at ringside. Orton decides he wants to be like a mid-90's vanilla babyface and uses a standing dropkick. Ziggler goes up top but gets crotched and Orton nails a superplex for a near fall. Vickie hilariously points at the fans and laughs at them. Things break down as the two men trade shots with the crowd in Ziggler's corner. Orton seems to win this battle until Dolph connects with the Fameasser for a close near fall. Ziggler blocks Orton's rope DDT for the second time and they fight outside. Orton finally gets his DDT with Ziggler on the guardrail in a cool spot. Orton brings him inside and covers but Dolph gets his foot on the bottom rope. Randy smells blood but his RKO is countered into a rollup for two. Dolph applies the sleeper but Orton breaks it and hits a pop up RKO for the victory.
Winner: Randy Orton in 18:24 That started slow but picked up nicely near the end. Randy Orton can really be hit or miss when it comes to in ring work but he seemed motivated here. ***
WWE Divas Championship Layla (c) vs. Eve Torres JBL says that this is the arena where Layla made her debut in 2006 and says that she won the $250,000 Divas Search and an NBA ring as a Miami Heat dancer that year. Impressive. Layla snaps off a sweet armdrag near the start and Eve shows off some athleticism. Layla fires back with an interesting pinning combination for two. Eve goes away from sportsmanship as she attacks Layla on the outside. At one point though, Layla is clearly smiling as she's thrown into the apron. Eve puts on a choke of sorts in the corner and is progressively going more heel by the moment. Layla rallies and hits a dropkick but continues to oddly have a smile on her face. She goes for her corner splash spot but misses and Eve takes advantage by hitting a corkscrew suplex of sorts to win.
Winner and New Divas Champion: Eve Torres in 6:38 Perfectly fine Divas match. Not much more to say here except that Eve turning more heel by the minute was some solid storytelling. **1/4
After a promo for the Rock vs. Cena “Once in a Lifetime” (yea right) DVD, Lillian Garcia introduces some breast cancer survivors in the crowd. The camera cuts to Daniel Bryan shouting that he's the Tag Team Champions to random backstage people before running into AJ Lee and Dr. Shelby. Kane comes out shouting the same thing and they force AJ Lee to shout at them. Kane pours Gatorade on the three of them and says that he's going to Disneyland! Funny stuff.
World Heavyweight Championship Sheamus (c) vs. Alberto Del Rio w/ David Otunga and Ricardo Rodriguez Sheamus is sporting white, green and gold trunks in honor of the Irish community in Boston. Smackdown General Manager Booker T shows up and reinstates the Brogue Kick. Sheamus tries the Brogue Kick instantly but hits David Otunga, who was on the apron. Del Rio misses a move and falls outside so Sheamus follows with a battering ram off the apron. Del Rio drives Sheamus into the Spanish announce table hard and kicks him in the ribs. They go back inside and Del Rio locks on a Crossface of sorts. He ends up nailing Seth Rollins' Blackout for two, which I've never seen him do before or after. He gets perched on top and applies the Cross Armbreaker on the top rope which looked really cool and painful. He leaps off the top, which was a mistake as Sheamus clobbers him with an axe handle. JBL calls Sheamus a mutant, which got a chuckle out of me. Del Rio ends up on the apron and blocks the 10 Beats of whatever. I always forget. Sheamus ends up fighting him off and wailing away with it anyway in the corner. Del Rio counters White Noise with a Backstabber for a near fall. He ends up rallying and connecting with White Noise anyway. Time for the Brogue Kick, but Del Rio ducks and nails a step up enziguri for a very close two. Del Rio has one of the best enziguris of all time. Del Rio applies the Cross Armbreaker but Sheamus rolls through and tries the Texas Cloverleaf only to have Del Rio block it. Sheamus charges and gets his arm caught in the ropes, so Del Rio kicks it into oblivion. Del Rio hits another move on the arm he's worked throughout and gets the Armbreaker on! Sheamus muscles out and powerbombs Del Rio to break the hold. He goes for the Brogue Kick but it's again dodged by Del Rio, who again puts on the Cross Armbreaker! Sheamus gets the ropes to survive. He gets up in the corner and Del Rio makes the crucial mistake of trying another enziguri and Sheamus moves. Once Del Rio gets to his feet, he eats the Brogue Kick to end things.
Winner and Still World Heavyweight Champion: Sheamus in 14:29 Really good match here. One of the best in either guy's career. The arm work was masterfully done, Sheamus sold like a champ and Del Rio looked strong unlike last year. Both men deserve praise for this. ****
The WWE Championship video package is excellently done even though John Cena was beyond ignorant for some of the stuff he said. He was right about certain things though, so kudos to him for that. Paul Heyman is in the ring as he cuts a short promo on Boston about witnessing history when CM Punk retains for the 302nd straight day.
WWE Championship CM Punk (c) w/ Paul Heyman vs. John Cena This is a case of two men who bring out the best in one another. I never expected that between them but they always deliver great bouts. Punk is sporting Yankee pinstripes on his trunks which is tremendous since this is in Boston. Sadly, this is Punk's first PPV main event since December. Disgusting. A mental chess game opens things as Punk smartly avoids the patented John Cena shoulder block. The wrestling sequences continue while the crowd is split on the participants. Punk showboats and it nearly costs him but he's able to break off a DDT for two. He then applies an Indian Deathlock of sorts, which is always a good looking move. Punk trash talks the fans on the outside, leading to a baseball slide from Cena. JBL and Michael Cole argue about why Cena gets everything and Punk gets shafted. Cena hits a fishermen suplex on the outside but gets kicked in the head when they're back inside. Heel Punk continues to shine as he jabs Cena a few times with a little juke in between. Cena blocks the GTS and it's time for the shoulder blocks. Punk reverses the slam though and gets a near fall. His neckbreaker is blocked and Cena clotheslines his head off. YOU CANT SEE ME. He goes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle but Punk kicks him in the mouth. The story of Punk knowing how to counter everything is well done so far. Punk hits a cross body but Cena rolls through and goes for the AA. Punk holds the top rope but Cena dumps him outside. He actually busts out a suicide dive and the shock on Paul Heyman's face is priceless. Back inside, he goes for the Five Knuckle Shuffle again but Punk pulls him into the Anaconda Vise in an awesome counter! Superman turns it into the STF, but Punk counters again into a crossface. Cena powers up and slams the Champion. They trade shots in the middle of the ring until Punk hits a kick and then a knee in the corner. He hits his bad looking Macho Man elbow for two. Punk signals for the GTS but Cena counters into the STF! Punk breaks it and connects with the GTS but Cena kicks out! As they get up and trade shots, they block each other's finishers and Cena hits a fast version of the Shuffle so it's not blocked and follows with the AA but Punk is able to get his shoulder up! Cena goes up top and misses his super Fameasser, so Punk kicks him in the back of the head for two. He gets another near fall with a William Regal Knee Trembler of sorts. The Champion goes up top and misses a crooked moonsault (a rumored meaning of the CM in his name). Punk hits a second GTS but Cena kicks out. Remember when finishing moves would actually finish matches? CM Punk hits Cena with a badass Rock Bottom and he honestly should've won with that. Cena kicks out but how tremendous would that have been? Cena pops up and hits an AA that doesn't get the job done. Cena sets up Punk on the top and hits a second rope German for the three!
He runs out and grabs the belt and I remember being furious at this result. I see some pissed fans leaving but the referee take the belt away and hand it to Punk. I've never heard a main event end in a draw and get a positive reaction from the fans.
The match is ruled a draw; CM Punk retains the WWE Championship in 26:54 Great match as always between these two, but I think the false finishes might have been a bit overdone. Ending in a disqualification hurt the score as well. ****1/4
CM Punk lays out John Cena with the WWE Title and shouts “Respect!” to close the show.
Overall: 8.5/10; Great. The best in the Night of Champions series in my book. Only the United States Title match is passable here and maybe the Divas match. The Four Way opener was fun, Orton/Ziggler was good, Team Hell No winning the title was solid, the World Title match was great and the main event was a thrill ride. Thumps way up for this show.

Night of Champions 2013 September 15th, 2013 – Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan – Attendance: 10,500
Coming off the heels of a tremendous SummerSlam in 2013, Night of Champions had a lot to live up to. Daniel Bryan won the WWE Title from John Cena but dropped it within minutes to Randy Orton, who cashed in Money in the Bank. Bryan earned a rematch for this show. Alberto Del Rio reigned as World Heavyweight Champion but was very low on competition and would face the recently returned Rob Van Dam. This was the issue with the WWE at this point. John Cena went down with an injury and Brock Lesnar left again for a while, leaving someone like CM Punk to be in a match that was beneath him. Oh well, let's see what this show has to offer because the Bryan vs. Authority angle was running strong here.
As always, the intro video is pretty cool as it looks at the champions. It focuses mainly on the Daniel Bryan/Randy Orton rivalry as well as CM Punk's with Paul Heyman. So, this is already off to a start that I don't like because Triple H arrives to start the show with a promo. I hate this on Pay-Per-Views. Commentary is Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler and John “Bradshaw” Layfield. He says that there will be no interference in the WWE Title match and is interrupted by Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel. He seems very concerned and HHH points out that he looks terrible. Heyman sucks up because he doesn't want to step into the ring with CM Punk. Even though he does a great job of putting over Punk and even Brock Lesnar, this was rather useless. HHH keeps the match and Curtis Axel decides to badmouth Triple H because he beat him on Raw (by countout) earlier in the year. Heyman yells at Axel for being stupid as HHH books Axel in a second match, this one with the Intercontinental Title on the line. The opponent will be the first person Triple H sees in the back.
WWE Intercontinental Championship Curtis Axel (c) w/ Paul Heyman vs. Kofi Kingston There's actually a tad bit of back story here as Kofi Kingston had defeated Curtis Axel twice in the past weeks, including one via pinfall. Early on, it's clear that Kofi is in Axel's head as he wins their exchanges. This causes Axel to step outside and catch a breather. Back inside, Axel takes control and sends Kofi outside. It's noted that Paul Heyman isn't doing much coaching at the moment as he's clearly not pleased with his client. Axel follows outside but gets taken down by a leaping Kingston. Axel turns things around inside with some shoulder thrusts and gets a near fall with a back suplex. Kofi's rally attempt is thwarted by a big clothesline from the Champion. Heyman's 5 o'clock shadow beard seems very itchy to him. Axel channels his daddy with the running neck snap before applying a rest hold. Kofi comes back but botches an innovative DDT. He hits a double jump cross body for two and nails the Boom Drop. BOOM BOOM! He claps for Trouble in Paradise but Axel ducks and sends him into the corner. Kofi goes for a springboard move but gets dropkicked in a cool midair moment for two. Kofi misses Trouble in Paradise but counters Axel's finisher into the SOS for two. He had beaten Axel with it before. With desperation in his eyes, Axel hits the EDDIE GILBERT hot shot before wrapping this up with his finisher.
Winner and Still WWE Intercontinental Champion: Curtis Axel in 13:56 I'm surprised these guys got nearly fourteen minutes. They did well with it and probably would've been better if the crowd was more into it. **3/4
We are shown a poll where the fans voted for the greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time. Chris Jericho garners 63%, Mr. Perfect gets 24%, Honky Tonk Man earns 10%, Rick Rude gets 2% and Pat Patterson finishes with a measly 1%.
Rob Van Dam is shown in the back with Ricardo Rodriguez. This was always such an odd pairing and I totally felt that Rodriguez would turn. Anyway, in this segment Ricardo teaches RVD some Spanish. AJ Lee is shown skipping to the ring when she bumps into Alicia Fox, Aksana and Layla. She wants them to go out with her, but none of them want any part of her. Trish Stratus wins the poll for best Women's Champion at 56%, Lita has 29%, Moolah at 8%, Michelle McCool with 6% and Wendi Richter at 1%.
WWE Divas Championship Fatal Four Way Match AJ Lee (c) vs. Brie Bella vs. Naomi vs. Natalya AJ Lee's pipe bombshell on the Total Divas cast was shown and it's still fantastic to this day. As soon as the bell rings, all three Total Divas chase AJ, who is regretting her promo at least a little bit. The problem with this angle was that AJ was supposed to be the heel, but the fans sided with her over the reality stars. Brie Bella quickly turns on her fellow E stars and hits a double clothesline, followed by two running knees. Naomi snaps off a hurricanrana on Brie and then they bump into each other. DOUBLE NOGGIN KNOCKER! Where's Monsoon when I need him? Naomi hits the Rear View on Natalya but Brie breaks the count. Natalya gets a near fall and Naomi, as always, overshoots her flying cross body and completely misses Natalya. She eventually goes to springboard into the ring but AJ pulls her to the mat hard. Brie rolls up Natalya for two but the powerful Divas fires back with a slam on both her and Naomi. Brie is on Naomi but the referee doesn't count because he must be blind. Natalya puts Naomi and Brie in a DOUBLE SHARPSHOOTER! That's like Canadian squared. AJ applies the Black Widow on Natalya, who is forced to tap out.
Winner and Still WWE Divas Champion: AJ Lee in 5:35 Good Divas match. There was never a dull moment, and they tried hard. The double Sharpshooter was creative and I give them credit. **1/4
We go to the “All-Star Panel” which features Booker T and people who have done nothing of note really. I'll give you Santino Marella, but then it's Josh Matthews and Alex Riley. They give useless “insight”.
World Heavyweight Championship Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Rob Van Dam w/ Ricardo Rodriguez ITS MEXICOS GREATEST EXPORT MAGGLE! This is Del Rio's third Night of Champions and he's been in a World Title match each time, though he's 0-2. The crowd is firmly behind RVD but Del Rio hits the first nice spot by dropkicking him. He does end up getting knocked outside and RVD follows with a botched moonsault. Maybe he was getting high before this match. RVD hits his corkscrew guillotine leg drop as Cole points out that the show is near RVD's hometown of Battle Creek, Michigan. He showboats which costs him as Del Rio throws him into the barricade. Inside, he hits a sick sounding kick to RVD's head and steals his taunt. He must have had enough finishers stored. I swear Del Rio has the best enziguri since Owen Hart as he levels RVD with one that knocks him outside. He follows with a suicide dive that misses the mark. RVD gets on a flurry in the ring and goes for Rolling Thunder, but Del Rio moves and hits a Backstabber. RVD fights back and goes to the top, where I can clearly see that he's balding, and hits a front flip for two. His rally stops when Del Rio hits a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Del Rio decides to target the left arm before nailing a vicious superkick for two. Del Rio leaps off the top into a heel kick and RVD goes for the Five Star Frog Splash. At this point in his career, it's like three stars. Del Rio gets his knees up to block and applies the Cross Armbreaker. RVD reaches the ropes but Del Rio declines to break the hold, resulting in the disqualification.
Winner via disqualification: Rob Van Dam in 13:24 Solid little back and forth contest that had a finish that left a lot of be desired. It should've been used to make Del Rio look vicious, but he just used it to escape with the belt. ***
Alberto Del Rio attacks Rob Van Dam after the match for a bit. He grabs a chair but Ricardo Rodriguez makes the save, allowing RVD to get the upper hand in the end and lead to their Hardcore Match at the following Pay-Per-View. RVD actually hits the Van Terminator and I'm impressed that he can still do this at like 42 years old.
In the back, Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman are talking and Heyman is scared for his life. Voting for the greatest World Heavyweight Champion ever is Booker T at 38%, Edge at 22%, Undertaker at 21%, Ric Flair at 14% and Batista at 5%. Surprising results for sure. Randy Orton barges into Triple H's office, worried that he'll have no help tonight. See, this was the issue with his character. He wasn't the same Randy Orton, he was a punk.
Fandango w/ Summer Rae vs. The Miz I seriously question why this match is on Pay-Per-View. Miz won a dance off two night earlier on Smackdown while sporting an afro. Things start with some back and forth stuff as both guys get in some of their usual offense. Miz goes up top but gets knocked down, leading to Fandango posing. Fandango puts on a rest hold in the middle of the ring, but it's not a good idea since the crowd isn't really into this. Fandango gets a near fall after nailing The Miz outside as the fans chant “Randy Savage”. Yup, they're officially in “we don't care about this match” mode. Miz starts to rally and hits a dropkick to Fandango's leg but this has no heat whatsoever. The fans “want tables” for some reason s Miz gets the Skull Crushing Finale blocked. Fandango hits a falcon arrow of sorts for two. Fandango hits an impressive guillotine leg drop for another near fall. Miz applies the Figure Four shortly after and Fandango taps.
Winner: The Miz in 7:49 I never liked the Figure Four finisher for The Miz. This was pretty boring and the crowd was totally dead for it. *1/2
No Disqualification Handicap Elimination Match CM Punk vs. Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman The history of Night of Champions is kind of telling for the WWE career of CM Punk. In 2009, he was World Champion, in 2010 he lost a meaningless match to Big Show, in 2011 he was in the main event against Triple H, in 2012 he was in the midst of his amazing WWE Title run and here, he's in a handicap match against a mid-carder. Too much up and down. Heyman stays outside while Punk and Curtis Axel wield kendo sticks to kick things off. Punk wins out and nails Heyman with a suicide dive! He brings Heyman in but spends too much time pandering to the fans so Axel stops him with a low blow. Axel's now in control and he gets a chair. He sets it up in the corner and gets a near fall with a clothesline. Axel gets a table and also sets it up in the corner. They counter suplexes until Axel hits one that's not through the table for two. They trade shots until Punk sends Axel into the chair in the corner, but it doesn't have the impact they were hoping for. It looked and sounded pretty weak. Punk attempts a suicide dive but Axel blocks it with a steel chair in another spot that didn't look as good as it should've. Axel now wails away on Punk with multiple kendo stick shots. Punk rallies and takes out Axel with a kendo stick and the GTS before applying the Anaconda Vise and Axel taps. Punk turns to Heyman and the facial expressions are priceless. Heyman runs and Punk gives chase through the crowd but they end up in the ring. Punk lulls him into a hug but destroys him with some kendo stick shots. He brings out handcuffs from his boot, which is a great callback to when Heyman and Axel cuffed him earlier in the month. STORYTELLING! Heyman is great here. Before Punk can deliver the finishing blow, Ryback shows up and drives Punk through a table. He places Heyman on Punk and it's over.
Winners: Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman in 15:43 For a PG Hardcore match, they did well. They tried some fun spots, though they didn't come off great. Punk and Axel worked hard and Heyman was his usual great self. ***
We go back to the dumb “Expert” panel to waste time.
WWE United States Championship Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler Seeing the Shield come out together, even though Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns head to the back instantly, brings a tear to my eye. Some back and forth stuff to start and when Dean Ambrose avoids a move, he wipes his hair at Dolph Ziggler in a taunt steal. Dolph responds with a dropkick and ten elbow drops before taking him outside for a moment. Inside, Dolph chops away on Dean for a bit before Dean comes back with a huge spinebuster. Dean slows things with a rest hold but Dolph fights out and they trade rollups. As they up, Dean hits a double underhook suplex from the second rope for two. I appreciate something like that over the same old basic suplex. Dean goes back up top, so Dolph leaps up and hits a super X-Factor! AY-YO YOU DEALING WITH THE X-FACTOR! It only earns him a near fall though. Stinger Splash from Dolph followed by punches and a clothesline get two again. Dean dodges the Fameasser and gets a rollup for two, but once they're up Dolph hits it! He covers but Ambrose grabs the ropes. Dean hits a slingshot to the corner and as Dolph comes out, nails Dirty Deeds to retain.
Winner and Still WWE United States Champion: Dean Ambrose in 9:46 A good little match that could've been better. Nothing special but good nonetheless. ***
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns arrive in the ring to celebrate with Dean Ambrose. The poll for greatest Untied States Champion is shown. Sting wins with 53%, Ricky Steamboat gets 24%, Sgt. Slaughters earns 12%, Harley Race gets 9% and Bobo Brazil clocks in at 2%.
WWE Tag Team Championship The Shield (c) vs. The Prime Time Players Were the Prime Time Players faces here?I guess so. They won a Tag Team Turmoil on the Pre-Show to earn this shot. We open with Titus and Seth. It just dawned on me that this was around the time that Darren Young came out so I see why they got a Pay-Per-View match. Titus tosses Seth hard across the ring and the way the crowd is popping for PTP, they had something with this team. I miss them. Young comes in and does his thing, knocking Roman Reigns outside and hitting Seth with a stiff elbow for two. Seth knows I love it because he turns the tide with the EDDIE GILBERT hot shot! Seth and Roman now work over Young until he snaps off a belly to belly. He makes the hot tag and Titus completely RUNS OVER Seth Rollins. Like turns him inside out and everything. He nails both Champions with hard hitting shots and hits a huge sky high on Seth. YOU BETTER RECOGNIZE! It only gets him two as Reigns and Young battle outside. Reigns enters and hits a huge Spear behind the referee's back to earns Seth the three.
Winners and Still WWE Tag Team Champions: The Shield in 7:26 Again, nothing special or really of note. Decent but that's about it. The outcome was also never in doubt. **1/2
We see the greatest Tag Team Champions poll and DX wins with 47%. They beat the Hart Foundation, Wild Samoans, Legion of Doom and the British Bulldogs. The fans know nothing.
WWE Championship Randy Orton (c) vs. Daniel Bryan To those who don't know the story, Daniel Bryan won the WWE Championship at SummerSlam but then ate a Pedigree from Triple H and Randy Orton cashed in Money in the Bank. As Orton comes out, they do the greatest WWE Champion vote. Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, John Cena, CM Punk and Triple H finish in that order. Bryan works the shoulder as he's planning ahead to use the Yes Lock. Orton retaliates with some of his trademark rest holds, including one where he pulls Bryan's beard during a headlock. Creative. They sort of botch a Thez Press so I won't go into JR shouting for Stone Cold mode like I normally do when someone hits that move. Bryan rallies with a big running elbow that Michael Cole calls a clothesline. He hits a dropkick in the corner and reels off kicks to the “Yes” of the crowd before snapping off a top rope hurricanrana. Orton rolls outside but is met with a suicide dive. FLYING GOAT! He goes and hits it once more but fails a third time as Orton blocks it. Orton hits a DDT from the apron to the outside as Scott Armstrong, who I call Finlay ref due to thei resemblance, nearly counts the challenger out. Bryan makes it back in as Orton mocks the “yes” chants. He coils for the RKO but Bryan shoves him away and Finlay ref goes down. Orton goes for his DDT again but Bryan counters into the Yes Lock as a new ref arrives! Orton gets out but gets kicked in the arm a bunch. He dodges a corner dopkick though and sets up Bryan on the top. Bryan wriggles free and gets Orton in the tree of Joey Lawrence (woe). He dropkicks him and hits a second rope suplex but hangs onto the top with his legs in a wise move. He powers up and nails a flying headbutt for two. Finlay ref is up and takes back over. Bryan kicks Orton in the chest a few times but he counters the last one with a T-Bone suplex. Bryan counters an RKO and ends up hitting his Running Knee for the victory!
Winner and New WWE Champion: Daniel Bryan in 17:33 Really good main event that had an abrupt finish. Also, the Scott Armstrong quick count would lead to the title being vacated the next night. ***3/4
Overall: 6.5/10; Above Average. A solid show with nothing outstanding but a few solid bouts. The main event is the best match but the United States Title, World Title and CM Punk matches are all good. Everything else is decent at best. So not a bad show, but not a show that you MUST go out and see. Perfectly acceptable.

However, I'll be doing my first joint review on a Podcast along with my friend Heather. We'll be reviewing the history of Hell in a Cell and I can post the link here if you guys would like to download and listen.

Wrapped up the Hell in a Cell 2009 podcast and it should be up sometime next month. Had fun doing it but I prefer my actual written reviews. Will be continuing those and the new one should be up by Monday. Only have one match left but got plans plus work this weekend.

I noticed something about the WWE DVD release of The Great American Bash set that came out.
They put a match on it pitting the Road Warriors vs. Sting and Lex Luger for the NWA World Tag Titles. And yes, that is a pretty sweet group of men competing against each other, it is in fact NOT on the GAB 88 tour.
The Road Warriors did not win the NWA Tag Titles until late October of 1988, months after the GAB tour was over with. So I find it odd that somehow that match found its way onto the DVD.
My guess is that..
A: The WWE figured nobody would know B: They didn't care C: They saw Sting, Luger and the LOD all in the ring at the same time and knew that would help sell the DVD release.
Still, pretty lame on the WWE's behalf.
