I'm just gonna go ahead and say... you're trying to understand something that doesn't necessarily need an explanation. No, it doesn't make sense. They're just names. I think I'm probably just holding on too tight to the good old days when you're number 1 guys were world champions (Flair & Hogan) and your number 2 guys were Intercontinental & U.S. champions (Ultimate Warrior & Lex Luger)

What the?
Listen.... unify the belts and get rid of the US title. No need to mess with a historic title like the Intercontinental Championship.

They'll likely unify them at SummerSlam if that's the goal. I expect Cesaro to win at Battleground and then Sheamus and Cesaro to face off for a unified title. If the night after SummerSlam is going to be the launch of the Network logo rebranding then it makes the most sense.

I sure hope Sheamus wins the Battle Royal at Battle Ground. I’d like to see Sheamus walk around for a month as the United-Continental Champion, holding both Straps. Then at or after SummerSlam, when the new / Network logo replaces the scratch logo on everything, I’d like to see a new single United-Continental Championship Title Belt created to replace the current Intercontinental and United States Championship Title Belts.

The world title is the only one worth a damn anyway. Who cares about mid card belts? Ambrose, Barrett, sandow and wyatt will never touch the wwewhc and the icus title is a prop that turns you into a jobber, so no winning for anyone.

I hope Christian comes back at the battle royal and wins the title.
Sheamus should defend the US title separately.

Props to Vin Mac for letting the big Gold & United States championship live on over a decade since he purchased wCw, but this is the WWE I think its time to go back to 3 main titles after the logo switch, World, I.C. & Tag Team. Maybe if Vince ever decides to sell or re-open wcw as a seperated brand all together those retried championships will have new life.

Unify the titles. Improve the stature of the IC title. Stop using the US championship. No more of this carrying around 2 titles at once. That includes the WWE & World championships. Agreed.

Getting rid of one of the belts won't help, the mid card is irrelevant. Having one title will just mean they'll job more because they aren't splitting it between two people. Winning that belt is a curse anyway, last person to win it and go onto something better was punk.

Winning the I.C. title really took Drew to the next level HaHaHa ahhh what a waste...
