As Cena made his entrance for the main event, he handed off the big gold belt to Flair.
If that belt appears on TV again, I'll be disappointed.

Yes the Big Gold is the best looking belt. But at this point, anything to not have them dragging two belts around anymore. It's silly.

Big Gold > WWE Title Design wise. I remember when Flair debuted the big gold in the late 80's. I immediately thought it looked like an updated, cooler version of AWA's inmate belt Bockwinkel/Martel/Hanson wore. |

Yes the Big Gold is the best looking belt. But at this point, anything to not have them dragging two belts around anymore. It's silly. Don't you think that it gives the title more prestige though? I remember all the Japanese wrestlers in PWI who carried 2 or more belts. I thought that was cool. Anything to make WWE seem more like "wrestling" at this point is fine with me. |

It would be one thing if they were two actual separate titles. But they aren't. They are unified. It makes no sense to carry two belts for one championship past the first few weeks of them being unified. If it was World and tag team or world and IC then I have no problem. But having to sling them around and drape them over your shoulders and neck is actually a little too casual for me. |

I was just hoping they would drag this two belts thing out until SummerSlam and then Brock would show up with a new belt the next night on Raw.

If it was up to me, back in December 2001 to April 2002, I would have had Chris Jericho carry the WWF Championship Title Belt (Big Eagle), the WCW Championship Title Belt (Big Gold), and the ECW Championship Title Belt (purple logo). I always thought that the World Champion should carry 3 Belts, then have the mid-card Champion carry 2 Belts. Then again, I’m just a SMark for Championship Title Belts.
I carried my Commemorative Spinner, Commemorative Big Gold and Commemorative WWECW Belts to a show once, and my shoulders were killing me by the end of the night. I guess it could be a pain to carry more than one.
I would have liked to have seen a big ceremony retiring the Big Gold Belt with John Cena and Ric Flair in the ring together. I definitely didn’t like the quiet handoff we got, but I do like that it's retired. Now it’s time for the United States Championship Title Belt to retire. I’d give it to Jack Swagger as an unsanctioned Title like the Million Dollar Belt.

I love the World title, but I think it's time to go. Hell, take the US title with you while you're at it.

And the US title will probably be retired this week too so then they have two less titles to remake with the Network logo next month.
I hope they start calling the WWE World Heavyweight Champion just the WWE Champion again too.

I’m glad this happened last night when my son was able to stay up late to see the Big Gold Belt for the last time. It was also nice to see his hero hand it over to one of mine.  |
