From Wrestlezone.com.....
According to PWInsider.com, WWE Hall of Famer Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat has been released from WWE due to the ongoing budget cuts.
Most recently, Steamboat had been working in NXT as a coach, and had been working in the WWE offices under Triple H in the talent relations department.
This past May, Steamboat had been doing promotional work for WWE in Malaysia, but he will be doing non-WWE DVD interviews and wrestling conventions in the coming months, which is a very likely sign he’s finished with WWE.
Wow.... very surprising, I thought Steamboat had a steady role backstage with WWE.
I look forward to meeting him on the independent tour he's sure to take (if he's following all the others Superstars who have been let go from WWE).
WWE's really making a lot of cuts! Maybe they needed to make room in the budget for Ric Flair?
*Hope this wasn't already reported - I was on the road yesterday & not on the forums too much....
Somebody in WWE's gotta get JACKSLAPPED for this....

Eh im not surprised. The guy was an amazing wrestler and probably a great trainer but I gotta believe his time training in the ring can't be much these days with the health scare issues he had back in 2010/2011. Was probably just enough reason with the budget cuts going around. Sad to see him go, but I understand the reasoning.

Really bad call in my opinion. He was probably the best trainer they had in NXT. At least regarding trainers that were workers.

His boat has ran out of steam.

His age, maybe he wasn't as good a coach as he was wrestler so this may just be a big name cut that actually didn't do much more than a standard trainer.
Although I could see this as a Dunn firing to get at triple h.

Never knew he was still with the company.
Good riddance though.

I could think of a few people I'd get rid of before him. Hopefully he'll be rehired in a few years like Finlay.

I remember being blown away in 2009 at how well he could still go, amazing.
I guess his release is understandable.

Back to ROH for him I assume.
I'd rather him head to TNA or Jerretts new company

His matches with Jericho at WM25/Backlash were great, it was truly wonderful to see how good he still was. I hope the best for this legend! Hope to see you soon Ricky!
