So I'm watching the main event, (Not on the network sadly) would this be considered one of the first times the crowd was very anti Cena? Everytime he is getting beat up the crowd cheers, when he makes a comeback the crowd boos like crazy. So was this the start of the booing for Cena? Because I can't remember any earlier

No the boos for Cena were present during his feud with Jericho & Angle too. They even got Angle to insult the US armed forces to try draw heat but it didn't work.
Prichard says HHH(in his wisdom at the time)said he should be given a feud with Cena because Angle & Jericho just weren't strong enough heels and couldn't help courting the crowd.....and that he would have the crowd cheering for Cena. Of course he failed miserably and was said to be stunned by the SAVAGE anti Cena atmosphere during their match @ WM22.

I kept reading that he made it his "personal mission" to get Cena over with crowds after WM22. I thought that was just dirt sheet speculation at the time. Eight years and about 10,000 Cena wins later, I'm pretty sure the sheets were on the mark in '06.

I specifically remember the first time noticing Cena getting such a reaction was the triple threat with Christian and Y2J. This was when Christian was at his hottest and the fans wanted to see him with the belt. Add in Jericho who has always been super over and it is easy to see why Cena was booed. Then he feuded with Angle who was just going on all cylinders in the ring and was incredibly respected. Honestly, HHH was somewhat right in thinking he could get him over, though not because he was a stronger heel but because he was generally disliked. Even that didn't work because at least he performed at a high level. Then you had feuds with RVD and Edge who the fans always wanted to see win the world title and it becomes a lot easier to see why Cena struggled for so long to get over in a meaningful way for the most part.

It was like once John Cena got drafted to Raw, he started to get the negative crowd reactions.
Side note, I mainly remember New Year's Revolution 2006 for the Bra and Panties Gauntlet Match. You know, besides the whole Edge thing.

Either I don't recall some of the reactions from the crowds in mid-2005 or what not, but there was really one specific moment for me that stood out that Cena was really getting trashed by crowds. I noticed bits and pieces here in there in late 2005 but I went to the first Raw of 2006 live where Cena/Angle faced off before the New Years Revolution PPV in a first blood match. Just listen to the crowd reaction for Angle over Cena, video doesnt even do it justice, that place was on fire for Angle and booed the hell out of Cena. It was after that, that I noticed crowds everywhere started to turn on Cena.

It was like once John Cena got drafted to Raw, he started to get the negative crowd reactions. When John Cena got drafted to RAW in 2005, that was when the WWE began shoving Cena down our throats. That is why people were going against Cena in the Summer of 2005, his feud with Kurt Angle, and later Edge. The crowd reactions at WrestleMania 22 was the icing in the cake. The fact Triple H was getting cheered proved that shoving guys down our throats is never a good thing. As for New Years Revolution 2006, I remember reading the coverage on NoDQ. When I read that Edge had cashed in and became the WWE Champion, I was ecstatic. It is funny how a new champion was declared for the three PPV's that took place in Albany, New York.

I fear that this same backlash will hit Roman Reigns if he gets pushed to the title before he's ready.

I believe this was the event that also had Eugene botch a drop kick and bugger his knee...ouch.
Regarding Cena, it astounds me just how long he's been booed whilst being a face; longer than some guys' careers in WWE, when you think about it...

That was the 2005 NYR when Eugene got hurt doing a dropkick in the opening match and then Lita got hurt like 3 minutes into her match.

Lita also hurt her knee during her match with Trish, which took place immediately after Eugene/Regal vs Christian/Tomko. As noted, the Cena hate began in mid-2005, when he started to feud with Christian and Jericho. I remember the Cena/Jericho match from SummerSlam that year, with half the crowd chanting "Let's go Cena" and the other half chanting "Let's go Jericho".

At the time I just put it down to fans always really liking Jericho no matter who he faced.....however as the crowd reactions declined I was more & more surprised. Angle addresses it on his shoot I think...its quite interesting to hear what he was thinking during these matches.

I remember being there live and the crowd ABSOLUTELY hated Cena, well except me since I was still a fan then. Still a great memory of Edge cashing in MitB to win the belt too...a shame he lost it back at the very next PPV. -_-

This is spot on. It all started wen Christian stated giving those great promos on how lame Cena's character is (lol maybe hats why Vince hates Christian). I think there were a lot of little things that turned the fans on Cena besides his lame character. Christian being made to look like a joke against him. Being in the Walls of Jericho for minutes at SS 2005 and not tapping. Being put in a submission match w/ Angle and Masters and all of a sudden pulling out a crappy STF to win. Going through an EC only to take a spear from a fresh Edge afterwards and still kicking out. A lot of these little things on top of his repetitive matches and lame character led to the fans backlash IMO. HHH may have been hated for his reign of terror on Raw but at least he had an interesting character. That and the fact hes a great heel and from the Attitude era are why the fans were begging for him to win at WM22. Never surprised me though that his go thought he would get the fans to cheer Cena.
