TMNT had one hell of an opening weekend didn't it? I think that has even surprised the Studio! Don't underestimate the power of the TMNT my friend.. The fans apparently came out of the wood work... Including myself.. . . . . And to the person that said "selling toys isn't an excuse to tell a bad story", or whatever.. No one said that.. I didn't even say that. I said Michael Bay can sell merchandise like a mad man. That had nothing to do with your version of "the backpacks and toys are cool, so I guess that makes up for a sh*tty plot".... You really nitpicked at a movie that had a ton to nitpick at.. That's like picking on a kid you knew had down syndrome.. WE ALL KNEW this new Ninja Turtles movie was going to be below average or sub-par.. But as a fan of the Turtles.. As someone who's childhood was impacted HUGE by the TMNT. I went and saw the movie, to enjoy the Ninja Turtles.. And I did. Very much. Sucks you didn't enjoy it.. Because alot of us did, and we did while being well aware of every single fault. Why? Because 10 plus years ago, hell, 5 years ago... We never thought there was the slightest chance of seeing live action Ninja Turtles on the big screen again. AND HERE WE ARE.

Well, I'm glad you still enjoyed it. Like I said, I'm not trying to make anyone else not like it, or judge anyone's taste. I just needed a place to point out my frustrations. Many of those nitpicks I probably could have lived with if the over all movie had been fun for me. It's not like I don't enjoy my share of bad movies. But it never was.
While some people were just happy to get TMNT on the big screen again, I think our long wait just made those issues that much stronger for me.
As far as the toy argument goes, I'm not even sure it was someone here who made it directly, but it's a general frustration I have. People will complain about a movie and the replies will be "It's just made to sell toys" or "It's made for kids" or even "It's just a big dumb action movie". And I don't think any of those are excuses. I wasn't accusing anyone here, just venting that frustration.
I've said my piece though, so I won't really talk about it much more. At the end of the day, I'm still happy that we have the current animated series, so if they want to make crappy movies, they can. They just won't get my movie dollar. Same as I haven't paid for Transformers film since the first one, and haven't even seen 3 and 4 in their entirety.

All I've heard most people say is "well it's better than Ninja Turtles 3".
Well no sh*t.
Ninja Turtles 3 was an abortion of a movie. Hell, you could do a documentary filming REAL turtles walking from the pond to the backyard and it would be more entertaining than Ninja Turtles 3.
Doesn't say much.

I went in expecting to hate it after all the bad press for it but I thoroughly enjoyed the hell out of it. I feel you need to be a lifelong TMNT fan to appreciate it the most, I thought they did a great job in making the source material believable in a real world environment, nothing felt overly cheesy or that far-fetched because they kept it somewhat grounded. The Turtle's personalities were great and I really dig the unique looks each one had, a lot of the shots had their faces reminding me of the classic cartoon.
I'd give it a solid 7/10, and was genuinely surprised that I came out of the theatre loving it.

If i was around the age when i used to be a fan in the early to mid 90's i would have loved this, i went with my 8 year old niece and she loved it. I thought it was OK i just didn't really like faces of the Turtles looked off to me. 6/10 for Nostalgia reasons.

considering this board loved gotg and i thought it was rubbish, i'll be staying miles away from this one. 92% of critics across the United States loved GOTG.. You're definitely in the minority on that one. But from someone that loved GOTG and enjoyed TMNT. The two films are not even comparable.. Not by miles.

It's one thing if you didn't like it.. That I can understand, I can accept an opinion.. It's different though to say "it truly is a mystery to how GOTG would garner so much praise".. It's not really a mystery unless you truly want to overlook the appeal. I have a ton of movies I disliked.. But I can usually always see why others liked it. Somethings are just not other peoples cup of tea.. Different strokes for different folks, know what I mean..

I wanted so bad to enjoy this movie, but I just couldn't. The story was awful, I cringed every time Michelangelo spoke, I couldn't get into a single thing that was going on. Half way through the movie I was checking the time...really was not feeling this flick.

Still haven't paid to see this, still won't. Likely can't imagine myself stopping to watch it on TV.
Saw the elevator scene on a website and couldn't help but chuckle. Not enough to get me going.
Sadly, Turtles at this point are basically Abraham Lincoln dead to me in that I can read about them once existing and being great but they're not around anymore.
Alright, that might be overdoing it a bit but I won't ever watch this or pay for it.

Just went and watched it with my wife. I have been a huge Turtles fan my whole life. After seeing in the previews that the story was gonna be a bit different than the usual one and that they were giants I was a little worried about it. But I went in with an open mind and as I do with all the comicbook inspired movies I promised not to get in the whiney fanboy mindset, complaining everytime something was different. And you know what...I had fun and actually really enjoyed it. Was it as good as the 1990s movies? No, but Turtles and Turtles 2 are some of my favorite movies and have watched them both a billion times since I was a little kid. So honestly if I was going to go into this movie comparing them, I wouldn't have even given myself a chance to like this one. All in all, I liked it. And I hope there are kids that will be wide eyed while watching this one, just as I was in the 90's.
