House of M is one of Marvel's best events. Bendis wrote a great story and Oliver Coipel did amazing on art. I highly recommend it.

I cant answer your question but in regards to comic collecting i stopped with all the current x-men comics. It was like reading love angst teenagers in high school. Wolverine and x-men, All new x-men and uncanny x-men. Too many kids in them books. Only DC for me.

It's just a four issue else-worlds mini. House of M is where it's at!

House of M doesn't have every X-men story in it. The X-Men universe is huge, and it's pretty much impossible to read every story. I'd recommend a reading order, it will really broaden your experience and you'll learn a lot about the universe. I think this one is pretty solid. You'll understand everything. I myself almost always use recommended reading order, that's what i'm doing with Deadpool now. acomicbookblog.com/2011/08/x-me-where-to-start-reading/

It's four giant volumes and can get mind-numbing, but that might just be me...
