That's nice. Entertainment. Movies. Scripted stuff. I GET that. Back in reality people actually die for that flag. Every day. If you don't care, that's fine. Why insult those that do respect US history and the military that fight for our freedom? That said, even if this wasn't an accident at the PPV, the hostility over a produced tv show is silly.

Oh I wasn't saying I don't care. I'm not one to insult the military or anything like that. But I agree, it's a lot of hostility over a produced TV show and what was probably a mistake.

It meant nothing, people need to lighten the up. It doesn't matter if people fight for the country or not, they're fighting for the country not a flag touching the floor on a TV Show. It's a ing stupid reason to bitch about.

If I have an American Flag with me at a WWE show and I hold it up when Swagger comes out, then I put it in my lap
is that disrespectful? because my lap is closer to the ground than a WWE ring mat.

Jesus H. Christ what do they teach in schools down there. How the hell do I have more respect for that flag than the citizens that actually live there? I am seriously being driven mad by the non-chalance towards this. How can a person not comprehend the reason for any sort of backlash to this? It's seriously maddening!

I get the feeling we're agreeing to disagree on this subject. I just happen to take the meaning of a flag seriously so I can understand why people would be upset. I wouldn't exactly call it getting offended over nothing. I'm not going to force you to care as deeply about it as others do but I am suggesting that maybe you don't jump on them for having respect for "a piece of cloth" as some have referred to it here.

It's the concept here that the people angry about the flag dropping on the mat are out of line versus the reality of what the flag represents. In movies and entertainment (such as the WWE) a flag can be worn, spit on, burned and even danced upon without much resistance. It's a way to get cheap heat or pointed anger towards the circumstances surrounding it. In the real world, it's beyond disrespectful and some people can't get past the fact that while it is "just a flag", it represents so much more. While I don't think it's mostly the lack of education, (though I'm sure that's getting worse year by year) it's a lot of society today. The words "tolerance" and "coexist" are thrown around much too easily, especially in light of certain events over the past couple years. What that really means to many is "your opinion is different than mine, so I can be as disrespectful to you as I want because I'm entitled to do so".

Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean they're automatically disrespectful. There are douche bags on every side of an argument.

I am a disabled veteran of the United States Navy. Some of the comments here are sickening, but it is also a sign of the times that we are now living in. The younger generation of today in general does not have a whole lot of respect for anything but themselves, the newest iphone, and their standing on social media. I agree with whats been said, that 1. it's being blown up into a bigger deal than it is, 2.the flag did not touch the actual ground, it did however touch the mat that people are walking and spitting on, and that isn't right either, 3. What Shawn Michaels did to the Canadian flag in 1997 was much more disrepectful than an accidental moment of the American flag touching the canvas. But the many statements that I have read saying "it's just a flag" is practically the same as spitting in the face of every service member that has ever fought, died, or disabled themselves in defense of YOUR freedoms that the American flag represents. I do not think that the WWE did anything wrong in this case, but some of you need to take a peek outside of your sheltered, protected little Twitter filled lives and show some respect and consideration for the men and women who have fought for the rights for you to live those lives.

I totally agree that there are ignorant people on every side of each equation. I did say "what that really means to many" without throwing a blanket statement over everyone that disagrees with something. All one needs to do is turn on a new channel right freaking now and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. This particular argument runs deeper than what happened at Summerslam. And one side of it has a lot more disrespect coming out of it compared to the other.

Get. Over. It.
So sick of this 'Merica bullsh*t. This country has been imploding for 2 weeks and people are bitching about the rights of a flag on a professional wrestling show?

My only complaint is that Rusev is just terrible and should become one of Adam Rose's rosebuds.

I guess this kind of symbolism is pretty much lost on me; in my mind, you can't just lump together an entire nation of people and say, "That flag is America". To me, it's not America, it's not the US military, it's a piece of fabric. And that is no disrespect intended to ANYONE. It's not even disrespect towards the flag, because I don't really think I can disrespect an inanimate object.
I love America's freedoms, and I respect anyone who has ever fought to protect them in any capacity, I just don't get the idea of venerating an inanimate object. Is that so horrible?
