Here's a legitimate question I've been meaning to ask, ever since this thread popped up.... Given the known nature of engines (heavy, complex machine, heat give-off,etc), is there another material (like rubber, or something sturdy, but bouncy) that could be used to make cars of (ala bumper cars), so cars could be really safe, for the most part stopping death in wrecks? And repair costs too....
I had looked around before, and some others had said rubber cars, but where do the experts stand, versus us dreamers? What would it take to make this type car a reality?
Thank you all for the discussion to come. Much love.

I'll say this, I don't know if that would work, because in bumper cars you can get whiplash real bad, I also think unless it's really thick rubber it could still bend. Also, if it's thick, I think if it would hit another car that's like the ones we have now, it will demolish it completely, it only protects that driver. I'm not sure if it would work or not. Is it possible? Yes, anything is. Is it likely? Probably not, considering a tire cost $70-$100, the rubber to make it would be a fortune.

VPV I would imagine that using plastic/metal helps absorb impact during crashes where rubber on rubber would just bounce the forces around and cause even more damage. Think of an Indy car. At 230mph they hit a concrete wall and completely shatter and *usually* the driver comes out unharmed. Now put that same car as a rubber car and it hits the wall, all the impact will be absorbed not by the shattering of the car but by the physical car and person inside of it.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. After reading y'alls posts, I realize rubber may not be the complete answer, unless speed is reduced, but I do hope there is a better solution than fiberglass. Someone dies in a car everyday, and I thought it might be nice to begin the talk of solving that issue.... much respect.

This that Blazer you was talking about? ya its the one i stated on when i made the thread Awesome! I found another truck I am very interested in, but I don't want the blazer to get away from me. The truck is a red (my favorite color) Silverado 4 wheel drive with 3rd door, and has a brush guard and the overhead headlight bar on it, but what scares me is it's only $2083. I don't know if it's the deal of the century or it had been in a bad wreck that messed with the frame.

I doubt the vehicle has frame damage. if it did, the insurance would have to total it. just talk to the guy and ask whats wrong with it if there is any problems with it

Don't worry, she doesn't have a phone but I'm emailing her about it right now.

I am 100% chevy. I have a 1991 chevy 1500 that i bought when i was a junior in high school. This has been the best truck i have ever had. I have only owned chevy trucks. My dad and my uncle both restore classic cars so i learned alot growing up.My dad currently has a 1937 chevy 2 door sedan project that we are working on.
My dream would be a 1972 chevy shortbed fleetside. That was my first truck and i regret selling it.

Well, I don't know. It looks great. I'm gonna contact her more and see if there is anything wrong. Hell, for all I know she might be late on bills or something.

Oh man. Perfect.
She said not a thing wrong with it. She said only reason the price is what it is is because she's going on Military Leave on the 15th.

She said she needs the $2050 for her mom, she's about to go to Afghanistan as a Medic and wants her to have some money. Don't know why the random 50 but eh. She ships it to me for free and the thing she's using we have a 5 day "grace period" where if I don't want it after that 5 days she can have it back and I get my money back no harm done. That's the best part about it. Plus she's in the military. I'm the type of guy that won't low ball anyone, especially a woman in the armed forces. The truck is worth about $6,000 so I won't complain about the $2050.

I can understand about not negotiating with her though. either way its cheap lol
