It's the 30th and 25th anniversaries of both respective Ghostbusters movies, and while the first one is rightfully getting much attention, the sequel as usual is left in the dust. I think it's sorely underrated and I think it getss way too much scorn. I can understand thinking the original is better and I'd never argue or dispute that, but I think GB2 in it's own way is still an awesome movie that deserves so much more respect than it gets. I find it's just as entertaining and smart as the first with the same winning balance of scares and humor, much of the cast is back and still has the same great chemistry as before and I always really enjoyed the river of slime plotline and thought Vigo was a great villain. It's just as quotable for me as the original is, too.
The original is an undisputed and genre-defining classic, but I always felt GB2 was great in it's own way and I can never imagine Ghostbusters without also thinking of GB2. Any other fans who feel similarly?

After watching ghostbusters 1, I was close to not watching ghostbusters 2 because I felt the original ghostbusters was just put together very oddly, and quite frankly I wasn't to big of a fan. I think ghostbusters II is much better. The originals structure was just so weird. It felt like it went incredibly slow to build the story but then the ending was rushed. At least with ghostbusters II it was well structured It may be an unpopular opinion, but just my two cents

Ghostbusters 2 feels like glorified fan fiction. It never did much for me.

Ghostbusters II is awesome IMO and I will always love it. However.....the original movie is just so much better to me.
GB II could have been much better had it not been plagued by production problems and cast members interfering(looking at you Murray)
But I still like it for what it is.

I enjoy the second film. I think the end is a bit strange though to be honest. It gets a bit too psychedelic, I guess if that's what you want to call it, for my liking. I mean that in a visual way as well, as it looks pretty rough in the effects department and hasn't aged particularly well. The dialogue was great, which is why I love Ghostbusters anyway. I don't really have a problem with it at all and I think it holds up as a quality sequel. Vigo as the villain was a great premise and we got some pretty amazing Winston one liners. The banter was as good in the second as it was in the first.
That being said, it doesn't touch the first one for me. I don't think it really stood a chance. You get introduced to that world and the development of those characters was there and the comedy was lights out. Just a bit of a perfect storm for me with the first one.

Ghostbusters 2 is a completely worthy sequel IMO. Not as good as the original, which it was never going to be. But it does its job in giving you more of something great without being bad (see: Jurassic Park 2).
I wish Three Amigos had got a sequel, especially if it was as worthy as GB2.

Ghostbusters II gets a lot of hate. I like the part where Ray and Winston are now doing birthday parties and the kids are chanting for He-Man. It reminded me of MattyCollector and uncannily predicted that both toylines would be sold on there. If I was one of those kids, I'd be grateful that the Ghostbusters were at my birthday party

I'm not a fan of GB2. I really really wanted to be, but I couldn't.

It has some good & some bad. The character that plays the bad ghost's minion is kind of what ruins a lot of it for me. However, I love the sewer full of ooze, I love the characters being "back" & more weathered from the fallout of the destruction that put the busters in debt up to their eyeballs --- I think the story just couldn't top the first and fell a bit short of classic.

Peter MacNicol was great in this; I enjoy both movies for what they are.

It's an okay movie... it just isn't nearly as good as the first one.
Two great things about this that I do want to point out, however: #1) The opening (*BOOM!* FIVE YEARS LATER) and #2) improved proton pack sound effects. Neither should be overlooked!

Obviously they couldn't mention TMNT who Kenner were directly blaming for GBs demise on the Toy Aisles.....

I was still plenty into He-man in 89 because I was getting all the toys on discount haha. I was really into the VHS tapes too though by that time. I think in reality, those kids should have been demanding Pee-Wee Herman. Hulk Hogan probably would have been applicable as well.

Man I never would have thought of that......fair play to ya chief!!

I was 2 in 1989 and I was a He-Man fan. Maybe late to the game but I remember he was still quite popular around that time.

I definitely enjoyed that second one better, but I'm a big exploitation fan and I loved how crazy and everywhere the second one was. Both movies are great classics period, and I agree the second one is definitely under looked. People don't like movies that are crazy for the sake of being crazy anymore.

I would never say GB2 is better than the first, but I do think both are equal in many ways.

I don't like how they changed the graphics on the Ecto-1 in Ghosbusters 2
