Nope, I love the Build A Figure series. Price doesn't bother me either. You can't afford them? Simple, don't buy them. Theres no way we'd see Michael Cole or John Laurinaitis in the Elite or even Basic line so I'm all for it. At the same time though, John Laurinaitis should have a Defining Moments figure or even an entire series dedicated to him. Who in the even wants a John Laurinaitis figure to begin with? I do lol

It's a good way for Mattel to get people to buy 4 repaints. Not a BAF fan. This exactly. Some people will buy anything.

What gets to me is the price point. The BAF elites cost 3 dollars more than regular elites at my TRU. So 3 extra dollars times 4 is 12 dollars. For 12 dollars, which is a discount not a free figure, im getting a BAF elite I want. BUT on the other hand im buying 4 figures I didnt want.

It blows my mind how people who have no experience or knowledge in the toy industry honestly believe they know more than Mattel.

I wish they would just do with the Vince figure. Let us buy whatever figures we want and mail the upcs. We still get figures we want and not repaints or figures we've gotten before.

It'd be cool if they did BAF Divas in the boxes. And yes, make the 4 required figures less shelfwarmer-ey

mrassbillygunn I'm with you on this. MattelDesignTeam… one word to sum up the BAF series fiasco, equalize. Your current strategy is to make more of the "popular figures" however it defeats the concept of the line.

I feel like if I am going to buy Jim Ross, then the figures should pertain to Jim Ross. People he is well known for signing to WWE ala Lesnar, Cena, Austin, Pillman, Foley, etc. Or hell throw in Dr. Death Steve Williams.
Same for Heenan. Release some of the Heenan family in order to build Heenan.
Hart . . . Hart Foundation or any other teams he may have managed.
Then you have double the appeal to buy the set. Pick up some figures that won't be released in the main lines and get a build a figure that you can't get anywhere else. It seems to me that the whole buy Cena, Ziggler, Del Rio, Sheamus, and Punk every set to build a new figure method isn't working. Otherwise, I wouldn't still be able to build Teddy Long, Booker T, or Paul Heyman every time I visit a Toys R Us.

Like going with the JR thing, package his BAF pieces with "defining moments" he had on Play By Play. (ie: Mick Foley figure comes with a JR Part, has "He's Broken in Half!" quote on the box). Or they could do entire themes, like Kane in the different gear he's been in throughout the years - might even be able to pull off a BAF XPac or Taker.

I feel like everyone in this thread: A) has no idea how a business works B) is a petulant child C) has no patience D) all of the above Well lets see. We post on a wrestling figures forum - its safe to say not many would know how a business works, yes you are correct. Petulent child - yea i can see that argument. Has no patience - Irrevelant to the point in question. Quit sticking your nose up Mattels rear end. This was a relevant question to bring up that many collectors are obviously not happy about. For people like you to make a point of good business for Mattel, i dont get that. Its good business for Mattel to listen to the customers who buy their products. You shouldnt be interested in how Mattel make their money thats not your concern. Leave that for Mattel to worry about. Your on a figures forum where people are healthily debating a valid concern. To chip in like a few others have and say, well Mattel gotta make money. Thats not your worry so i never buy that argument from anyone on here it adds zero validity. We all get that they are a business and they need to make a buck...but dude that applies to everyone in every day life. Maybe you should go work for Mattel and sit around a table discussing whats good for business on their behalf since your all about business, because you would certainly add more to their pockets than you would your own as a consumer. I get where you are coming from BUT this is a collectors forum where we want to debate if its a good idea for BAF to continue and going by the majority of the reponses people arent for it. So maybe Mattel do need to rethink this one if we arent happy. THAT is what is good for business!

The only customer Mattel is going to listen to are the ones that matter and that would be the retailers. They are the ones who dictate what Mattel makes. Because they are the ones who Mattel's sales are based on.
FlexForce was their number one selling WWE line for two years. Why? Because Mattel's sales are based on what the retailers ordered from Mattel. Not what we purchase as consumers from retailers. That is why Legends failed at retail. That is why the ESR failed at retail. And as long as TRU wants the BAF exclusives Mattel is going to make it for them.

So maybe Mattel do need to rethink this one if we arent happy. THAT is what is good for business! I highlight that word because I have to ask the question about all the people complaining about BAFs. The express purpose of a Build-a-Figure is for COLLECTORS. You collect the four figures so that you can add one more figure to your collection. Whatever happened to the thrill of the hunt? That's my point on "has no patience." Oh, it's so annoying to have to wait to finish my BAF figure cause I can't find all four figures right away in stores!" Yes, it is an extra cost to you, and maybe you don't want the repeated characters, but Mattel has done a good job the past two series of make the figures desirable on top of adding to the collection. The patience also has to do with the Bearer set. OBVIOUSLY, it's coming eventually. We know it exists. It's just a matter of when. People are just impatient because they know it's out there but they don't have it yet. If the Big Johnny/Teddy/Booker sets weren't so overproduced, the new sets would have been more readily available and people wouldn't be complaining quite so much. I can't say that 100%, but that's my opinion. I thought the Heyman and Kane Elite sets were awesome. I don't collect basics, but the Bearer set was pretty solid, too - though now it's outdated.

I actually love the baf series and if I may say so I think that they have chosen very good figures for this series. I buy the ones I want and if I don't want the figure I sell it or I look on ebay for the missing part easy and fun search and very rewarding when you finally get that last piece ur missing.

Totally agreed. The BAF series just pushes the prices of the figure up. International buyers like us cannot afford them!

And Ricardo's basic rotted even though he was a kid friendly character at the time. The collectors complained about not finding Zeb because he was shortpacked. And Heyman was in a 2-Pack with Brock and that was the pegwarmer of the wave. With BaF more collectors will get to find the figure as a BAF than they would if he was released in a regular assortment because they would need to be shortpacked. I have never seen a child say "oh I want a Michael Cole" (or a JR, etc) The only way most get released are as a BAF. Location matters. It took me an eternity to see just one Ricardo figure on the shelves. I eventually didn't have trouble finding him, but he was easily the bought figure from that set at any store I saw the series at. And Heyman/Brock Battle Pack? That one was easily the "chase" set around here. I still don't know how stores got rid of the several Taker/Punk packs I saw rotting away months after the set had dropped. Again, location matters. What's tough to find somewhere may rot elsewhere and vice-versa. I'm not a kid, but I still gravitate toward the more unusual entries in a Basic set. We get so many Cenas, Mysterios, Big Shows, et al, that something like a Ricardo or Zeb inclusion instantly catches my attention.
