The 9/15 episode of Raw garnered 3,826,000 viewers, the lowest audience since last May. The show started out with 3,900.000 viewers in Hour One. The John Cena-Brock Lesnar tease, where WWE pretty much admitted the two would face off at "half-time", brought Hour Two up to 3,949,000 viewers. Unfortunately, that then left Hour Three to drop down to 3,629,000 viewers. That would be the lowest rated third hour since December 2013. You know WWE is not happy about that. Raw's primary competition, the NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Indianapolis Colts brought in 14,891,000 viewers. The fact that they continue to sell themselves as being better/more popular than major sports in this country is not only insulting, it's ing stupid and it makes them look sooooooo bad. Maybe instead of TRYING to over-sell themselves, they should focus on putting out a watchable product with the immense amount of talent they have. THUS THEN they wouldn't need to over-sell anything and people would watch because it actually is worth watching. Not because they get sh*t celebrity appearances or ratings spikes because of Lesnar and this weel Lesnar's bringing in 50k more viewers huh? good thing he's not there all the time! it definitely makes his appearances so much more exciting!

What do you expect them to do? If you have a business you're gonna sell it as the best. You're not gonna walk out all "Well, NFL season is starting, we're not as big or as good as them, but just plz stay with us."
It doesn't matter how good or how bad it is, they're going to do it either way.
Welcome to the strange world of promoting yourself.

they arent promoting themselves. they are actually trying to make people think they are more popular than the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL etc. and it's pretty much the only thing they do.
There's a difference between promoting yourself and acting like you're the greatest entity in the world when your ratings are DROPPING and the overall interest in your product is DROPPING.
I wouldn't care if it didn't seem like they put A LOT of effort into the promoting, and minimal effort into...you know...the PRODUCT
even Burger King made new french fries....they don't go out week after week with their ads saying "our fries are better than mcdonald's, wendy's, your local restaurant, arby's & subway"

Perception is reality with the general public. We're gonna think what we think no matter what, but if WWE says we're the greatest damned thing out there, the general public might feel that, but if WWE says well we're ok, we're not as big as our competition, but we're ok, the general public might feel that too, and that's not what they want to be talked about as. It doesn't matter how you feel on the current product and if you like it or not, or if anyone likes it or not, they're still going to promote themselves as the biggest must see **** in the world. TNA ing blows but they still do it. Should they stop promoting themselves because people they suck? No. Should they admit they suck in the public? No. And businesses and products do that 'We're better than _______'s version" all the time. It doesn't matter if it is or not, they're promoting themselves and want the general public to perceive them as the best and biggest.

Am I the only person on here that actually really enjoys the WWE Product? What do you enjoy? I'm genuinely curious. As for the topic at hand, I agree. Brock is wasted money and while he is one of the best things going he either needs to show up more or just leave for good. It's time for new blood at the top, preferably people with mic skills too. God I miss Punk. And 2010 Barrett.

I have no opinion on it whatsoever, if I'm not watching, I'm not seeing it, but what I think what the OP is trying to say is there is nothing wrong with promoting yourself as the best and hyping the product and all, just don't say stuff that's blatantly untrue that sounds ridiculous. I could see that. If One Direction said they were bigger than the Beatles, they'd get criticized and laughed at for saying it regardless of how true they feel it is. Same concept here I think.

Brock is wasted money and while he is one of the best things going he either needs to show up more or just leave for good. It's time for new blood at the top, preferably people with mic skills too. God I miss Punk. And 2010 Barrett. The slow build of Seth Rollins as THE top heel in wrestling. The cult following of dean Ambrose The vast improvement and meteoric rise of roman reigns The pure wrestling masterpiece that is NXT The signing of top talent from around the world Wyatt as a character The great matches of Cesaro(a bit disappointed in how he's Handled but not enough to make me hate the rest of the product) Luke Harper and Dolph Ziggler. Brock vs Cena and making Cena look like just another man Paul heyman on the mic This whole "new generation wave" that's slowly sweeping in I mean think about it how Great was NXT takeover fatal four way? How great was the two out of 3 falls between they Wyatt's and Usos? What about Ambrose and Rollins constantly stealing the show in a heated fued that saw one man curb stomped through Cinder Blocks? How about cesaro pulling great matches out of everyone from Cena to Barrett to sheamus? How about Barrett and sheamus tearing the house down on raw not too long ago. I've fallen back in love with wwe in 2011 and 2011 and 2014 are two of my favorite years ever EDIT: so much to put I forgot Bryan's while run on top and his slow rise. Not to mention how everyone has picked their game up since punk left and Bryan got injured. I feel like people take wrestling too personally if this guys not hot shoted to the top or that guy is too fast they're quick to judge without letting it play out. No one has the patience for a slow build I feel if everyone kicked back and said I'll see where this goes before I judge they'd enjoy wrestling a lot more. Then at the end of the angle you can judge and hey if they ed up they ed up but I've found my self saying a lot more lately you know what I actually enjoyed that. Hell the only things I think they've really screwed up in 2014 is not having swagger go over rusev and post mania cesaro

See, there is my problem. I want less matches and more mic time. I don't find a match with no story entertaining, it actually bores the hell out of me. I enjoy NXT but feel it could use a little more character development because so far almost everyone that has come up has flopped. And the way Wyatt is being used is just sad, he was so over before the cancer that is John Cena, now he's nothing.

Am I the only person on here that actually really enjoys the WWE Product? I enjoy the product or I would quit watching entirely but my enjoyment is definitely at a low point I've not experienced since the early 90s. I've watched the WWF/WWE product since the early 80s and it has had its highs and lows. Right now it is at a serious low point. If they had some real competition maybe that would light a fire under their ass. They don't so the only wake-up call they will get is if ratings continue to drop, network subscriptions don't meet up to expectations, and merchandise stops selling.

Haven't watched since the end of August. Watching the product is really just painful for me, it's an absolute snooze fest, it just hurts to watch the product in its current state. The WWE needs to step it up. Sure they aren't going to beat out NFL, but that's the problem. Creative and the writers seem to have this negative mindset whenever something bigger comes along, write better storylines, gain interest and I don't think they're currently even scraping the essence of interest.

I get what you're saying, but looking at the ratings for any one particular show, especially when there is no direct wrestling competition, is failure to see the forest through the trees. But, I don't disagree with the general notion that the company's poor current product are largely the cause of these ratings.
The problem is, other than having Brock as the dominating champ that can actually *gasp!* beat Cena clean, they have a stale product. That doesn't generate growth; they're going through the motions and simply maintaining its audience (or slowly but gradually losing it). The company REALLY needs is a huge shot in the arm... biting the bullet and turning Cena heel would probably do it. Yeah, they'll take a hit at the merchandise stands, which will be temporary... I would fully expect total merch sales to increase dramatically after about six months or so.
If they turned Cena and really built the company around him as a heel, I wouldn't be shocked to see ratings at or near 4.0 every week. To me it's blatantly obvious that they have to do it if they want a chance at another hot period like the mid-90s. I fully expect that until they do that, they'll never get another rating above 4.0 again, except MAYBE the night after Wrestlemania each year... but otherwise I have a hard time seeing them get close again for the next five years.

I don't think it's lack of character development that hurt the NXT call ups, it's more of how they're used, or lack thereof. Bo Dallas, Bray Wyatt and Adam Rose all bring something different to the table and have unique characters. Bray has been destroyed to the point where I'm not even interested in it. Bo Dallas can be entertaining as hell and a solid piece of the mid-card. Adam Rose is the least developed since he only had the character for a short time before the callup, but it's still different than anything else on the roster.
