www.comingsoon.net/news/tvnews.php?id=123252HBO confirmed today that Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn will star in the second season of HBO's "True Detective." Justin Lin is set to direct the first two episodes. In the second season, three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder. Colin Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him. Vince Vaughn is set to play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner. Additional casting will be announced as it is confirmed. The eight-episode, hour-long drama is set to begin production later this fall in California. The series is created and written by Nic Pizzolatto. The critically-acclaimed first season was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga and starred Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Potts and Tory Kittles. =========================================================== . This is gonna be good.

I don't think it's quite as strong of a marquee as last season, but I'm incredibly interested nonetheless.
I was really hoping the Elizabeth Moss rumors were true, though. She's so good.

vince vaughn actually strikes me as good casting. his early roles were often in gritty crime thrillers. sure, his career has taken a right nose dive and he's probably consistently in some of the worst movies in hollwood lately but i won't count him out. i can also just picture him as a criminal, with his more mature and creepy look he's sporting these days. i could see this being another rust, where everyone's like when the hell did this happen. granted mcconaughey was already on the rise but i think vaughn has it in him. then again maybe i'm just h
farrell is a decent actor, he's just a terrible leading man. i think his career looks bad on paper because hollywood seem to want to push him as an a lister. he can't carry a film on his own, but if you look at his work where he was given good material and a slightly different role, he's nailed it. off the top of my head, in bruges and minority report are good examples.
i've seen a lot of criticism about these two and in some ways it's deserved, but i also think there's a good chance they're capable of filling mm and harrelson's shoes. i mean hell, it's not like these two had a string of decent films going for them either.
just gotta hope the director is good. what's that? justin lin of the fast and furious franchise?
ok, RIP true detective x

I think he has leading man ability -- just not in terrible movies. He may have been the best part of Daredevil, too. I'm calling it now, Vince Vaughn steals the show and walks away with an Emmy Nod next Season.

I am very excited for this. I believe both guys will kill the roles given to them.

This will change both of their careers! For the better. I reckon it'll thrust them both back into the mainstream and the leading man position.
I think Farrell is great! He can lead, he just gets crappy roles sometimes. I think it took him going back to Irish and British films to reinvigorate him and his passion.
He's ready.
And Vince is going to do incredible. His old roles where he was serious, dramatic, and down right psychopathic are brilliant. This will bring that back.
Both these men will see a career resurgence.

I'm glad this season won't be as dark as the first one was. Don't know if I could handle that again. lol

Someone above nailed it. Colin Farrell is a capable enough actor such that if he is fully engaged, and is surrounded by a movie that works, he can be very good. But it's also really obvious when he's phoning in a performance because he doesn't believe in the movie.
I'm sure he'll be great in this. I'm a little wary of Vince Vaughn, because the only real drama I ever saw him in, the Psycho remake, was awful and he was super duper awful in it.

I'm happy with both leads. They are severely underrated actors, though I think that's at least partially down to their choices in rolls (especially in Vaughn's case). I can't wait to see it.

Vince Vaughn can play a GREAT psychopath.. He only does mediocre/sh*tty movies anymore because he got lazy..
But I assure you that Vaughn can act, I've seen him turn it on, and each time I find myself thinking "why has he not done this more".

At first, I thought Vaughn was going to play a serious cop & I was ready to pass on this right away. Phew.

I used to think Vince Vaughn was the next great comedy star, but it turns out he's barely above Adam Sandler territory. I hope this series helps him out of the gutter, though I fear that it's just going to buy him more time to make more terrible PG-13 comedies.

Imo this seems like a letdown. I do hope my lowered expectations lead me to being pleasantly surprised.
