I know very little about WCW in general but I have looked up some Dungeon of Doom stuff..what the hell was WCW thinking during this?
Did any of you actually enjoy this when you were watching? This all seems so out of place in wrestling...

Yeah, the Dungeon of Doom was not good. It's a shame cause Kevin Sullivan when he had his Army of Darkness in the Florida territory was awesome, but the Dungeon of Doom kind of failed.

I love going back and watching it now just for the pure absurdity of it. But as for when it was actually happening....yikes! It was just a band of WWF misfits. always felt bad for John Tenta after though.

On the Timeline of WCW for 1996, Kevin Sullivan told Sean Oliver that the Dungeon of Doom was created to protect Hulk Hogan.
He said for years in the WWE, Hogan faced cartoonish characters, and Hogan was almost threatened by the Ric Flairs, Arn Andersons, and Brian Pillmans of WCW. So Kevin created the Dungeon of Doom for Hulk Hogan to feud with.
Probably 90% of the Dungeon of Doom consisted of former WWE stars Hogan faced in the 80s or early 90s.

As a kid I enjoyed the Dungeon but now can see why it was so poorly received. It was several years behind the times for wrestling and Hogan. I think it could have been tweeked slightly with different characters and wrestlers and may have gone over better. I think even small kids would know Zodiac and Shark as guys Hogan was wrestling a year ago, and beating. I think of it like the n w o in that once it kept adding more and more guys to the mix, it went down hill fast. Amazingly, Hogan kept on with the Dugeon into the spring time. Adding Flair and Anderson didn't help, though. He was beating them a year to two years earlier.

One of the worst things in wrestling history. This. You can actually relive it somewhat on the Nitros that are on the Network. At least the first 12 or so have it.

It was pretty bad. I guess I was 13-14 at the time. I guess for nostalgia it was ok to see Quake and Brutus fighting Hogan, but it was too cartoonish, and none could be considered serious challengers. They did at least make the Giant believable and a viable opponent. It was just too over the top. They were definitely channeling early 90s WWF. Back then, I guess I did find some of it enjoyable probably because I was a Hogan fan.

one of the reasons 1995 was such a bad year in general. BOTH companies - WWF and WCW - were riddled with crappy storylines and over the top cartoonish characters. a lot of people like to pretend that the WWF was this cartoonish kid's wrestling factory, forgetting that WCW was just as bad in many respects - Zodiac,Shark,Yeti,Hugh Morris,The Master,Johnny B. Badd, Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker,The Bluebloods,Dave Sullivan,Disco Inferno,Prince Iaukea,Renegade, and Big Bubba Rogers all competed in WCW in 1995. now, granted, some of these guys were good to great wrestler, but they were saddled with horrible gimmicks and horrible storylines, showing WCW was still in the phase of trying to copy the WWF and their themes. hell, even DDP was a way over the top character in 1995 going into 1996!

"I've never been here before!"
God, that was awkward.
I was really young at the time this was happening live so I'm only familiar with it through YouTube videos and stories on here. I'm sure at the time if I had been watching this when I was younger I would have been scared shitless, but many of these storylines do not age well.

The group may have been crap, but I still think their entrance theme was quite good:
