Jericho's heel character in 2010 and Punk's SES character were the only 2 characters in god knows how long that weren't just generic cowardly heel. Jericho's character in 2010 was genius. Fandango working with Jericho was taylor made to kickstart his career. heel jericho in 2010? genius? we did watch the same heel jericho in 2010, right? i can agree that they weren't generic cowardly heels...but this jericho really wasn't that good imo Considering how people regard Jericho Vs Shawn Michaels as possibly one of the greatest feuds of all time, yeah his 2010 heel character was incredibly brilliant. We're getting terribly off topic though. The point is that Fandango is a talented enough wrestler that he could have made the gimmick work as the kind of bizarre dancer and it definitely could have been a modern PG take on the Goldust character

I remember when Fandango was cool for a week. And which week was that? Coming off WrestleMania 29. He got hurt and cooled off. Decent talent but nothing special. I wouldn't say the WWE "dropped the ball" with him.

I remember when Fandango was cool for a week. And which week was that? WrestleMania 29 through the following week, when "Fandangoing" was getting some attention with the viral videos and iTunes charting. Dirty Curty > Fandango.

His music was over. Dancing gimmicks can only last so long and be over for a short period. He's talented but a dancing gimmick

He's a good talent that wanted called up so badly he took any gimmick he could. But the dancing gimmick had a short shelf life. He's the modern day Spirit Squad.
Curtis needs to be tweaked or repackaged and brought back. They could play up his Total Divas appearances and make him into a playboy. Or maybe put him in a tag team with Gabriel or Slater. He's too talented to have sitting at home.

Why can't a dancing gimmick be long-term? Goldust was a long term gimmick, there as silly as the other

Why can't a dancing gimmick be long-term? Goldust was a long term gimmick, there as silly as the other I wouldn't consider Goldust silly. He was interesting as hell when he debuted and was incredibly different. He drew heat that Fandango never could when he did all of those little mannerisms. Plus, the mark of a great talent can sometimes be how they overcome a gimmick that wouldn't work in someone else's hands. Like a Goldust, Cody making Stardust work, Damien Sandow making Mizdow must see or Dolph Ziggler getting over. Johnny Curtis isn't that good to begin with. He's not bad, just not very good.

Why is Dolph Zigglers gimmick hard to do anyway?

Why is Dolph Zigglers gimmick hard to do anyway? Early on with the "Hi, I'm Dolph Ziggler". He had to get past that and the ridiculous name and managed to become a solid mid-card guy because he can work one hell of a match. I'll admit that Fandango has done well with the gimmick but has hasn't made the character must see. Never have I said, "man I cannot wait to see Fandango" or "That Fandango match has me excited." The guy just was never that good. Even take a Tyler Breeze on NXT. That dude LIVES the gimmick. His Twitter, his mannerisms, everything is tremendous and he delivers when it counts in the ring. I want to see Breeze when he's on screen. I want to see Stardust actually. I want to see Mizdow. I don't care if I see Fandango or not. He's been gone and I don't miss him one bit.

Nah. Fandango has never been a strong character. Ok so he likes dancing...alright. Then what? There has been ZERO character development other than:
- He likes dancing - He doesn't like when people pronounce his name incorrectly
So.......what else? I'm not saying it's his fault but I don't think they have "wasted and ruined" a character which was weak to begin with.

I love the guy, the gimmick sucked. I think it was a situation where he bought into the character extremely well, and he kind of made something out of nothing for at least a solid stretch of time. I hope they repackage Curtis and bring him back for another go-round because I think he's pretty great. It was fun while it lasted but there was nothing more he could do with Fandango.

Even Jericho admitted on his recent podcast that putting over Fandango at mania was a mistake

Even Jericho admitted on his recent podcast that putting over Fandango at mania was a mistake If they were going to carry on his momentum after that big win, it would of been great for Fandango.

I agree guys like Stardust, Mizdow and Tyler are all so great. But I also think Fandango does him gimmick pretty well, maybe not as good as those...but still fairly good.

they've been giving solid in ring performers goofy gimmicks since the 80s...fandango is no different than this generation's repo man. waste? maybe...but it's the wwe. it's what they do.

Fandango was a real one dimensional character. As a wrestler, he never really had a good match either.
I think of him as a "filler" wrestler...like he's just there pretty much

I stopped read all of this when it was stated that Jericho basically is a nobody. That's the biggest joke this all, that Jericho had to put Fandango over. And really, what kind of career did you really expect a ballroom dance turned wrestler to have? Don't get me wrong, I like gimmicks and that's all Fandango ever should be. He shouldn't be winning titles, he should go out there, dance like an idiot, make fun of the crowd, then whoever he fights kicks his ass and be done with it.
Most likely his push ended was because the higher ups didn't want him to be on top. The crowd did it and the "E" did whatever they could to downplay it since they weren't the ones who made it happen.
