Just want to know your thoughts on this subject as all I've seen lately is popular movies now being adapted into tv shows. To me, I'm not liking the sound of this as they're destined to fail because they're always going to be compared to their tv shows, most that don't need follow ups or adapting. Anyway, did a quick google search and found 26 movies that are potentially getting tv adaptations: Bachelor Party Big Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs The Devil's Advocate Ghost Hitch The Illusionist In Good Company In The Heat Of The Night Marley and Me Minority Report Monster In Law The Mortal Instruments Problem Child Real Genius Resident Evil Rush Hour Shutter Island Scream School Of Rock Shooter The Truman Show Twelve Monkeys Uncle Buck Underworld Westworld www.denofgeek.com/tv/movies-being-made-into-tv-shows/32522/updated-26-movies-currently-being-turned-into-tv-shows

Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
The original movie was trash. The TV series is a way of life.
Sometimes it could work.

My coworker told me that Supergirl is getting a TV series. If this is true, the TV show should put the 1984 movie to shame

To be honest, I find TV shows to be far better than movies as a rule. You get more time with the characters, more time for the stories to develop, more time to fall in to the world.

I hear Fargo as a TV Series is great.
But some of those adaptations probably won't work.

I hear Fargo as a TV Series is great. But some of those adaptations probably won't work. that first season is a stand alone story & absolutely great...episode 9 is the best episode of television other than breaking bad, in quite a while...that ending in ep9 is a revelation ** I like movies turned into cartoon shows Ghostbusters to The Real Ghostbusters was fun Ace Ventura and Dumb & Dumber were fun cartoons I'm sure there are others ** I love the movie Constantine but I don't want to watch the show because NBC is so quick to pull the trigger, I don't want to get invested - you can have 2 bad ratings (CBS & ABC too honestly) & you're finished ** In The Heat Of The Night was a good movie, but I actually prefer the tv show

Fargo is really awesome and anyone who said in here they heard it was good needs to get on watching it for themselves! They won't be disappointed (or shouldn't be).. As for movies turning into tv shows there really are not many that I have cared for. The ones already talked about in here that I liked a lot were: Buffy, Fargo, and Bates Motel. I can't think of any other and the list the OP posted of future movies turned into tv shows does not interest me at all..

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The original movie was trash. The TV series is a way of life. Sometimes it could work. That's such a heartbreaking post. PeeWee Herman getting his arm ripped off throughout the movie is worth the price of admission alone.

When Jason Katims is involved, they're usually damn good.
Friday Night Lights and Parenthood are absolutely incredible TV dramas. The latter is the only network drama I still watch, actually. About A Boy isn't half bad, either.
The Fargo adaptation is also fantastic.

Friday Night Lights was an amazing show. I enjoyed the film but the show was way better imo. Obviously Buffy4Life. I think it works pretty well with the animated stuff. Real Ghostbusters was amazing, Beetlejuice, BTTF, Bill & Ted, The Mask, Aladdin, Casper, Police Academy and I'm sure I could go on. Terminator was a pretty damn good imo going back to the live-action stuff.
As for the list, I can see a lot of those working pretty well, particularly Resident Evil and Underworld. I'd love to see RE just straight rebooted into a TV show.
TV shows are the new movies. With stuff like Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, even stuff like Arrow, Constantine and Gotham, you get so much more out of TV. I'm dying to see Preacher get off the ground for AMC and Starz is seemingly committed to making American Gods. So any time a network can turn an amazing property that I love into a TV show in this day and age I'm willing to give it a try. Plus, some stories just need to be told over several hours, versus 2-3. I do think more shows need to look at the Breaking Bad format though in terms of telling the story and then walking away, which is why stuff like True Detective and the first season of American Horror Story worked so well imo.

A minority report tv show sounds like it could be fun.

It'd be nice to see a slow burn as to why the killer of the season is compelled to do so as opposed to trying to wrap it all up in a two hour movie. But, at the same time you risk the surprise of the reveal if you're focused on that aspect. Also I always thought A History of Violence and Frailty would make for some fun television.
