So, the Sox plan to get both Hanley and Pablo?
Okay, Yankees, time to go and get Max Scherzer.

Hmmmmm, Han-Ram. Would the Sox put Boegarts back at third then? Where does that put Middlebrooks?

Why do the Red Sox need Panda and Hanley? I would think that locks them into some kind of DH/3B platoon between the two of them I guess. Neither one of them can play defense. Panda's range is horrible and Hanley's just a bat. $195m for the pair seems extremely unnecessary.

Bogaerts stays at SS, Hanley to LF, Fatso at 3B. Middlebrooks can go himself I like Hanley, iffy on Panda. Love that there needs to be at least 9 other moves

Red Sox are loaded at offense but still need 2 SPs
C-Christian Vasquez 1B-Mike Napoli, Allen Craig 2B-Dustin Pedroia, Mookie Betts SS-Hanley Ramirez, Xander Bogearts 3B-Pablo Sandoval, Will Middlebrooks LF-Yoenis Cespedes CF-Rusney Castillo, Jackie Bradley Jr RF-Shane Victorino DH-David Ortiz

Hanley and Sandoval will probably have two nice seasons with Boston but I could see the next three seasons suffer from a steep decline.
Also, I could totally see those guys being run out of town.

Goddamn Red Sox. They just haaaad to blow their wad. I was never fond of that style of management and it seems like lately the big winter money spenders strikeout. It worked for the Yanks in '09 but other than that it's been the clubs making small moves and that invest in their farm having success. Granted the Sox invest in their farm, they're savvy, but these moves just strike me as if they're flexing their muscles just because they have them and not because they need to. Whatever, hopefully it doesn't work out just like last time they went all out on FA's.
It's also time to retire my Sandoval WS MVP player shirt. It will be cool to sport again someday, but just not for awhile.

They are flexing their muscles because they finished last 2 of the last 3 years. Couldnt do that crap again. Middlebrooks has value as like a 4th piece of a big deal, a bunch of teams think they could fix him. His time in Boston is over.

It's finally happened. The once lovable losers, the fanbase you wanted to just give a big hug to and feel happy that they've finally achieved what they couldn't for 80 some years are now every bit as obnoxious as the Yankee faithful. Congrats. Did 2013 not mean anything? no, finishing last the year before and after is what's driving the passion. How dare they! I don't get it.

The Yankees need to sign:
3B (will probably be Chase Headley) SS (no idea) David Robertson Brandon McCarthy SP (Lester, Scherzer, or Shields)
Other than that, they need to just pray that Teixeira and Beltran are actually healthy and can hit this year, and they need much better years from Ellsbury and McCann.
Just like the Red Sox were not as bad of a team as they played like last year, the Yankees were not as bad as they played either. I think that the Yankees actually have a pretty good roster if they make the acquisitions I listed, but you can sign all the guys you want, but sometimes they just under perform and don't hit. That's what happened to the Yankees last year. Nobody came through in the clutch, but we had the guys we wanted. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Yes the World Series was awesome, but since 2011 when they fell off a cliff they've had 1 good season and 2 1/2 awful ones. Its not accepted in Boston. Hey, you whined about the Red Sox throwing their wad at Sandoval even though that was 10000000000000% false, and the Giants actually offered more but he felt slighted and wanted a new challenge. Sounds like sour grapes bud, and has nothing to do with flexing muscles when you had 26 combined HR's in the OF last year....26 for ALL Red Sox OF's. I dont even wanna see the 3B numbers.

Darn tootin' there's sour grapes. Not sure why he's leaving though, maybe he has sour grapes too, something under the table or just wanted a new scenery? That has little to do with my feeling on teams throwing money around though or the idea that losing is worse than winning. That and the salary structure in baseball altogether. It sucks to see homegrown talent leave, there needs to be bigger incentive for them to stay. Red Sox bitched about that last year when they Yanks snagged Ellsbury, but evidently they wanted to do the "grocery shopping" this year. They shouldn't have to compete in the open market and the market shouldn't be limitless. They should have an edge. If they still want to leave after that - fine. Contracts are ridiculous in baseball, there's no way a guy like Sandoval should be earning what the highest paid NFL and NBA players are getting. It's gonna kill that sport someday.

Hanley and Panda are going to be a waste of money. Panda already is a waste of money and he hasn't even stepped foot on the field yet. He's an average player with AWESOME post season stats. He's actually arguably below average at his position during the regular season. HIs OPS has done nothing but drop since 2011 and don't expect a shift to the AL East to be easy on him. Factor in his defense and the Red Sox are over paying him by roughly, I don't know, 30 million dollars or so. Hanley I love but good luck with him in LF, a position I don't think he's ever played. He's an awesome bat but it will be a miracle if he stays on the field. Hanley is averaging just over a 100 games a season since 2011, and he's not getting any younger.
I would bet lots, and lots, of money that Red Sox fans are going to be pissed about those two in two years time.

Comparing 2014 seasons between two players that play the same position:
Player A: .279/.324/.415 with 16 homers, 111 OPS+ in 638 PA. Complied a 3.0 WAR (Fangraphs version) Player B: .243/.328/.372 with 13 homers, 102 OPS+ in 531 PA. Complied a 4.4 WAR (Fangraphs version)
Any guesses who these two players are?

Jays acquired josh donaldson for infielder Brett Lawrie, righty Kendall Graveman, and shortstop Franklin Barreto are part of the package going back. Prospect Sean Nolin is also in the deal
was not expecting to lose Donaldson.
