Interesting trade for the Jays, but I like it for them. Brett Lawrie sucks and is always hurt. Billy Beane said he was 23...dude will be 25 in a few months. I just giggled at that.
Donaldson is a beast and signed until 2019! Mind you he will get expensive.
Jays gave up a bullpen arm, a 5th starter, a broken down 3B who gets hurt a lot (One who has HUGE upside) and Franklin Barreto who is an 18 year old stud but 5 years away.
Good trade for the Jays, another head scratcher by Beane

Comparing 2014 seasons between two players that play the same position: Player A: .279/.324/.415 with 16 homers, 111 OPS+ in 638 PA. Complied a 3.0 WAR (Fangraphs version) Player B: .243/.328/.372 with 13 homers, 102 OPS+ in 531 PA. Complied a 4.4 WAR (Fangraphs version) Any guesses who these two players are? Player A=Pablo Sandoval Player B=Chase Headley

Yeah I was shocked at how close Sandoval and Headley were in stats. I thought Headley had that one big year then sucked balls. The WAR favors Headley because hes a better 3b, even tho Sandoval isnt bad either.
Trust me I am iffy on the Sandoval deal, he needs to hit like a star for that contract. I think he'll do well, fit well in Boston and all that but I like the Hanley contract and Hanley more.

Pirates acquire Rodriguez. Not bad. Since Harrison has been promoted to 3B starter we need a utility player so, I like it, even if he isn't great or anything.

The money is fine on Cruz, its the years. If he can be a solid DH then it will be fine. He needs to produce very well the first two years of the deal to make it worth it

Yanks is serious pursuit of Andrew Miller. Would love for NYY to sign him, would love it even more if they could add him and Robertson (probably won't happen)
If it did, though, Yanks would have an insane pen.
Robertson Miller Betances Kelly Warren Wilson Lindgren
That'd be lovely

Andrew Miller is an absolute weapon, but 4 years for a reliever is just asking for problems.

I think any big market team can absorb that kinda hit because, at the end of the day, the AAV won't murder their payroll (especially NYY)

Its risky, I mean look at Papelbon who was GOOD but no one wants him cuz hes expensive.

Heyman said it best yesterday, "never seen player meet expectations & have as little trade value as papelbon."

That's ridiculous. That doesn't look like a $7m a year difference to me haha. Although again, it's that playoff factor with Panda. If he makes it to October you see 100 point bounces in both OBP and SLG. It's still a small sample size, so you'd think he would come back down to earth if he continues to get deep postseason runs but I think he's over valued because of those October stats. I look for him to have a negative UZR by the end of the next two years, and then he'll be a DH for the rest of his career.

Hell, I wanted Robertson to take over as closer over Soriano a few years back.

Well you have no idea how much Headley signs for, if he gets 13-16 a year then the difference isnt as much. The WAR is a stat I dont really use because Headley is an A+ fielder, and Sandoval, not bad, but a B- so its skews it to Headley. Obviously when you are paying 18+ you want more than 16 homers a year and a higher OBP regardless.

According to "un-named sources", the Yankees have made a "blow the competition away" type offer to Jon Lester.
Apparently the Yankees have decided that they would prefer to over-pay for Lester, rather than sign somebody like Scherzer or Shields, which would recquire the Yankees to lose a compensatory Draft Pick.
It' up to Lester where he wants to go, but based on reports, the Yankees have made the largest offer by miles, in terms of length and dollar amount.

Supposedly Headley has a 16 mil offer on the table, I'd rather Sandoval at 17-18 than Headley at 16

Torii Hunter goes to the Twins, it'll be cool to see him back as a Twin even if he's back against the Tigers in the AL Central. Also, Blue Jays sign Dirks off waivers from the Tigers, now waive him, and sign a guy the Tigers DFAed, Carrera. I find that funny.
