Hahaha. Agreed on one point, disagreed on another. College definitely isn't a waste of time if you play it to your advantage, but unless you compliment that degree in graphic design with something relevant to the working world, it very well could be. My brother has a bachelors degree in graphic design, and minored in fine arts. He graduated four years ago, is currently unemployed, having left his only post grad job (as a collections monitor) to try his luck in the big apple. Me? I worked my ass off in the work force for ten years after high school, and spent the last two pursuing an associates in accounting at night. I landed a job less than two months after graduating, and when I did, my salary doubled overnight. My insurance is minimal pay in, maximum pay out. I had an emergency surgery this past summer that, if left unattended, could have eventually killed me. If I had it prior to landing this job, it would have ruined me financially. Instead, I went in, had it done, recovered at home (while getting paid), and I didn't pay a dime. To me, all that happening before I'd been in place a year meant that me getting my degree was hardly a waste of time. Like I said, I still think it's a waste of time, especially in this economy. In this economy, it saved me both financially and physically.

However, the arts in GENERAL are a dying breed, and in this economy it's hard to land a steady job in the art field. That's my point.

I changed my major from Anthropology to Information Management and Technology so that I could actually land a job after I graduate. I know a lot of people say money doesn't buy happiness, but I can certainly say that I would've been a bit happier if my family didn't live from paycheck to paycheck just so that my mom could pay rent every month.

I went to school for web design and honestly barely even do it anymore. graduated in may and still am working retail. I job hunt all the time hoping to find something new I could get into without having to go back to school.

Brother, I'm working on a masters for History. Want to talk about things that will get you no where as a money maker? Whore ex-wife had a history degree. Can confirm. Last I knew she was still a restaurant manager. My recommendation is after the history degree, look into getting into teaching. At least you could teach history. And while teachers don't make a ton of money, they get amazing benefits, tons of time off and holidays, and they still get A PENSION FOR RETIREMENT. I can't stress enough how awesome and rare that is. If you're passionate about history, you could at least help teach it to earn a living. As far as others, as someone who chased money in college I can confirm is sucks and is miserable to work doing something you don't care about just for money. I day dream of quitting and going back to retail or anything that isn't what I currently do. That's the plan. I would like to tuck myself away at a small college, get tenure and live in the dying middle class. I'm passionate about it, so hopefully that'll get me far enough. Though I do appreciate being compared to a "whore." Feels nice.

I've learned that you need to hustle to get where you want. Work hard, double time, and get it.

That's been my point too - college IS pointless if you're going to pursue something for which no jobs feasibly exist.

Like some people, I'm not the type to pursue a career where I have no interest, or because "my daddy, and mommy forced me to go to medical school". I'm going to pursue a career in which I enjoy. Hence music, and design. To me, life is not about money.
