I've been collecting for about 7 months and decided I wanted to take a drive to NY for "The Big Event" yesterday. It was my first wrestling convention and I had no idea what to expect, but it ended up bring as awesome as I hoped!
I uploaded a few pics to share with you guys. I hope you enjoy them
The first line I got in was Sting's. He had the longest line and I wanted to be sure to see him. He was a really nice guy and after signing each of my items he asked me if they looked alright and shook my hand. Didn't hustle anyone through the line or anything. He seemed genuinely happy to be there. Here's a picture of him with a total stranger I took while waiting in line.
While I was waiting in line to see Kurt Angle Mick Foley came in shouting that he needed a hug with Kurt.
I had Stinger sign a black baseball bat any my heavyweight championship belt. Here's a close up of the bat.
#2 on my list was Mick Foley. He was changing attires all day so depending where you were in line you could have met Dude Love or Cactus Jack. I'm happy that I got to meet Mankind! Mick was really cool. He told me he was hungry so he asked me to help stall the line and chat with him while he are a protein bar. Noelle was on her way to the event but didn't have a ticket, he was convinced that she would be able to smooth talk her way in though. I couldn't find a MOC E17 in time so I bought an unmatched fury figure. Actually kind of impressed with it. He also signed my heavyweight title belt.
After Mick I jumped in line for Lex Luger since he and Vader were the next 2 people I saw. Lex wasn't looking too great but he was friendly and made a comment about how nice the figure was (and how long it's been since he looked like that). He also signed my belt.
Right next to Lex, with no line at all was Vader. I was surprised until I actually interacted with him. He was very grumpy and clearly didn't want to be there. I handed him the figure and a red paint pen and asked if he'd mind using it. He grabbed it, tossed it aside, and picked up his black faded sharpie. I had to reach across the table to retrieve my paint pen when I left. Anyway, here's the signature I got.
Those are all the figures I had signed. My big haul for the day were the 2 belts I brought to get signed. I had Scott Hall, Kurt Angle, Ken Shamrock, and Shane Douglas sign my IC belt.
Scott Hall agreed to sign it as Razor Ramon. He seemed to be on his game. I've heard stories about him falling off the wagon recently but he was coherent, lively, and seemed happy and sober as could be.
He was with X-Pac but I didn't have anything for him to sign. I wish his elite was out in time for this event. X-Pac and I bumped into each other a few times throughout the day. He was incredibly friendly too!
Kurt Angle had a monster line. He seemed to be in a rush. Could have just been wanting to make sure everyone got their chance to see him. Real firm handshake!
Shane Douglas had no line. I asked him to sign my IC belt as Dean Douglas and he didn't like that one bit. I wasn't trying to offend him, that was just his persona when he held the title. He started shaking my paint pen a ton and sprayed yellow paint all over my belt. Luckily I wiped it all off before it dried.
Random pic of X-Pac
Here's my WHC belt. Yesterday I got it signed by Sting, Luger, Vader, Scott Steiner, Angle, Ron Simmons, JBL, Foley, and Del Rio. Del Rio and Ricardo were really cool. No line for them. I asked when we can expect to see them on tv again and he said they'll be on TNA in early January.
I was trying to have everyone sign the front in red and the back in gold, but Foley was chatting while he signed and used to wrong marker. I can live with that though
Hope you guys enjoy this post. Most of my friends don't care about wrestling so I don't have anyone who really shares this kind of joy with me. I have 2 more signings coming up so i should have more pics soon!
Also, I owe my girlfriend a debt if gratitude. She helped me haul figures and belts all around the convention yesterday
