the thread about the 2002 Summerslam ,and the fact we're not only near Thanksgiving, but this is the weekend of the Series', got me thinking:
what would you guy's rank as the top Survivor Series' events ever? an explanation of your choices is appreciated, but not necessary. my list:
1) Survivor Series 1991 - love this one. for an 80's/90's junkie like me, it's pure nirvana! plus tons of stuff and angles actually happen at this one, besides the standard Survivor-style matches:
- Flair's televised wrestling debut. the match he was in was a hell of a cracker, too.
-the shadow of the looming Macho man vs Jake roberts feud
-The Undertaker vs Hogan for the WWF Title. and Taker wins, too!
-a really big planted seed in the breakup of the Rockers, and the heel turn of Shawn Michaels
- a very subtle seed planted early for the eventual face turn of the Natural Disasters
2) Survivor Series 1998 - even though they forego the traditional format, the Deadly Games tournament was awesome, full of surprises, and truly made the whole event feel like a matter of survival. plus TWO of the great swerves of all time happen here ( Shane McMahon and The Rock).
3) Survivor Series 2002 - also a great event, outside the opening match (which was pretty good itself, just kinda weird with the mishmash of people). the Heyman swerve was gold, and the first ever EC match was frigging great!
4) Survivor Series 1987 - the original, considered innovative for it's time (even though it really wasn't). the WWF had never tried something like this before. also helped fuel the red-hot Savage vs Honky and Hogan vs Andre feuds even more. and Hogan lost! for the first time, like, ever,at a WWF event!!
5) Survivor Series 1996 - one of my favorites. the mix of both traditional Survivor matches with singles matches highlighting the biggest feuds at the time was golden. the Garden crowd gave it a palpable sense of specialness, even through the TV set. and it was great seeing the early seeds planted for the Attitude Era,with a good number of fans rejecting the pure babyfaces (Bret,Shawn) for their more heelish or downright nasty opponents (Austin,Sid).

Survivor Series 2002 - Amazing all around card. The Elimination Chambe, opener, Tag Titles are all great and it features one of my favorite Divas matches ever Survivor Series 1996 - Austin/Hart is an all-time favorite. The Furnas and LaPhon opener is surprisingly great. Undertaker/Mankind was one of the first really good Taker matches and the debut of The Rock. Plus, a hot crowd that turned completely on HBK. Survivor Series 1989 - A fun and underrated show. Features a rare Macho Man/Bret Hart interaction. Nothing amazing on the show but everything is good Survivor Series 1987 - The original. Good show, pretty fun. Survivor Series 1998 - Not the greatest show from a wrestling standpoint but a ton of story here and was perfect for it's time. Huge swerve and non-stop matches made this a blast.

2002 - Great PPV, one of my top 15 ever. Didn't see Heyman turning on Lesnar coming & the first Elimination Chamber is just epic.
2003 - Michaels performance in the Survivor Series match is amazing. Plus Vince's blade job was straight out of Flair's play book.
2001 - now I'm older I realise the Invasion angle was a load of crap, but I still enjoy this PPV, plus that video package for the main event is awesome stuff.
1991 - it was the first Survivor Series PPV I saw, that snake thing with Savage/Roberts & Undertaker scared the crap out of me.
1999 - Angle's debut, the Austin angle (even if the reveal was disappointing, I thought it was Billy Gunn. If you look at his face after his match he looks really weird), Jericho vs Chyna isn't terrible, the Elimination matches aren't boring & the main event is entertaining.

That, along with SummerSlam '91 and Royal Rumble '92 are the three shows I'd always rent from my local video store. I rented them so much that the owner just made me copies of each.

Snap man......mr Dalton did the same for me with WM5, Summerslam 89 & SSeries 89!!! I LOVE the year 1989 in WWF.

1) 1987: I actually just watched this PPV last week, and I make it a tradition to watch this PPV every November. I thought it was one of the best Survivor Series PPV events ever, and that's not bad for it being the first ever one created. Seeing Savage, Steamboat, Roberts, Beefcake and Duggan on a team is a huge draw, and THAT was the opening match! Team Hogan vs. Team Andre was incredible, and the pop Hogan got for leg dropping Reed and pinning him for the first elimination was huge! We will never see fans cheer like that again at an elimination. And the Women's elimination match was entertaining as well, with the Jumping Bomb Angels doing their thing. And the 10 team elimination match was great as well, with the unlike teams of the Killer Bees and The Young Stallions getting the win at the end.
2) 1990: I loved this event back in the day, and watched it so many times that I could remember every single thing that happened and when it happened. And every team of 4 was pretty stacked too. The Match of Elimination at the end where Hogan and Warrior dominated, was awesome for any wrestling fan at that time.
3) 1993: I liked this event a lot, and even looking back I have a sentimental feeling still towards it. The opening elimination with Team Razor vs. Team IRS was a good way to start the event. The Harts vs. HBK and his 'Knights' was great. We even had a Smoky Mountain Tag Title match on the card. And Team Luger vs. Team Yoko was great too, but again, they ruined an opportunity to have Lex pin Yoko even in a non title situation.
4) 1998: This event reminded me greatly of Wrestlemania IV, and you would swear they copied the blue prints for it. But it was an awesome PPV event, and it was fun trying to pick who was going to win the Title. I figured it would come down to Austin vs. Rock in the finals, but with the Foley win over Austin, we got to see the beginning of the Rock vs. Mankind feud that would take over the next few months.
5) 2002: The first few months of 2002 were like seeing the remains of the Invasion angle of 2001 still smolder, and try to stay ignited, but once April 2002 came along, everything changed. And by November, the WWE was onto something great. Survivor Series that year was amazing, with so many great matches like a Cruiser Weight Title match, WWE Title match, WWE Tag Title match, World Title Match, plus Scott Steiner coming out and being what he does best... Scott Steiner.
A lot of other Survivor Series events were great too, but those 5 definitely stick out for me the most.

Nope. Its absolutely excellent on every conceivable level. 1st Elimination chamber? STILL the best by a country mile. Best spots and best action. HBK winning was 100% what the crowd wanted as the unioversal chants of 1....2....3 in MSG told us. Steiner's debut to an ecstatic MSG was just spine tingling at the time. Even knowing what they did with him doesn't diminish it for me. Tara vs Trish might be the best damn Womens title match EVER. And that isn't hyperbole. The Tag title match was brilliance.......it was end to end stuff. The opening table match was great.....and it contains one of THE best feelgood moments ever in wrestling. The Dudleys reuniting in front of a fully pumped for it MSG.

1) 1998. THE perfect attitude era PPV, and the only one where the formula really translated well from Raw to PPV. Perfect storytelling.
I literally can't even think of a number two to put in. I'll go with 1991, as it was the first time I ever cried watching wrestling. Undertaker and Flair killed Hulkamania!
All in all, I don't think Survivor Series has really been a great event.

Where as I do agree that the first Elimination Chamber is great, I still think the 2005 one with Benoit, Orton, Jericho, Batista, Edge, and Triple H with HBK as the referee can rival the first one. Over all, I think those two are the greatest chamber matches ever!

1990: I loved the concept of the survivors match. Undertaker debuts. Plus, The Gobbelty Gooker!!! 1987/1988/1989: I'm a total sucker for elimination style matches and these events were just loaded with stars and all elimination matches. 2002: First Elimination Chamber. And also some crazy pants from The Undertaker. 1997: This is more for nostalgia than anything. The event itself wasn't super great, but I literally sat with my mouth hanging open after it was over because I just couldn't believe what happened in the main event. 2001: I actually really liked the invasion storyline. Sure, it could have been better, but for what it was, it was pretty fun. 1998 almost took this spot. I love tournaments and it was a stellar event, but I've never been a fan of The Rock, so the ending of the tournament still chaps my craw a bit. LOL.
