How is Next Man's Sweater trolling? Are you guys serious right now? Are you that in denial about TNA's status that you think he's personally attacking you guys? TNA was on the verge of going out of business before a small tv network swooped in to keep them alive for now. That's just the facts. Jakks CLEARLY has been putting a minimal effort into the line even when they had the exposure of Spike TV. The fact that they're now getting less exposure doesn't exactly bode well for the idea that Jakks would COMPLETELY re-work their strategy with the line by developing new molds, new lines, whatever. They have made it pretty obvious they are just waiting out the contract. I wish they'd do something cool with it, too, but it ain't happening.

TNA was on the verge of going out of business before a small tv network swooped in to keep them alive for now. That's just the facts. At least someone gets it. Bingo. I'd be first in line to buy TNA figures that were better than what Jakks have been doing, but the fact of the matter is that if the TNA license wasn't worth creating new molds for in 2010 with Hulk Hogan and Sting, it certainly isn't worth it in 2015 when the promotion's barely breathing. It is weird if people think that stating that is some kind of personal attack on them. Of all the things I've ever said that have upset anyone, I think this is the most baffling.

the fact that we haven't also got, for example, a SMB1 style 6" collector Mario, or an Ocarina Of Time 6" collector Link shows me Jakks doesn't have a clue what they're doing in regard to the collector market. Based on the in-game sprite? I'd figure it'd be too blocky/undetailed but it'd be cool to see someone try. Or do you mean like the other Mario figures with proper facial detail but in the brown/red from the game? Are the Mario mini-world playsets/figures by Jakks? I hadn't heard of them coming and saw some in a supermarket a few weeks ago, they looked pretty cool.

Or do you mean like the other Mario figures with proper facial detail but in the brown/red from the game? Well it's upto interpretation really. I wasn't thinking of a blocky version or a repaint, although some people might like figures in those styles. Personally what I had in mind was like if you took the Figuarts mario, changed the proportions slightly to look closer to the SMB1 sprite shapes, then simplified down the details quite a lot (e.g. just dots for eyes) and of course make the overalls red and the undershirt blue, following the original SMB1 color scheme (opposite to the blue overalls and red undershirt which is more commonly used now). The simplified design would look similar to the Paper Mario look I guess, only slightly more simplified. I'm imagining something which looks like a NES SMB1 sprite, but non-blocky and in 3D of course. I'd be trying to create something which would be instantly recogniseable as being specifically from SMB1 and not just a generic look. If I was in charge I would make several variants too. Sculpt variants would be a small mario, a large mario, and a fire mario. And paint variants would be NES-accurate colors and more vibrant colors (more like the SNES/All-stars version of SMB1). Plus Luigi colored repaints could follow if the Marios sold well enough. Don't get me wrong, the Figuarts Mario is absolutely ace, and the Jakks one isn't too bad either, but both of them are more of a generic/modern looking Mario, and I think there's plenty of collectors and fans who would like a few more Mario figures (either from Figurarts or Jakks) which are accurate to how he looked in EACH of the old games, instead of just one generic figure. I just think Jakks isn't making the most of the collector demand here.

They are in fact by Jakks and they actually just unveiled a load of new Nintendo stuff that looks awesome. They're making a 4" Star Fox figure this year. Never thought I'd see the day. My point was more about wanting figures based on specific game designs, more than different versions of generic mario (fire, racoon etc)

Maybe we will finally get those American Gladiator figures. I've been waiting 25 yrs for a Zap figure Only in Canada! Sky, Zap, Ice (not shown), female contenders (not shown). I think they were sold only in Canada, some other sets might have been under the Irwin Toys name. I loved the female Gladiators. It's about time for another reboot.

I'd love to see them bring back the S.L.U.G. Zombie line back as well as more El Chavo mini figures.

Why pick a side? I enjoy both Mattel and JAKKS figures. I think JAKKS made some of the best WWE figures ever and Mattel is doing the same right now. Both have their faults but I don't see the need to bash the other to justify your liking of the other.

this means nothing to me
nothing at all
why Jakks never bothered to actually put effort in the TNA line baffles me. with all the talent they had, we got 15 jeff hardy's...3x magnus....its just weird. a few sets a year is fine considering the volume they do...but why not make those sets GOOD

That's exactly how I feel bout Mattel's lol I am not here to lie. at first, yes hated them(mattel). but I gave them a chance, when they debuted. and love them, yes sometimes I question the facial expressions. but its all gravy. like the other poster said, both companies have faults. no one is perfect.

why Jakks never bothered to actually put effort in the TNA line baffles me. with all the talent they had, we got 15 jeff hardy's...3x magnus....its just weird. a few sets a year is fine considering the volume they do...but why not make those sets GOOD Depends what you mean by "GOOD" -- if it means spending tons of extra money producing the figures, then the why not is simple: The TNA brand wasn't worth breaking the formula for when the WWE brand survived on bad figures for years. Remember their strategy when moving to a smaller/weaker brand probably involved retaining the market from their WWE days (ie people who wanted to add to their collection rather than start a new Mattel one) so making better figures was riskier than sticking with a style they'd already been doing since about 2006. People might not have heard of AJ Styles, but if he fits with their John Cenas and Batistas they're more likely to give him a shot. As to why the lineups aren't more varied, that's just as simple: New headsculpts cost money, and Jeff Hardy's more marketable than almost anyone else in wrestling. At this stage, they're probably just struggling to use guys who they have existing headsculpts for that still look mostly the same as they do on TV. I'm sure they'd love to put out an updated Robert Roode but the cost/reward of sculpting a new head for him vs just putting out another Magnus or repainting Anderson's hair makes the lineup decisions easy.
