With all references on WWE television towards CM Punk rumored to be strictly prohibited, do you think CM Punk's 434-day title reign may be in jeopardy (not if WWE would completely removes it from history)? If so, who do you think may top it? I heard about rumors of WWE planning to make someone the new longest-reigning champion of the modern era.
Sadly, I feel it may be Roman Reigns or Cena. I would like to see Dean Ambrose or Dolph Ziggler holding the title for a long period, but I would mainly like to see Seth Rollins as a 434+ day world champion because it could further prove his top heel status in the company and establish him as one of the next faces of WWE.

Whether they do or not, I doubt the reign will be better than CM Punk's. Consistently great matches, awesome promos, and the change from face to heel. That range is just something you don't see easily and I doubt will be duplicated.

Hopefully the record stands. I don't want to see any more extremely lengthy title reigns, especially now that there's only one main title.

Most people don't even remember his title reign so I doubt they'll worry much about it. It's not like it's the longest reign anyway.

If there is someone in the future who comes along and is the right person to hold the strap longer than Punk, then so be it. That being said I don't think anyone right now could last even an entire year as champion and not have it shoved completely down our throats.
Only person I would even mention would be Rollins. It would have to be a heel to hold the title that long, any face would get turned on in a heartbeat. Rollins could have a JBL-esque title run and continue barely escaping PPV's with the title (as a great heel should - JBL 04, Edge 06, Jericho 01/02)
Honestly that is the only way I could see someone lasting a year as the brands only world champion.
I just don't want WWE to force someone like Reigns/Cena upon us for a year on top just to erase Punks record for spite. Sort of how they pushed Orton into the World Title way too quick just so they could get rid of Brocks youngest champion record after he left abruptly.

I hope no one has a reign for that long and if they did it should be to put someone younger over.

This sounds like a job for SuperCena!

Not happening, one Reigns probably can't handle the pressure of being champ that long seeing as he's only been around for like 2 years, and he just doesn't have the skills to do it.

Wasn't the biggest fan of the year long reign, it went to sh after he turned heel in my opinion. I also think he should have held the title from the Money in the Bank pay per view all the way to Royal Rumble 2013. Lol dude you just contradicted yourself.

Didn't Punks reign get poor buys or something? If thats the case I think they'd be worried about the same thing happening especially with things being so bad at the moment.

I get what you're saying about having a "company guy" hold the record, but I don't think they'd just do it for the sake of doing it. The right person would have to come along at the right time.

I hope not. It was a fairly terrible run a lot of the time. Remember, Punk's long reign was only possible because of the part-timers (Rock, Brock, HHH, Taker etc) and Cena. Those guys carrying shows in the money matches meant there wasn't as much pressure on the champion. Without those big-time matches, PPVs would have had to be sold on title changes and new, fresh champs. And hell, the option was there at the time to put the world title on Cena to carry buys if needed. They don't have that anymore.
A year or two from now, WWE doesn't have a big roster of part-time megastars. That means the full time guys need to be fighting over the belt to main event Mania and SummerSlam.

The title of the thread made me initially believe that someone bumped a two year old post.

It'll stand.
It certainly won't be erased from history either...unless he...well..you know...Benoits his life up.

I don't know about breaking Punk's reign, but I think Rollins is really becoming the man. He's already basically been the heel champ for a quite a while just with a briefcase instead of a belt, how long has that been going on? I'm a jaded lapsed fan who quit watching for years and I think Rollins is becoming just as exciting to watch as Punk or Bryan were, maybe more.
Dude managed to deliver the phrase "Vigilante Sting" without losing it twice now! That's commitment to kayfabe right there.

No, but then again I never thought I'd see a match with sixteen German Suplexes in it.

I doubt it to be honest. I doubt this reign of Punks is even remembered that well by Vince or the majority of fans....without constant references it may as well not have happened.
