HUGE thanks to ARUN for posting about that Bret Hart signing! I literally woke up, saw the post, found some items to get signed, then went to the signing lol. Bret does come here pretty often, but I noticed that he was signing for March of Dimes. From past experiences, I knew that a small donation would get me a bunch of autographs from Bret, so I went. We left to get to the Direct Energy Center at around 10:50 in the morning. What would normally be a 15 minute drive turned into a 45 minute drive because part Lakeshore was closed due to a broken water main. I was worried I'd miss the signing. By the time I got there, it was 11:40. I paid the $16 admission then went inside to look for the March of Dimes booth. I found the booth and it was already too late. Bret was about to leave, but was doing an interview with the Fight Network first.
I talked to the March of Dimes people and they told me to go to the stage and after his speech, he'll sign. That's what I did. I went to the stage (took forever to find!) and listened to his speech. He mainly talked about his wrestling career and his stroke. It was really interesting to hear what he had to say.
After his speech, people started going up stage to get pictures with Bret. There was a problem because the stage was needed for the next presenter, so they moved Bret to the left of the stage and he signed/took pictures there. No one had to make donations when he signed, he pretty much just took pics and signed autographs for free. He had a handler there, who was nice and was willing to help everyone. However, it was clear that Bret needed to leave (I overheard the handler say that Bret needs to catch a flight), but Bret and his handler made sure everyone left happy. I brought along 5 items. Considering the circumstances, and the line, I figured I'd get my priority items signed first, then wait around until the line dies down, then line up again. I just wanted to make sure that everyone was able to meet Bret before asking for more autographs. During this first encounter with Bret, I got a picture with him, and these signed:
IC Belt
Encyclopedia in both of his spots
Like I said, after I got those items signed, I waited around until the line died down. It quickly did, so I joined the line again. Bret, nor his handler, didn't mind. I then got three more autographs:
DVD
Magazines
Like my past meetings with Bret (this is now my fourth time meeting him), he was pretty quiet, but greeted people and asked how they were. I was able to get 6 autographs and a photo-op with Bret for only $16, which was the price of admission!
Thanks for looking and thanks again to arun!
