so one of my auctions ended last night on eBay. I just got a message today from the winning bidder saying. "I did not want this item. I sent u a message yesterday. would appreciate it if u relisted this". so I check my messages on eBay from yesterday & NOTHING. so whats the deal? did this guy just screw me over? will I have to pay ebay any fees since technically the auction ended? this has never had this happen to me before, so I was just curious as to how to handle this. is this guy in the wrong? or does this happen often? any info would be helpful. thanks guys!

that dude, open a case against his ass in the resolution center. At least he'll get an unpaid item strike to his account.

Actually if it was a best offer and you didn't have a automatic minimum amount set, you can retract your best offer within an hour if you want to retract your best offer

At least he'll get an unpaid item strike to his account. that's my initial reaction cause im pretty upset that he outbid 3 other people to win then said today that he "forgot that it was open". I just wasn't sure if it was common to let people slide or not

But I was making a point in another possible scenario. What was the item the person won?

You're not obligated to cancel their bids or let them off easy because they all of a sudden didnt want them item. eBay specifically tells you you're obligated to pay whatever you bid on said item if you end up winning within the auction time period. No ifs, ands, or buts. Make them pay for the item and if not threaten to file a claim against them. It may make you seem "douchey" to them but those are the policies of the website. At best they could have retracted their bid. Its 100% their fault regardless if they sent a message or not.

Stuff like that is why I mostly don't bother selling anything on ebay anymore. It's just too much hassle, and the buyers have all the power and can easily screw you. It's not worth it.

well I'm filing a report. he is refusing to pay. he keep mentioning that he "was unaware it was still open". this lack of responsibility in people really irks me. do I file this in the resolution center or do I need to do something else on eBay to report it?

I think some people enjoy outbidding pretty people and winning the auctions. It's almost as if they do it for fun, probably because they've got nothing better to do.

better than what I'm dealing with right now. sold a damaged CZW DVD. Had a scratch that effected play, so I sold it REALLY cheap, $5 shipped opening bid. Guy won it, then said he didn't know it was damaged. The title was CZW Heat 2014 DAMAGED DVD then other keywords. The description detailed the damage. And the picture had a piece of paper that said DAMAGED DVD along with the disc. Then when he "learns" it's damaged, he decides he doesn't want it. 2 weeks after winning it. I had already opened an unpaid item case, so I just closed it and let him have the strike on him, then blocked him from bidding on any future auctions.
Open the case, get your fees back, and let these children get strikes. Help filter the bottom feeders from eBay

You should be able to offer a second chance offer to the bidders who were outbid. . that'd be pretty cool. can u explain how I can do that please? On your "Selling" page, under "selling reminders," there should be a number of messages. For me, the third one down with a No. 2 in kind of a starburst say that I have x amount of items available for second chance offers. You click there, and you should be able to see your item if it got bid up. Hope that helps.

I've paused selling stuff for a long time now cause eBay has put so much power into the hands of buyers and I hate they way PayPal operates on the selling side of things.

When he bid he essentially signed a binding contract to buy the item of the bid is successful. So he either pays go or take him through the resolution process and let him receive a deserved punishment. He's trying to screw you over.
