Glad this thread is back. I was wondering if anyone else feels these beats of today (post 2k5) are missing something? What is it exactly? Maybe I am just too old, but I just cannot get into 99% of current rap, as I can't stand the beats, or heavy focus on bass. I can't put my finger on it, but the closest I can state is that they are missing heart and not telling a story anymore. G-funk spoke to you by the instrumentals. Horrorcore, the same. Southern/midwest rap had their own flavor. Rappers made the lyrics fit the beat. I know little of the Miami bass sound of the 90s....is this an extrapolation with the added east coast vocal style (flow + vocal tone)? I am not trying to belittle anything, I am glad people like it, but I am just trying to understand why I don't anymore. Much respect.

VPV Southern rappers brought something unique to the table and have inspired most of todays rappers if not all of them, every current mainstream rapper has taken from or is inspired by the old school southern rappers like Triple 6, Project Pat, Juicy J, Scarface, Geto boys whether it be their flow or the production, they all started it first.

Personally devastated with the death of lil peep. don't think anyone on here is even aware of him. I am one of the few. I never got deep into Peep's music (The Brightside is a great song and I like most of that album), but even in my passing interest, was very sad to see him pass. Young people dying always bothers me, and Peep had so much ahead of him and seemed to mean so much to his fans. It was obvious he had severe depression and used the drugs to cope. His manager even said he expected to see this happen for the last year.. which just makes it so much worse. If you are close to someone with depression, do something, help them, especially if they're using potentially fatal narcotics to cope. It's made all the worse that this could have been avoided

Unpopular opinion: I actually liked the couple Cardi B songs I've heard.

I don't know if anyone has heard of them but Brockhampton has put out two albums recently and they are both amazing.
Also, I knew know who Lil Peep was but never really got into his music. Sucks that he passed, though.
