Back in the day before spoilers, when surprise returns remained surprises, title changes had a greater potential to shock and amaze. You know, the good stuff. Wrestling lost a lot of lustre and excitement (in my opinion) once we had so much insider information right at our fingertips. It's a love/hate thing for me for sure...I miss those days but can't resist reading all the "stuff" out there.

I see your point about Spoilers and you're right

Of course it was more fun before the internet.
You never had anything ruined.
Now if you miss a PPV or a Raw, and you want to see it later, you have to avoid the internet in general in fear of finding out something.
Though it does have its advantages, like if a title change happens and you read about it, or someone returns and you wanna see it, then you know to watch the show.

Yes.
And we were all just fans, not armchair bookers, though there is nothing wrong with that.

Of course it was. Not knowing the results beforehand, not being conditioned to hate everyone who is being "pushed" and get angry about who is being "buried" and all that stuff. Although if there was no Internet, I couldn't just go watch something on Youtube when the latest boring rematch starts on Raw.

Yes it was. I was in Walmart looking at the wrestling figures when a fan saw me and started talking out of the blue how HHH holds down talent. I looked at him as if he were crazy. I told him not to believe everything you read. If you are not behind the curtain, it is almost all hearsay. Nothing I said dented his little internet knowledge.

Here's how I view it: nobody is forcing you to read the spoilers.
If you personally can't resist reading the dirtsheets, or checking out spoilers, or whatever - that's your problem, not the internet's. You can avoid all that stuff easily enough if you want to.

This is very true, but the question wasn't is it the internet's fault, just was it more fun before? And if you look at comments in the Raw thread every Monday night, that answer for everyone (at least everyone who posts in that thread, and pretty much everyone who posts in the WWE section) is yes. Unless everyone used to hate it from the very first time they watched it, but if they did that, I can't imagine they'd have stuck with it or ever bothered looking up wrestling on the Internet in the first place.

the answer is yes and no.
Obviously spoilers and message boards have ruined wrestling. However it doesnt change the hate, too much, there was always things to dislike in wrestling.
back in the day people didnt know wrestling was scripted and they defaced Sgt Slaughter's house, sent him death threats and basically would have stoned him if they could....because he was an American turncoat.
The internet also allows us to view anything and re-live our favorite & most liked wrestling moments, so in essence you can always keep your interest & excitement with the memories of the past.
There's good and bad to it really. I used to call the local paper news line for wrestling rumors even before the internet exploded...and if you really think about it, the internet existed during the Attitude Era, which was the biggest boom period for wrestling ever. People were getting spoilers and reading rumors and backstage gossip even during THAT time.

It's gotten to a point that sometimes you can't avoid the spoilers, though. Everybody and their mom is on Twitter and the crap spreads like wildfire. I'm a causal fan of today's product but go out of my way to avoid spoilers. This past October I went to see RAW in Brooklyn. While we're in line waiting to get in some guy in front of me says to his pal, "Yeah, Rock's coming back tonight. Read it online." The ? Thanks for accidentally ruining an awesome moment for me dude.

Well, the question has a very obvious answer in the first place - yeah, it probably was. Just like it was more fun when it was still real to you, dammit. But if you found it to be more fun without the internet, you could very well still have that - it just takes a little effort.

Its a different fun. Attitude RA was about craziness and violence. Other eras were kayfabed easier and it had a different draw.
Now we can all come together complain about this and that, and Daniel Bryans can win world titles!

Without a doubt. Wrestling was far more fun when the majority of fans didn't have access to the internet. Of course, before the internet you didn't have insider information to read as well as spoilers to read. These days, you have fans on social media spoiling it for their followers, people acting like their a bunch of ****ing experts, and hashtag this, hashtag that.
When I was watching the RAW's from 1994 on the network, I was like damn. I would love to go back to this time period. Like most, I had to get my information from the Apter mags. Even if some of that information was dated it was something. I remember there used to be a public access wrestling show that only aired in Manhattan, NY and from time to time, they would report very little insider information.
Ahhh, those were the days.

The first wrestling match I ever saw was a Killer Bees match on either Challenge or Superstars after Saturday morning cartoons, back when wrestling was real.
I think I like it just as much now but sometimes I miss thinking Undertaker really was a zombie and Papa Shango was a real voodoo guy.

Yes. I remember enjoying WrestleMania 29 season because I promised myself that starting at Royal Rumble 2013, that I wouldn't read a single piece of news on a dirtsheet site until after WrestleMania 29.
