1. GBH to win BP. 2. Streep. 3. Moore to win BA. I'm just being a grumpy jerk though I definitely think Julianne Moore should win Best Actress. I loved her. I would be okay with Rosamund Pike winning (though I thought Affleck was the standout performer in Gone Girl). Grand Budapest Hotel was, to me, the usual boring hipster fare from Wes Anderson, so I agree there. And yeah. Meryl ing Streep just must be nominated every year, it seems. I really enjoyed GBH. It was a totally fun romp! And surprisingly violent for a Wes Anderson film. But I will agree that most of his films tend to lean towards hipster on the scale. I feel that Streep has some dirt on some of the voters, because she's nominated for just about anything.

Interstellar got completely gipped Sadly, I'm not surprised. It was incredibly polarizing to begin with (understandably so.) Not to mention, we all know how the academy seems to feel about Christopher Nolan. Why's this though? You are totally right about the film being polarizing but I can't understand why is as black and white with this movie than any others released recently. It should win best score because the music in that movie was just something out of this world (!)

All I know is that I hate going to the movies this time of year. These "good" movies are almost always a bore to me. Only nominated film I watched last year was Wolf of Wall Street, and I didn't even really like that very much even. Always seems like the movies that I think are worthy of these awards are viewed as the ones that get snubbed, this year as well. Lego Movie and Gone Girl especially this year. I really hope that Rosamund Pike wins her category as Gone Girl was one of two movies that really surprised me with how much I enjoyed them, the other being John Wick.
I was really behind that push to get Winter Soldier nominated, but I guess that was a delusional thought. I guess I'm more of a typical movie goer.

Called it on American Sniper... I have a very strong resentment towards this film. Idk if it's because I no longer think Clint Eastwood is a good director or if it has to do with the controversy surrounding Chris Kyle.. I see a preview for this film and automatically envision a banner that says " YEAH! AMERICA!", followed by fireworks. It was phenomenal.

Called it on American Sniper... The Academy is 76% old white men. Of course Clint Eastwood's movie got nominated. It has zero percent chance of winning, though. Zero. Especially since it's pretty public how terrible a person Chris Kyle really was (despite how this movie is positioned as an unironic Team America sequel). Gone Girl deserved a Best Picture nomination, and I thought Ben Affleck deserved a Best Actor nomination as well. As much attention as Rosamund Pike gets, I thought the subtleties of Affleck's performance were really what made the movie work. And as James Gunn noted earlier today, The LEGO Movie was better than at least 7 of the Best Picture nominees. Edit: And by the way, Meryl Streep. She doesn't belong anywhere near Best Supporting Actress this year. The LEGO Movie was god awful, to me. I'm disappointed as well that Gone Girl didn't get a nom, though. It's all politics. It's all BS. It's all ego stroking. That's what Hollywood is.

It should win best score because the music in that movie was just something out of this world (!) I think it's got a lot to do with the final act. It felt, to me at least, like a lot of people (especially critics) weren't willing to take the leap with Nolan and, in general, aren't particularly interested in the theories and ideas explored in the film. Interstellar looked very much like an Oscar attempt dressed up as a sci-fi flick. It was too intelligent to be mainstream, but the concept was too "Hollywood blockbuster" to be taken seriously. I think it will eventually find its true niche in years to come, as many other films like this have. For the all the "high and mighty" attitude the Academy seems to exhibit, at the end of the day, it seems as though they rarely care to honor truly thought-provoking films. They are, and always have been, much more concerned with Hollywood adaptations of true to life period events. Sure, they throw the bone to the outliers with a nomination, but hardly ever bestow them with much more than that. I should note, for what it's worth, I absolutely loved Interstellar.

I'm surprised that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was nominated. Usually Superhero movies like that don't even get a nomination

just came back from seeing American Sniper and I firmly stand behind my previous statements and could not disagree anymore with others in this thread. Not sure which movie they saw, but I saw a beautifully directed and crafted film from all avenues of filmmaking about a man struggling with deep emotional distress from the bowels of war hell. None of it seemed frivolous to me. I didn't get any overwhelming feeling of patriotism, nor did I feel like I needed to jump out of my seat immediately after the credits to enlist in the Navy Seals.
and Bradley Cooper's performance just blew me away.. I looked into his eyes and believed him.. I believed he was the character he was portraying and it was a marvel..

Looking at this list just reminds me there was not a single movie the entire year that interested me. Bad year for movies IMO.

As if being a Patriot is such a criminal act, these days. It was a fantastically done film. I enjoyed every second of it. I also must say -- I didn't enjoy Gone Girl as much the second go round. Did not hold up well.

I think it's more than an overreach to claim that this is some kind of recruitment material "oooo rah mother er", john wayne jerk fest. Ridiculous.

Delighted that the INCREDIBLY overrated Nolan and the equally overrated TRIPE Interstellar didn't get any important nods. In fact it has made my day.
However.....Gone Girl should have been better represented here....it really should and the fact that the Lego movie didn't get a nod for Animated? that's damn strange......
Would love to see Guardians, Cap & Big Hero 6 pick up awards.

I saw The Imitation Game last weekend. It was boring, and that is coming from someone who still likes Benedict Cumberbatch. This pretty much confirms my views from my earlier post, totally would've rather saw something like Paddington.

My wife made me watch Gone Girl over the weekend....and I'm sorry, it was AWFUL. It just got more and more ridiculous and inconceivable by the minute. I don't want to post any spoilers, but the logic behind what happened is so totally ridiculous, and the ability to actually pull something like that off with all the forensic science and investigation would be less than impossible.
The plot of this movie is something I would expect out of a slapstick comedy where all of the police officers act like they are from the Police Academy movies where the crime is happening behind them and they stand there picking their nose oblivious to everything around them.
The characters on Law & Order SVU would have had Gone Girl solved in 4 minutes. lol

Gone Girl is a completely different experience for those who did not read the book. I understand why you'd feel that way after only seeing the movie.
