it depends on what you are trying to make but basically all you do is stick it to the figs, use your fingers, toothpics, or anything else to sculpt it. when you are done sculpting it heat it, i hear boiling it works and then it gets hard.

Well welcome to the world of Sculpey. The first time I used it, I hated it and gave the stuff to my nephew (he's into arts and stuff). I bought some more and had another go at it and I've actually done some decent jobs. It all depends on what you're sculpting.
For example, if you want to sculpt some hair, put the sculpey on the head and you can either use the toothpick method of puting lines through it or you can get some existing hair from another figure and press it on there. I did a mask for Shane Storm, so I sculpted on the eyes and mouth and hardened it then painted it.
You really don't even have to boil the water. Pop the piece you sculpted on in a coffee mug and I always use hot water then pop it in the microwave for a few minutes. To speed up the process, I put some cold water on it after it's done and then dry it off. I always reinforce my sculpey by putting some superglue over it after it's hardened. I do this to assure my sculpey won't break.
I think that's pretty much all you need to know. Ian and Iknowcool will be able to help you out as well.

Nick summed it up pretty well. I assume you got regular sculpey, which is the white stuff. Super Sculpey is a lot better, but thats ok. There will probably be a requisite "Apoxie is better" post later on.
My best advice is if you are making something like a mask or modding a torso, take your time and really smooth it out with your fingers. You can sand it after it is hardened, but I find that the white stuff breaks kind of easily when being sanded.
