Replacing Money in the Bank with the winning receiving a title match at Summerslam.
The tournament starts on Raw a week or two before with 16 competitors and once the PPV arrives we are down to 8 so the winner will have to go through three men in one night.
My first winner would be Ziggler in a performance very reminiscent of Bret in 93.

Start with a 64 superstar bracket...run it on Raw and Smackdown until it comes down to the last 16 then run those over on Raw exclusively then have the final 8 fight it out on the KOTR PPV. The winner getting a Summerslam or Royal Rumble WWE Championship match as would and should be tradition - I say Royal Rumble because as blasphemic as it sounds i'd peg Survivor Series as replace-able with KOTR and heck could even have them running on alternating years, not that i'm particularly precious about all the no-name events... I think one of the FOUR big PPV show slots is where KOTR belongs.
My winner would be Bray Wyatt. To me Wyatt would be an awesome champion to get, in my head the moment he's given that ball to run for and with could be reminiscent of Mick Foley's championship win, he's very much got a 10% chance of getting the belt without a golden ticket opportunity and with his character he suits being a King rather than a breifcase swinging dork.
And I think future Kings can be Cesaro or Barrett or Rhodes BUT the first for me is Wyatt, he needs that throne.

My ideal King of the Ring tournament would look like this in terms of the 16 superstars being:
Cesaro, Miz, Ziggler, Bad News Barrett, Rhodes, Ambrose, Rusev, Harper, Rowan, Ryback, Show, Reigns, Rollins, Orton, Kane and Sheamus
Round of 16 Matches:
Cesaro vs Ambrose Bad News Barrett vs Rowan Miz vs Rhodes Ziggler vs Kane Rollins vs Sheamus Rusev vs Orton Harper vs Ryback Show vs Reigns
Quarter-Finals
Ambrose vs Bad News Barrett Rhodes vs Ziggler Sheamus vs Rusev (due to Rollins and Orton costing each other the King of the Ring tournament) Harper vs Reigns
Semi-Finals
Ambrose vs Ziggler Rusev vs Reigns
King of the Ring Final
Ziggler vs Reigns= Winner and New King of the Ring Roman Reigns

Eight man tournament, one night, Raw. Maybe run qualifiers on all the TV shows the week prior. Barrett for the win. I prefer it like this. People are always nostalgic for the King of the Ring Pay-Per-View, but looking back, some of those shows absolutely sucked. I'm looking at you 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2000. A Raw episode dedicated to it would be good, but I'd want it to lead to a title shot and push as people have said and not just a way to give a mid-carder a king gimmick.

I would use the King of the Ring to attempt to push a mid-level guy up to the title picture.
...and not use it as a tool to rib a guy and make him wear a darn crown for months.

I heard Daniel Bryan wants to be the face of Smackdown and wants to bring KOTR back as a weekly tournament on Smackdown.
If WWE did that and I was booking it, I'd use it to try to make an underused talent into a star.
I sort of feel like, back when Cesaro first started using the swing and was going to break away from the then heel Colter he was on the verge of generating real face heat. I'd use KOTR to realize that missed opourtunity.
IMO, heels need a personality, but baby faces can get over just by working hard in the ring. Cesaro can be a good worker I think and can get over as a face. Bring back the swing and book him to win KOTR.

I wouldn't be against having KOTR on Raw and then the finals being on pay per view. Good way to build a short feud.

I would like to see it as a PPV but maybe just the semi-finals and finals on the PPV so that they can also book a WWE, Tag, and Divas Title match (potentially the US/IC and or a non tournament singles match as well). I just think seeing someone wrestle three times in one night is a little much. EDIT:People who I'd love winning it would be someone like Ziggler, Cody Rhodes (not Stardust), and Cesaro. I could see Ambrose, Reigns, or Wyatt winning as well but I would rather one of my three win since I think the others would be fine with whatever else WWE gives them to do whereas Dolph, Cody, and Cesaro are not 100% safe from floundering in the mid-card (or lower)..

I'd scrap Money in the Bank and replace it with King of the Ring.
Winner gets a title match at Summerslam.
16 man tournament
While Money in the Bank match in entertaining... I think the winner doesn't deserve as much as he gets. A title shot anywhere, anytime? Makes the championship seem less prestigious. this but I would get rid of the money in the bank ppv and put it back on wrestlemania

No crown/sceptre/cape nonsense, bring back that Stanley Cup-looking trophy that Edge won, engrave every wrestlers name on it who has ever won. Give it that sense of history and prestige. They can carry the thing around all the way to Summer slam where they get a title shot.
Then, you have a 32 man bracket. Starts at the beginning of June and the focus is mostly on the tourney all month. One round per week for 3 weeks on Raw/Smackdown leading up to the ppv. Sell that network! Semis are the first two matches, and the final goes on last no matter what match Cena has.
Cesaro, Barrett, Ziggler, Ambrose, Wyatt, Cody, Sandow... plenty of deserving talent that could use a big win like that to close a ppv. Let them put on a great match with a clean finish.
