Im sure there a thread about this, but this question is applying mostly to preorder/brand new figures. How does pricing work for Ringside Collectibles?
I just saw that the WM31 Elites recently got in stock, but are now backordered again. I thought about preordering, but wanted to avoid paying $30 for Undertaker that I am sure I can get for $20ish eventually retail. However now I see it is backordered and now only $25.
Also, for different Elite sets, that go on preorder, why are some figures as low as like $22.99 or $21.99 but then others are like $30? Like Junkyard Dog right now is $23 but Xpac is a whole $7 more at $30?! I guess its really frustrating to me, because I know prices will fluctuate once Ebay scalpers get them, based on the demand of the figure. I keep trying to justify an order on Ringside, but its hard. To me its only worth it, if I am buying at least 4 figures at a time, so that the minimum $10 or so shipping charge can be spread among 4 figures so the price isn't so high.
I know, Ringside offers a service to get your figures early, and I know they are a business, and this isn't me directly blaming them, because they are only I am guessing following industry standards. But man it would be awesome if more figures could be mass produced earlier without all these random price fluctations and availabilities.

Whatever you dum dums are willing to pay to get things a month early is what they'll price items at.
Basically.

Also Further on this, if Figure price is based on DEMAND, then why is E34 Doink only $24? Doink is the ONLY one that is on BACK ORDER now, while the others are on PRE ORDER. Meaning Doink sold out the quickest, and we all know there will only be 1 figure at most per case. In fact Doink is now the cheapest figure in that set, tied with John Cena. I am guessing the wa it works is, prices are high for preorder, then once the preorders sell out, whatever is on backorder they drop it like $5?

Again, you're paying a premium to have the figures sooner. Hence, Doink being $24; someone can get all of E34 at least a month before they can get Doink.

Also, what incentive does RSC have to pay a premium themselves to get the figures a while before anyone else if they're just going to charge retail on them?

Well, they take the retail price, increase it as much as they possibly can, and hope suckers will buy it for that much.
Now can you dig that, sucka!

Did you see what I said already though referring to Doink? How he is already bought up and sold out first yet he's still the cheapest figure?

I don't think you guys are getting what I am asking, I am NOT asking why figures are MORE THAN RETAIL. I am asking why there are always price CHANGES, specifically once a figure goes from Preorder to Backorder etc. Seems unfair to me that a person, say, buys Undertaker 1 day for $30, then the next day they just drop it down to $25.

RSC first shipment is sent to them via overnight shipping so the first shipment is priced higher to cover that cost. If you order the whole set and use the "WFIGS" discount code it is a little over retail prices. But they charge higher for the figures that will be cherry picked to make up for the pegwarmers they will only be able to sell cheaper than retail during a sale. The second shipments are usually cheaper because they don't overnight them from Mattel.

Again, because people are paying the extra amount to get the figure sooner.
To make it real simple: People who pre-ordered Doink paid a little more so that they could get their figure some time in March. Those who order Doink now are doing so with the understanding that they will not get it until some time in April.
It's the same reason why new sets of figures will initially command higher prices, but then drop off after they've been readily distributed and are on store shelves across the country.

undertaker was 30 at first and u could get him late jan..went down to 25 but now u have to wait till ringside gets them in early march same time as retail...doink was 27.99 at first then sold out. now is 23.99 but will have to wait till april instead of march to get him now.

How many cases are getting overnighted? I always see that on here, "overnighted from China" but I don't see how that can be true. I work at a screen print shop and I do UPS shipments daily. For me to overnight even a small box, ANYWHERE, in the USA, is like $100 minimum, thats PER BOX. Even charging a bit more I dont see how "overnighting from china" can even be cheap enough to only charge a couple extra bucks for the preorder, unless we are talking like 1000 figures being preordered.

Gotcha, for me, once something goes on backorder, I usually don't bother with it, cause from my experience in my city, my retail gets figures before the RSC backorder does.

Cheap because he's on back order and will not be released for a month after the rest of the set. They always lower prices when things get back ordered

Being someone who worked at UPS for 15 before getting injured I used to hear this a lot from customers on my routes. Basically it depends on the account and volume that account produces. I used to hear this all time on my route customers would ask why their small shop/company was paying higher shipping rates than the bigger store/company that was next door to them. And RSC does get quite a bit of figures from Mattel, but Mattel's a world wide company so their (Mattel's) shipping rates are much cheaper than a local print shop. Mattel probaby has UPS/FEDEX/USPS/etc drop mulitiple trailers at their facility's daily so they are going to get a cheaper shipping rate because of the amount of volume they are giving the carrier. Just in that pic that was posted there were 2 Skids loaded. A basic case has 12 figures per case RSC can split that cost between. 3 per case for DM and 8 per case per Elite. Those skids looked to be all basic. I don't think the DM cases were in that pic. But there's a lot of pieces there.

I refused to order figures off RSC at first, but after running back and forth to all the Wal-Marts and K-Marts within 20 miles of me multiple times only to find that they barely ever restock their shelves and they often carry the same exact figures for 6 months +, I've eliminated my frustration, the extra miles on my car, and saved gas money by just ordering off RSC and eBay.

Paying a couple of extra bucks Or waiting a couple extra weeks for a back order from RSC is always better to me than hunting around the stores. Retail can be a nightmare 9 times out of 10 and at least I know I'll get the fig from ringside. Their prices aren't totally outrageous and I'd rather pay a bit more from them as opposed to playing the amazon or ebay game.

To paraphrase Mr. Miyagi...
Walk on right side of road with more expensive figure and less wait, okay.
Walk on left side of road with more wait and less expensive figure, okay.
Walk in middle of road expecting less wait and less expensive figure...squish. Just like grape.

Thanks for the replies guys. If i was a collector of modern roster, I'd be preordering constantly. But since I am a flashbacks only guy, we only on average get 1 figure per series, and to preorder that plus shipping ends up being like 30-40 bucks if i order one fig alone, haha, so ill have to just wait.
