Ok so...I've come to the conclusion that I need to make an announcement regarding this. Now it's not really a secret what thread this announcement was berthed from, but it applies to any and all threads made here in the Sports Hub, and WF as a whole because this is something that's not allowed on WF period.
In sports, everyone has their opinions. Their team is the best no matter what anyone else says. Their players are better than every other player in the league because they play for their team. Their team can do no wrong, no matter what anyone says.
I'm a massive sports fan. I know this better than anyone. I firmly believe my Steelers, Pirates and Penguins are the epitome(s) of pro sports, because they're my team. But you know what? That doesn't make me right. That doesn't make me right in the absolute slightest.
Here's the thing about sports, and this board in particular. Maybe minus the WWE board (for obvious reasons) we have the most strongly opinionated posts here. Why? Because of what I just said. Everyone has their own opinion, especially on sports. Doesn't make them any more right or wrong.
People are entitled to their opinions. And if you disagree with them, then that's YOUR opinion. Opinions are NOT facts, don't act like they are, and don't act like someone else thinks they are. Because they're not. Sorry, not sorry. Talk out sports disagreements, make your point and continue on. That's the purpose of this board. What's NOT the purpose? Attacking people because you disagree with them. That's what causes problems in the end and when trouble is started, and it gives us moderators and our fellow admins such massive migraines. So what to do if you're being trolled.
If someone's trying to troll you:
Step One- If you feel that you are being trolled hit the report to MOD button. This goes for anywhere on the site. Immediately when you see the post, click the button (I BELIEVE it should still be there. Silly v.5 update. If not, press the link to post button and PM the board moderator with the link) and the post will be sent directly to whoever the MOD is. From there we can either delete the post to prevent a potential argument, lock the thread to prevent it from escalating or we can directly send the link to the admins and let them make a judgement on what's to be done.
Step Two- If step one is impossible because of the v.5 forum update (as most of you know I'm almost always mobile so I don't know all of the plugin features Jay and RSC has had added) just click the Report Post button. It'll send the link to the post in question to Jack, TRW, Sucka, Booker, RSC and HR2X. They can make the appropriate judgement call. When in doubt, don't take the risk. Just report it to avoid further headaches for us red or green folk.
Step Three- Do not, and I repeat do NOT, feed the troll. Disagreements happen. Talk 'em out. That's why the hell we're here. But I know y'all are savvy, I don't have to tell you what the hell an Internet troll is and the difference between a disagreement and a troll. If someone is goading you into a fight just ignore them. The thing about trolls is, if you ignore them long enough they have to go elsewhere to get their fix. Or they just get bored and leave. And the further that stuff is from our little peace loving, tree hugging community, the better.
Step Four- Do not allow yourself to become a troll. If someone's egging you on and you respond, in kind, similar to their troll post? Yeah. You're gonna be looked at as a troll now too. And no one likes a troll. I would sooner rather lock the occasional "OBAMA SAID THIS OMG!" spam advertising threads like we got a month ago than deal with a troll. Troll's are nothing but bullies, and no matter if they make a good point in their post...if it's surrounded by finding different ways to crap on different people for whatever reason is their fancy? I can't take it seriously. It's largely ad homenim fallacy garbage. Because you can use mean words, or use big capital letters, your opinion must be right, right? Nope. Maybe it passes in scripted television and books but that's not how it works in real life. The "logic" behind this thought process makes my head hurt just trying to wrap around it.
I hate trolls. I hate "Internet Tough Guys." I hate bullies in general. They bother me. A lot. They bother a LOT of people, which is why I'm having to make this post to begin with. If someone's trolling you, report it and ignore them. They'll get their lashings and either shape up, or ship out. Either or works, right?
No one is going to get reported or warned or deleted or have posts deleted or anything right now for this. Everyone's gonna get a clean slate as far as I am personally concerned, since I'm handling this without making massive headaches for other people. I talked with an admin, who gave me their blessing to post this. But know a zero tolerance trolling and bullying policy is Proboards way of dealing with this, thus making it WF's way of dealing with it, thus making it my way of dealing with this. And note that I'm not an admin. I don't know what they'll be thinking when they see you trolling. I cannot, and will not speak for them on this matter. It's their judgement. But this post is your official warning. If you troll and I see it, someone sends it to me, or an admin sees it, it's going to be in the admins hands as to what's done. They're super chill guys, but they'll do what they think is best for the site. It's their job, so you've been warned.
TL;DR? Don't be an ass, or else the moderators or, more importantly, the admins, may smack you.
