Though I'm sure they were rumored, I don't think Del Rio or Sheamus were completely predictable. Punk in 2011 and Jericho in 2012 were honestly the routes I thought they'd go. For 2011, figured Miz would drop the belt at EC and then defeat Punk for the belt at Mania.

There are always really only 2-3 guys who have a chance of winning each year.
I do remember being genuinely surprised when Sheamus won in 2012 though.

I can't remember everything at the time storyline wise, but you could say Batista's first win wasn't totally predictable. It could have been him or Cena to be fair. Cena 08 was definitely unexpected for sure, the man is genetically scary natural or not.

I find this time of year to be very predictable, starting from the Royal Rumble. So yeah.

I've been saying for years that the stipulations of the Royal Rumble need to be changed. If you just make it a platform for pushing new talent up to, or at lest toward the main event scene, then we could stay get some surprise winners. Each entrant could legitimately have a shot a winning, giving us that feeling we had when we were kids. We could have a real reason to get excited for the match again.
