Watch Kevin Smith pull a Judd Apatow. Making movies and sequels to his former successful movies just so he can jump-start a career for his daughter.

Just heard that Mallrats 2 is going to be turned into a 10-episode mini-series instead, due to some issues with Universal.
Interesting.

Apparently Kevin thought he would just be able to buy back the title from Uni and make the sequel on his own, but they have never in the history of the studio given back a title. So they went about trying to co-finance it...and wound up coming up with the idea of a 10 episode series instead of a movie.

Yeah, his agent was the one who kept reassuring him that he would be able to do it with no problem. I think he needs a better agent.

I've been a fan for many years but this is the movie that's going to kick off the era where his kid plays one of the bigger roles in every movie he does from now on.

He's also just had a Buckaroo Banzai TV series picked up.
I dunno, but I think Kev would benefit from laying off the ganja a bit.

Clerks 2 is my second favorite Smith movie (after Dogma). Especially since my name's in the credits.

I'm a huge 90s KS fan, but... Yoga Hosers looks like one of the biggest pieces of cinematic sh*t I've ever seen. Mallrats being split into a mini series worries me. They had the whole cast onboard to return and now we're talking about an entirely different commitment. On one hand I can see this being a totally awesome deal on Netflix, but I can just as easily see this turn into a mini series staring his daughter and only featuring the characters we really want to see.
We'll see how this goes. I definitely think Kevin Smith needs to stop smoking weed. Aside from his episode of Flash, it's kind of starting to feel like he peaked at Clerks II. He's just not the same guy with his writing, specifically in his dialogue, and shoehorning his daughter into these bizarre weed fantasy flicks isn't going to do him any favors.
So much of his fanbase is built on nostalgia and he really needs to pump out something like Mallrats 2 or Clerks 3 every once in awhile and have it actually be good. I hope that ends up being the case with both Mallbrats and Clerks 3. Mallrats and Dogma are two of my very favorite movies of all time and Clerks and Chasing Amy aren't that far behind really either. I want him to be great again.

Mallrats is one of my favourite movies of all time, so I hope this series is good, at the very least.

Like when he crammed his wife into J&SB when she clearly didn't belong. As someone who was a big fan of Clerks and Mallrats and Dogma, Kevin Smith at this point has just as many movies I dislike as ones I do. Yoga Hosers is going to push the scales in favor of more I don't like. Also he has kind of become a bit insufferable to listen to at times as well.

It's the same reason I've never been able to take Rob Zombie serious. He puts his wife in absolutely everything in a big role. She was good in Devil's Rejects but I'm tired of the idea of putting her in his films just to give her work. I am ok with family being cast in roles such as what Smith gave his wife in Clerks II. But I don't want him to star sticking them in lead roles. Then again he's always kind of leaned that way with having his girlfriend (at the time) with Chasing Amy. But at least she was a decent enough actress.
