I just watched the Hogan/Sting finish again this morning and it was clear as day that Hogan in terms of kayfabe got screwed.
Bischoff in his book says the finish was supposed to be a fast count leading to the restart of the match. But the footage clearly shows that Nick Patrick made a normal count and Sting was clearly counted out for the 3 count.
We all know what happened in Montreal.
So in your opinion, what was the biggest screwjob of 1997?

Bret "Hitman" Clarke was bigger.

Bret "Hitman" Clarke was bigger. not to mention it was real. Hogan's was just a screwjob in the respect of a botch in the match, and he was still losing the Title either way. Bret was told it would be a DQ finish and he could vacate the Championship the next night, and they called a submission to take it from him.

Its so strange.....Bret's screwjob inadvertently created the Mr McMahon character....which in tandem with the Austin character would put WWF back in the game and over the top.
Stings return was hot as hell......and the events at Starrcade ruined it. They then repeatedly botched every chance they had to fix it.....

Bret "Hitman" Clarke was bigger. I don't want to derail this thread as it is an interesting concept but I had to take a moment to show appreciation for this comment. I to this day (not sure what that says about me I still remember when Michael Buffer called him that and I still laugh about it. When I read it here I was legit laughing out loud at my computer screen. Thank you.

Definitely Montreal although Starrcade 97 was a desaster as well.
