I just found the 4th appearance of iron man for $1 at a thrift store.
I'm not huge iron man fan, anyone know if it's worth anything?

1st Apperance is money.
If you found Tales of Suspence #42, which is his 4th appearance, than its worth about $100-$120. Great score!

My advice? If it's a 10¢ or 12¢ comic from DC, Marvel, or EC, and it is cheap and not rat chewed, then get it. EC is money. Pre-code horror has always been valuable but it is all-time hot right now. Random DC and Marvel horror will fetch decent to great prices.
Bronze age books (mostly in the range of 15¢ to 50¢) are very hit and miss but can be profitable if you know what you are looking for. Bronze books are picking up steam and many stores, dealers, and flea market guys are unaware. Many things sell above guide in Bronze. I only buy to read personally, but I see nothing wrong with flipping old books. To my point with bronze, I am working on a run of Ms. Marvel. The first volume only contained one valuable issue originally, the #16 which was first appearance of Mystique. I was able to score a VG+ copy of Ms. Marvel #1 for a dollar. Now it is a $40 book generally in that grade. Silver is becoming astronomically overpriced, bronze keys are becoming a market focus. Marvel had many new characters appear in the bronze age and the movie studio is strip-mining these books for new ideas. Another one with a spike in price was Avengers #257 which features the first appearance of Nebula. That was a dollar book pre-Guardians and about a $20 book post. Smaller profit margin but it adds up.
So do a little research and you'd be surprised what you can do. That was definitely a great score on 4th appearance Iron Man.
